How could you not like this movie?
9 January 2022
This movie made me completely forget my problems for 2 hours. It is simply action packed! And Dwayne Johnson is superb! He's a natural. From start to finish, I couldn't take my mind off it.

That was Great.

I don't understand what people missed but that was a rated 10 sci-fi!

Don't let some of the lower reviews prevent you from watching this film.

You will regret missing it.

I Don't Understand These Reviews
16 March 2021
This only got a 5.6 rating? I can't stop laughing. I am a 61 year old fuddy duddy but my eyes tear up in each scene. I guess if you're not from the 70s and 80s that you might not understand lots of this but a 5.6 rating doesn't do this movie justice!

This is a must see movie
20 April 2008
I read some of the comments including the one from the user named "AlecBaldwin". He left early because of graphics and too many myths. Another didn't like it because the English was hard to understand. Another said it was a kids movie and Chan/Li were out for the dollars only. I'll tell you that I went to the movie theater and sat back and let the movie go wherever it wanted. I was intending on enjoying it and I downright did. It is a great graphical movie with fantastic choreography and editing, and an acting masterpiece, as well as action packed. If you go into the movie theater and take the negative comments with you, you will not like it. You need to understand that this is a rare appearance by two masters who will probably never get together again. As for the English, don't fret on that. I have a lot of trouble with these kinds of movies. This was the ONLY one where I could understand the English. It's simple. Go to the movie with popcorn and soda in hand and an open mind. Get ready for some fast action and a good story line. And finally, ENJOY!

I can relate to this.....
14 October 2007
This movie goes hand-in-hand with 3 O'Clock High (both made in 1987). Both movies got 1 star and were hated by the critics but we all loved them back then and still love them right now. The dance scene (Dream about me) was fantastic. Kim Cattrall is so absolutely fantastically beautiful. I could live forever with a girl smiling at me who looks like her. The background music is on key and correct, and easy to listen to. An early James Spader (Mr. Richards) does a great job as a baddie. G.W. Bailey is his usual corny funny self and is very nicely accompanied by his dog, Rambo. They actually use the dog almost as good as the one in Men in Black.

This movie is a MUST SEE. As many writers in this column have said, this does have a "feel good" ending. I don't think Roxie is THAT good looking. She's nice looking. Actually, she looks like the gal in the sitcom called King of Queens. I wonder if there is any relation. Roxie's foreign boyfriend is actually quite funny.

As unrealistic as this movie might seem, I think both men and women have had a fantasy of this kind. This is a movie all viewers can relate to. It's great! Lastly, GREAT LEGS Kim!

Groundhog Day (1993)
Not really in Punxutawney
16 December 2006
Warning: Spoilers
This should have been put in the goofs arena. I tried to find a place to enter this in the goofs section, but could not find it. When the news crew are standing around Groundhog Phil's rising station at Gobbler's Knob, you can see 4 or 5-story buildings behind Phil Connors, and once again behind Rita. I just went to visit Gobbler's Knob. There are no buildings of any significant size at the site -- just one park ranger station. It's mainly woods there. I would have thought that, while filmed in Illinois, the production crew would have at least taken a stroll through Gobbler's Knob in Pennsylvania before they started filming. They could have simply found some woodsy area in Illinois to film the groundhog shots. I took photos of the actual site that show all of this. Too bad I can't submit them for the readers to see. It's actually a very serene place there.

Weird movie, but a good one to see
22 November 2005
I caught this movie purely by accident just last night. It was great. I was in awe from start to finish -- similarly to Pulp Fiction.

I would rate this movie to just that -- Pulp Fiction. The film making and cinematography were the same. I was mesmerized throughout the entire movie. I still don't know who that beautiful blond was. She was great! All I can say is that this was a great movie.

Once again, this weird WEB site wants me to make sure I add 10 lines. I've never heard of that before. I just wanted to say that this was a good movie. I don't need 10 lines to say that. So I'm filling in.

This is a must if and when it comes out on DVD.

Thanks.

Best Movie of the 80's
29 July 2005
I just watched this movie again. I'm completely awe struck. This 1-start movie is the best movie made from the 1980's. There is not one dull moment. I give it a 10 for its film-making and song selection. Fantastic shots and fade-in/outs. I hope Mr. Spielberg looks at the WEB for comments on this film. He missed out on a good thing. Him backing out must have been political.

If you are looking to see this film for free, you will need Comcast. Go to Encore movies in the premium subscription menu. Yes, you will need a premium subscription. I can't find this movie in any store, but I'm sure it can be found on the Internet.

A Band Lover's Movie
4 January 2005
After seeing this movie, I am speechless. I have goosebumps all over my body -- especially after the final competition.

Since I was a member of a very large high school band, I can appreciate this flick. If you have never been to a weekend high school football game and saw the band play, yes -- you may not like this movie. Well, I was part of everything regarding bands and sports -- high school and college. So if you have any appreciation for high school or college bands, you should watch this movie. There is also very good cinematography here too. Some of the scenes -- and especially the final Drumline scene were great. There is even a decent plot to this movie.

I see the low rating of 5.3 and I'm a bit miffed about that; however, that might be because of the people who have no appreciation of real band and music material. I'm not knocking those people, but maybe they would rather watch Johnny Knoxsville in Jackass; than see this movie.

