Fantastic nuclear war telling...
29 April 2000
"Threads" may seem like just another one in the long list of World War III movies, but this one is in a class all by itself. This BBC film makes "The Day After", and "Testament" look like an ABC Afterschool Special. By far, this is the most shocking, powerful, and awesome film I have ever seen regarding the subject of nuclear holocaust. True to the science of a nuclear disaster on a global level, "Threads" pulls no punches, but delivers a hard-hitting look at the consequences of using nuclear weapons as a last resort, and the effects it has on those so unlucky to survive in the grisly aftermath. The overall premise and reality of the film hits you like one of the warheads in the film. The scenes of the human race dying off to a slow death by radiation, are beyond harrowing. And in my opinion, I think that this is a "must-see" for anyone that wants to see the effects of nuclear warfare, and the reason it is useless in war, except but to kill everyone on the planet. Definitely a 5-star film that is not worth passing up. Rent it!!!

Resident Evil (1996 Video Game)

A true gem...
22 April 2000
For those of you that loved watching "Dawn of the Dead" or "Night of the Living Dead", this video game is right up your alley. I had heard the hype surrounding this game and I was reluctant to purchase it. Now, I think that buying it was the best move I ever made. A truly scary game, with a great premise, and the storyline just absorbs you. Although, some may see "Resident Evil" as a slight take-off of "Alone in the Dark", this game really puts itself in its own class. And the nice thing about it all is that the zombie genre has transferred itself nicely into the video game forum, with great success. And the idea of the government using a pharmacutical company to hide their biological weapons, is quite realistic, and a fresh idea. Definitely, a 5-star game. Get it!!!

Do you wanna party!!!...
4 March 2000
Dan O'Bannon really outdid himself on this film. I loved every aspect of this film, including the block-rocking soundtrack, which made this film such a winner when I seen it in the theatre. We have a group of people who accidently crack open a drum belonging to the Military, containing a hazardous chemical, which reanimates the dead. Then the fun starts! We have one mishap after another, until we meet a group of punk rockers that happen to wanna party at the local graveyard. The occupants of the graveyard seem to wanna have some gory fun as well. I definitely agree that this film has held up against anything that George Romero has done yet, and is one of the top zombie films in the vast genre of the undead. This movie was meant for a large group, looking to have lots of fun, and get really scared. My recommendation: Turn the lights off, the volume way up, and enjoy!!!

Hell Night (1981)

Worth a peek....
22 March 1999
Linda Blair finds herself in a mess when she is initiated into the Alpha Sigma Rho fraternity by staying the night in the creepy Garth mansion. I agree that this film is very underrated. Good plot, good pace, and good effects. The house itself was a real spooker also. I loved it, it's perfect for a boring weekend, and I'd watch it again. Try it out!

A wonderful sleeper...
21 March 1999
This Canadian slasher is quite the sleeper in a genre full of hockey-masked summer camp killers, and babysitter stalkers. Then we have the quiet, eerie "Curtains". For years I have been telling others about this film and yet not many remember it, or heard about it. But when told of the story, most end up seeing it, and loving it. The plot is not all that great, but it is a change from the norm. And one big plus I liked about this film was here is a slasher film that deals with almost all women, even the killer, an idea that doesn't always happen in this type of movie.

The cinematography of this film is spectacular, the setting is somewhere I'd hate to be alone, and the atmosphere is quite chilling, which sets the stage for an outstandingly creepy witch-masked killer to get down to business with a good selection of weapons. John Vernon and Samantha Eggar are great as director and star of an upcoming movie. I only hope that in the future there will be a sequel to this gem to introduce new viewers to this frightful, severely underrated, movie. Rent it!

Terror Train (1980)

A true ride to terror
21 March 1999
This is perhaps the best slasher film made during the decade of the 80's. I had the good fortune of seeing this film on Halloween night with a group of friends, and it did not disappoint. Jaime Lee Curtis was her usual spectacular self, and the direction of Roger Spottiswoode kept this film moving at about the same speed as the train itself. Another great thing about "Terror Train" is that it relies on true suspense and good performances for its thrills, not the excessive gore and blood that has hindered most of the slashers of this sort. Give it a peek!
