25th Hour (2002)
Where did this script come from?
After reading the book, I was very pleased that David Benioff was
taking on the screenplay. Now that I've seen the film, I'm incredibly
disappointed in the approach Benioff took. The book is about half
present-day and half flash-back. The flash-backs were my favorite
part of the book because they allowed us to identify even more with
Monty. There are about two flashblacks in the movie. I don't blame
people who are seeing the movie and wondering how they are
supposed to identify with Monty - in the film, he is really just
another drug dealer, albeit a nice guy. The film leaves out so
much, I still find it hard to believe Benioff wrote the screenplay. I
would love to hear to some opinions of those who have read the
book and then seen the movie.
The Crying Game (1992)
An amazing film
The less you know about this film, the better. I won't tell you anything except what a well-written and well-acted movie this is. from the first 15 minutes, which is mainly dialogue between two actors, you are completely drawn in to the film, which has almost dream-like qualities.
If you were planning to see it just because of the "twist" and to see what everyone was talking about, then see it. If you were planning to see it for the amazing script, acting and direction - see it. And if you were planning on not seeing it - see it
Taxi Driver (1976)
A model for filmmakers
One of the most unnerving and realistic portrayals of the disturbed mind ever filmed, This masterpiece by Martin Scorcese deals with the inhumane lonleiness people such as Travis Bickle suffer. From the opening, rain-drenched montage of the Big Apple at night, you know this is an oscar-caliber film. Why it didn't win more awards is beyond me. This film will change the way you view society. See it. Learn from it
A Clockwork Orange (1971)
What an amazing film
Not one other film in the 70's demanded so much from its audience. Often thought to be a violent exploitation film, A CLOCKWORK ORANGE is perfection in film-making. It contains not only an important message, but warned our nation and other nations of the future it would be facing, a future of violence and mayhem, and it did not cause many of the violent events, it predicted