This is a great movie. Please give this movie a chance. It's really worth the time. Every time I see that it is on, I drop everything, and tune in to see it all over again.

This commentary is in tribute to Bernhardt Rydjeski, Director of the East Islip High School Marching Band. I don't think he's alive anymore, but I did keep in touch with him until about 5 years ago. Thanks Mr. Rydjeski for the greatest years of our lives -- I really mean that.

=============================================================

It is now February 28TH, 2005 and I just found out that my friend, Mr. Rydjeski died just last week. He had cancer and was buried in the St. James Cemetery on Long Island. I am so upset about this. I love this man. He was an inspiration to many of us in the East Islip High School band. There were several of us who went on to stardom, in particular, Ron Wikso, who played with Cher for many years. There was also Cathy Tricoli who had a hit single for her efforts. Mr. Rydjeski, we loved you as our band leader and we will miss you intensely. Thank you for all that you have given to us. You gave up many hours of your life so we could have a life of our own. You are a great person and we will never forget you. I truly hope that my prior band members see this message and respond back. We had the greatest times of our lives with you! Rydjeski, Canis, and Gifford. Go EI HIGH! Mr. Rydjeski, we will miss you.

Pretty Good!
28 November 2004
I'm not a "seeker" of Adam Sandler movies but whenver I see them, I'm pleasantly surprised. This one was pretty good. I'm a fan of hockey -- not one of golf; however knowing that probably made the movie better for me. A golf fan might have found many faults with the movie. Not knowing golf made the movie better for me.

Watching (and hearing) the soaring golf balls made me laugh every time. It reminded me of Herman Munster hitting the baseball and beaning Leo Durocher 4 blocks away. The first time I ever saw Herman do that, I was rolling on the floor for several minutes. This movie reminded me of that and I was once again on the floor when Adam Sandler did it with the golf ball. By the way, Herman had me on the floor again when he kicked a football several miles away.

I just saw that the movie will be on TV next week (I think TNT or TBS). I truly hope that they do not cut out too much.

This was a very pleasant movie and I suggest you watch it with a youngster -- say a 12 year old. They will love it!

This is one of the best movies I have ever seen!!!
17 October 2004
This movie is on in 10 minutes and I'm so excited. What a flick! Funny! Well written! What a charmer! Forget the baseball playoffs and Sunday football. I'm watching this movie again. I must have seen this movie 6 or 7 times now and I can't wait till it starts again. I've not checked for a DVD version yet. Maybe someone can tell me if it is on DVD. It will be my favorite disc. Hopefully, the add-ons will be good. Once again, I must provide 10 lines before this will get published. I still don't know why. So I will add fillers again. I loved Andre the Giant! He was great. Too bad he passed away. The Spanish guy was also great. I can't remember his name, but he was fantastic. Funny! Funny! Funny! This is a great movie. It's movie time! Bye.

Actually quite good!
4 February 2003
I don't understand the trashing comments I just read. This film is very, very good. I've seen it at least 5 or 6 times and it was enjoyable the first and last time I saw it. The film making was superb. I actually did some research to see where that cottage was located and see if there were any rentals.

I saw no character flaws in anyone. Each character was precise and very believable. Continuity errors were at a minimum. I also don't understand the rating this movie got. It was NOT THAT BAD! If there was poor acting, or plots, or errors then I could see trashing the movie. But really!

Even the musical score was perfect for each scene. A mixture of real classical and real rock. The music score designer deserves an 'A'.

Best parts: 1) Beethoven's nose in the beginning, followed by his dream sequence. 2) Anything Regina did. She was perfect! 3) Grodin trying to explain where babies come from. 3) The bully sequence at the fair (bite this guy in the weiner!) 4) The hamburger eating contest. 5) The tree stump scene with Penn. 6) Finally, all of the grunting noises Beethoven made. I can actually imitate each one. My kids love it when I do that.

Come on people. The movie was really enjoyable with quality Hollywood direction and design. Please stop knocking it. Give it another try. Or next time, try watching it with a child. You'll see.

What a Cast!
3 December 1999
Mel Gibson, Anthony Hopkins, Daniel Day-Lewis, Laurence Olivier, Liam Neeson, Bernard Hill....and the list goes on as you can see. Where are these people now? All making big hit movies. You can't help but love this movie. Every time I see it, I want to see it again. I know of no other movie that has had an impact like THAT on me before. Every actor in the movie was great. Also, notice that the mass of extras REALLY act like the real thing. That is rare, and hard to do. I was an extra in Sudden Death (Van Damme), and you can't help but look into the camera or do weird things. It's fun. Try an find some of the continuity errors in this movie. They're hard to find, VERY. I only found a few after seeing the movie 10-15 times. It's almost flawless. The scenery was breathtaking. I only regret not seeing the movie on the "big screen". I gave this movie 10+ points. There is nothing like it (obviously, my opinion). I thought it was one of Neeson's greatest roles, especially the beginning where "Quintal is in his seat". That scene was shot beautifully. Gibson's girlfriend is quite gorgeous. It's no wonder why he did what he did (now I'm getting to the movie again)... Enjoy!
