Kingdom Hearts (2002)
Awesome Game!
This game actually gets you hooked from the start. I've never played a Final Fantasy game so I'm unfamiliar with its game play, but Kingdom Hearts stands up to my playing standards. It has a good story, plenty of puzzles, mini games, great graphics and hidden extras. Not to mention a great sound track and good voice acting. It has tremendous replay value and was definitely worth the $50. It took my wife and I 60+ hours to complete, and we didn't even scratch the surface the first time around! It's also a great game you can play in front of children and they'll get a kick out of all of the Disney characters you interact with in the game (our 2 year old loves it!)
Jûbei-chan Lovely gantai no himitsu (1999)
Viewable if not too painful at times
I just watch the first 4 episodes of this series and found in enjoyable. The charters are okay, the jokes are not he funniest, but I did find myself chuckling a few times. There is a running fixation on the main character's breasts, which gets old REALLY fast. Not to mention that she is supposed to be a Jr. High student. The English voice acting is down right dreadful at times, but it's very rare that you ever get an Anime that's dubbed well. That aside, if you enjoy the type of Japanese humor found in animes like Ramna ½ or Slamdunk! you'll find this enjoyable.
Dumbarton Bridge (1999)
disappointed
Growing up in this part of the country, I was looking forward to a good film, but I was left feeling disappointed. The story was mediocre to say the least. I really tried to like it, but I just couldn't. The low budget-ness of the film really was saddening to me. This area of the Bay is truly mixed and I grew up with people who shared similar stories and any of them would have made a very good independent film. I wont delve too deep into the film because the previous review hit the nail on the head. It was a valiant attempt to tell a story, but taken the history of the area and the characters portrayed in the film, a better setting would have been Oakland or Richmond, CA. Too bad.
Romeo Must Die (2000)
Almost as good as "The Matrix".
I admit, I was very skeptical going into see this film, but I was very surprised at how much I enjoyed it. The story line reminded me of several other films I've seen but was blended together very well into one film. It kept my insterest and the fighting sequences... excellent! I'm somewhat of an old Kung-Fu and Anime movie buff and the elements used in this film carry over very well. It was not until after I saw the film I learnt the producer and co-producer of "The Matrix" had a hand in the making of this film. The live "Anime" effects and "Hong Kong" style of fighting were something that amazed me in that movie and they worked very, very well in this film. I'm looking forward to what I believe is the soon-to-be standard in action films to come. "Romeo Must Die" will be a great addition to my DVD collection!
