A mixed experience, subpar overall

When i watched the pilot of this show i thought "wow this has got potential" and i've watched every episode of the first 2 seasons now. However, the potential never got fulfilled and not a single episode since the pilot has been great like the pilot. At it's best it's got moments but at its worst.... it's unbearable.

More than anything what has worn me out are the 2 main characters Pete and Myka. Why do they have to act like immature teenagers when they are in fact grown-ups? This style works for Artie and Claudia, Claudia especially because she IS a teenager and Artie because it just somehow fits him and fits the humorous part of his character. With Pete and Myka doing the same thing it becomes boring. The characters lack contrast and dynamics because of it. You know what they are going to say and do before they've done it. The random attempts to build more depth into the characters is prevented by this failed attempt at comedy and also by writing what feels like random back stories and story lines for them. The stories point in any and every direction and doesn't generally seem to fit anywhere or have much consequence.

Personally i love long, involving story arcs that slowly develops characters and mythology of the show. This show does seem to attempt it but it never becomes interesting. Again the writing seems very random. I don't think the writers had any idea where they were going with anything from the beginning.

I do want to say something positive. Claudia is actually pretty great as the slightly insecure teenager with some baggage. I just wish all the other characters weren't trying to copy her. Artie is great as well although i'm disappointed by the lack of back story on his part. Surely there must be something there but in 2 seasons now not much has been revealed.

All in all i think the show has quickly become a parody on itself and the greatest mystery of it is how in the world it obtained a 7.8 rating here at IMDb.

Simply great!

I love this movie and i expect it to be one of those i will watch again now and then.

Solid performances all over, good lines, lots of laughs, naked women. I enjoyed every minute of it. I'm impressed that a movie like this can come out of virtually nothing. It all starts with a fake movie trailer and an idea of something that everyone's seen before. Tough guy's revenge against the villain who took away X's life. Blahblahblah. But the end result here is just brilliant.

Having said all that there is 1 thing i think could have been done better. Trejos character is pretty much a monkey with few lines and generally portrayed as a bit dumb. I can't help thinking he could have pulled off a slightly more interesting character. I totally realize he's supposed to be old school muscles and pulls that off well, but it's like they thought "hey this is going to be cheese with cheese on so don't bother".

That is not to say he's bad, I just can't help thinking there was a bit of potential that went unexplored.

Nonetheless a must-see!

Interesting but poor ending

First i want to say this is NOT a horror movie. It's a sci-fi drama that tries fairly well also to be a thriller. Without getting really scary in my opinion. But that's fine because it's not supposed to be. Or is it?

It starts out really well. Brody and Polley are both great and everything builds up nicely. The story is clever enough to inspire questions about cloning, bioscience, patenting. But that quality fades soon enough and sure enough there is a cheesy, boring ending. The movie switches from being a sci-fi drama thriller to being just a thriller (or horror?) but fails and simply destroys the good buildup.

It manages so well to be a good and interesting drama the first hour and 25 minutes that its hard to forgive the turn it takes near the end.

There are many good things about this movie. The CGI is good and following Dren from her birth and throughout the movie is interesting although also seems a bit distanced. Brody, as already said, is excellent and probably what i will remember best from this movie. All in all it's definitely worth a watch but also one that will be soon forgotten. Unfortunately.

Not recommendable

While i enjoyed the first Bloodrayne i think this sequel falls through completely. Every flaw of the first one is repeated here and made worse.

Every bit of dialogue seems "out of sync" with what the movie is supposed to be. It simply takes away any chance of building intensity. The script is thinner than the paper it was written on. Cinematography is absolute crap, i'm guessing it suffers from low budget but definitely also from lack of vision. It does seem to want to recreate the feeling from certain old Sergio Leone western classics but fails so miserably at that and to the point where i can understand if some individuals would take offense. Throughout the movie every sequence is so slow paced it feels like the movie is made in slow motion. A proper director's cut would last 30 minutes at best.

Strangely i feel that the score actually works. It's like its supposed to be even if the movie isn't.

Most of the acting is poor but i think it's mainly due to bad script and bad dialogue. No actor in the world would be able to make a difference here. Unlike others i find the Billy the Kid character to work out fine, in fact both him and his crew manages to be nasty and unlikable like they should be. I find it hard to say much about Natassia Malthe because the script really doesn't produce sequences where she or anyone else would be allowed to shine much. There are a few scenes where she shows she could probably do it if she had something to work with.

All in all not THE worst movie i've ever seen - but it comes close.

Not great but also underrated

I actually watched this movie because i had to find out if the movie was as bad as many reviews claim. And i have to say i don't think it is.

Sure it's average to below average in most ways. Much of the dialogue is dull and uninspired. The script and screenplay mostly doesn't allow for the actors to unfold, to display their skills. The battle sequences are boring. And who the h... put that silly wig on Ben Kingsley, the guy is seriously a joke in this movie.

But there are also stuff that works - or works well enough for it to be a decent B-movie i should say. Kristanna Loken pulls it off the best she can with this script and manages to portray a slightly more vulnerable and down to earth type vampire hero. I think she also does well in her fight scenes. Michael Madsen although having nothing to work with looks good as a vampire hunter. Michelle Rodriguez is doing a good job as well.

The sound and score of the movie is also good and here and there actually manages to help build a little tension or suspense. Something that the movie often lacks.

I'll admit any day that it's a flawed movie. Still there have been many big Hollywood production movies that are less worth watching than this.
