Gilda (1946)

Rita Hayworth is Dazzling!
23 January 2006
Gilda is a stunning movie mostly because of Rita and it is a signature movie from Hollywoods Golden Age. A true example of what film is capable of expressing when done correctly, Rita literally sparkles on screen. When she sings Put the blame on Mame and glides across Johnny Farrell's stage to show him he can't push her around she is like a glittering diamond!

The sexual tension between Johnny and Gilda is ever present and after watching this movie a person will never use the word "hate" in the same way ever again.

I think she should have been nominated for an Oscar because her performance is perfectly synchronized to her characters motivations.

King Kong (2005)

Mesmerizing!
19 December 2005
This version was everything I hoped Peter Jackson would create and I think it might be better than the previous King Kong movies.

Visually stunning and filled at times with touching romance that at some points in the film it brought me to tears and I rarely cry at movies. I read one review where a critic described the film as not having any "soul". I strongly disagree. Not only does this beautifully crafted movie have soul it contains all the excitement, romance, and story that any movie fan could ask for! Peter Jackson will prove to be one of the greatest directors of this new century! And I advise that people hold onto themselves at the end of the movie because it is powerfully tragic.

The Women (1939)
A fabulous fun movie!
14 June 2002
This movie is two wonderful hours of gossipy, clever fun. The script is incredibly good and makes you wish every movie in the world could turn out as well as THE WOMEN. The performances all blend together perfectly, which is what you need if you are going to tell a story like this. Joan Crawford is sublime as the husband stealer and Norma Shearer plays the usual virtuous kind of part she always played in her career. However in my opinion, Roz Russell, who played Mrs. Fowler simply is at her best. It is one of the most funny and exquisite performances that i have ever seen given by an actress on film. It is plain to see she only cares about herself and her own superficial motives but you cant help being on her side and enjoying all the trouble she stirs up. And also Paulette Goddard gave a sassy performance as the sarcastic woman who has seen it all and wants no more of it. The best scene of hers is when she and Mrs. Fowler fight at the divorce ranch. I loved this movie!

Designing Women (1986–1993)
HORRIBLE SHOW
20 May 2000
Designing women is such a bad show.when it first started the earlier episodes were decent, with ok plots and a little humor but as the show progressed it just became annoying to watch. first of all the four women do nothing but spend all their time whining about their lives and once and a while they will throw in a sarcastic comment to make it seem like comedy. well it isnt. and when they brought in jan hooks and those two other ladies it went from bad to worse. i think what made this show stupid was the fact that it was billed as a comedy but it wasnt funny. all the women did was talk about their problems and we were supposed to laugh? the episodes like suzanne losing her money or julia's son going out with an older woman are good examples. they had the story but no humor in it. i dont even think those actresses knew how to be funny. if this type of show is what you are looking for then watch THE GOLDEN GIRLS instead of DW. it is a similar plotted show of four women friends but it has laughs and charm.

Exciting story
9 April 2000
I watched this tv movie a couple years ago and i havent seen it since then and unfortunately its not available on video. The movie is about a beautiful girl who goes after her roomates boyfriend and ruins a few lives along the way. However the way Jamie Luner plays her role you actually begin to root for her even when she's malicious. The setting is in the 1950s but looks so modern and cool. This is the perfect movie to watch on a hot summer day with a friend!

incredible piece of film
1 April 2000
I saw the tom crown affair because im such a fan of dunaway and mcqueen. The film is fast paced but detailed and at times full of exquisite cinematography(the chess game kiss!. However,to be honest when i first heard of the film I expected the plot line to be stronger and the scenes more meaningful and even though the film is not slow some moments are extremely bland and i think so much more could have been done with the plotline. But otherwise it is still a classic and Paul Burke's performance as a sarcastic detective makes it all the more enjoyable
