Kill Me Later (2001)
Very nice...
Honestly, the only think I can fault are the direction and editing, which can be a little too "I'm try to be arty, look at me!". The movie itself is wonderful: serious, funny, romantic. The script is sharp and the actors were absolutely wonderful. Highly recommended for anyone in the mood for something strange.
Be warned: You will see definite ripping off of "A Life Less Ordinary" toward the beginning of the film... but if you're gonna steal, it's good to know they stole from something good.
When Love Comes (1998)
Interesting film, wonderful cast
While I'm generally at all in favor of any film that could be considered artistic, I genuinely enjoyed this one. All of the cast (okay, Eddie didn't grab me... but he also didn't really *do* or *say* anything) was brilliant. The dialogue was fun, the acting was top-notch. Even when the story faltered (and it did drag a couple of times), I feel that the people involved more than made up for it. The only actor I knew going into the piece was Dean O'Gorman, and I was pleased and impressed with his performance. Definitely nice to see him doing something serious (my first exposure being from Young Hercules). I highly recommend the film to anybody in the mood for something a bit unusual and a little slower-paced.
Glitter (2001)
Lame... but...
Yes, it was a crappy movie. Oh, come on, we all knew that already!
But...
Max Beesley is amazing. Yes, his accent faltered a couple of times, but I've never been one to whine too much about something like that. His acting was wonderful, passionate. It isn't his fault he was co-starring with Mariah Carey, who seemed to possess all the charisma of a doorknob. She wasn't as bad as I expected, but it was still rather painful.
Hopefully she won't make anymore movies. Hopefully Max will begin to get the recognition he deserves.
Someone Like You... (2001)
Funny, Sweet, and Entertaining
I'm not big on romantic flicks. Most of them are too sappy and not particularly interesting... but this one is. Even parts that would've run sickeningly sweet and completely stupid in any other situation seemed plausible, and the acting was top-notch on all fronts. *Everyone*, no matter how small the part, did a great job. Ashley Judd was cute and likeable, Hugh Jackman was gorgeous and funny, Greg Kinnear was perfectly cast for his role (I realize it's a predictable story, but I still won't say more about it). If you want to come out of the theater grinning like an idiot, this is the flick to see. Or if you're just looking to make your girlfriend *very* happy.
