The French will be thankfull, or not
28 February 2022
Warning: Spoilers
The movie is not bad. Some languishing, the characters a bit boring, decent CGI, low on surprises (but there is at least one), little else. I liked that it wanted to show the war for what it is... a slaughterhouse, though for that there are better films like 1917.

I'll conclude by stating my doubts about whether the French will be grateful or angry that they have nothing to do in this alternate history.

Hopes and fears in the spectrum
25 September 2021
This series is a box of surprises. This is much more than a documentary about everyone's legitimate aspiration to find love. Each chapter is a lesson in humility. Here, everyone suffers, enjoys, rejoices, fears, laughs and cries: the extraordinary main characters, their friends and relatives, and us television viewers. If we are not moved, there is no solution, but I doubt it.

Wonderful
17 August 2020
I don't like normally reality shows. But having a son in the spectrum I told myself, let's give it a try. I was heartwarming, inspiring, hopefull, not cheesy or nothing. All this beautiful persons so different one from another like we neurotipicals are. I have hope for them as I have hope for my kid.

Short and painfull
27 December 2019
Story: boring, no suprises, a lot of 'déjà vu', predictable, "constructed". Ah... the Emperor is back by the way. CGI: ok... but too much Characters: what characters?

All in all this movie bored me. Sad ending for this trilogy.

Bad joke
4 May 2012
After ten minutes I began to tell myself... this can't be it. I continued watching... it was it. A bad joke, a nightmare, rubbish. You know the constant sensation and the feeling that something is really wrong... I don't have that often with films... but this one managed. How I managed not to break it off and leave it be is something I still can't explain.

From the first to the last dialog... nonsense, flat, cheese, even stupid, not funny at all, even when they searched fun. The characters... why bother to play? How it is possible, that good actors make such movies will always astonish me. The story... there are probably a lot of teenagers writing better stories. An accumulation of stereotypes. Blacks are cool, fun, indisciplined, all buds, unbreakable, superheroes. The white pilots are mean, racists. The Germans are just the incarnation of robotic evil... or something like that. Realism... no way! Nothing was believable... nor the actions, nor the acting...

Lamentably it is not a film to forget easily... horrid films seldom are... because you are constantly reminded how stupid you were to have made the mistakes of believing it was something to see and then actually watching it till the end.

Better than expected and U2
25 October 2009
It's simple. It's a very good movie. Not fantastic but wery good. The plot is not really new. A guy who gambles with money that doesn't belong to him and looses it to the mob. To survive he has to achieve an impossible task. Retrieve the money in 7 days and to organize a U2 concert. His probable executioner, being a big U2 fan, helps him in this task. A new uncommon friendship? You feel nostalgia, drama, humor, love etc. all over the scenes and places. Cinematography is nice, music fantastic, the characters, belonging to different worlds, make it very short-wile listening to them... I had a good time, time passed, the finale as U2 fan just fantastic.

Romance in Berlin
12 February 2008
This is once again typical German big city-curious characters romance story. Til Schweiger plays Ludo Dekker a libertine who is condemned to make 600 hours of social work in a children's home. There works Anna (Nora Tschirner). In their childhood Dekker was terrible to Anna. So far the starting constellation. But it's a comedy with happy ending. The beauty of such films is to observe the slight variations from one story to another and how the extravagant figures come along and end up together to make the perfect match. I understand that it's a very special kind of humor that doesn't suite everybody. Nevertheless I liked this big city story very much. Funy slapstick situations, nice dialogs, sweet plot, wonderful characters, good acting, and splendid Berlin as a fantastic supporting actor.

Wonderful depiction of human beings
22 January 2008
Friends told me it was a good and violent movie. It's not just a good movie, it's a wonderful one. And apart from the sporadic and "really" violent sequences (assasinations, rape) the calm moments are as precious. Seen from outside we will never comprehend all the aspects of organized crime. All the values, all the rites, all the violence, all the unwritten laws, all the logic who goes beyond the criminal activity itself. Good for us there are writers, actors, directors who tell us some of these aspects. The story is not the most important thing here. It's the carrier for the depiction of the characters. I loved the acting. All of them. The mysterious Nikolai (Mortensen) with his enigmatic look of sadness. The chaotic and somehow crazy Kiril (Cassel), always searching for his fathers recognition and suffering like a child for that. The "grandpa" Semyon (Müller-Stahl), being the goodhearted, comprehending helper in one moment and the next the ruthless, not caring "cancer" of the society. The splendid Anna (Watts) so confused and innocent but still willing to enter the world of crime and violence and risking it all for wanting to do the "right" thing. All characters have fears. All these fears are so different but the same as well. You see them written in their faces during the whole film. Time flies bye... but you need some guts to see this unveiled world which Cronenberg is showing us here.

Good, complex plot
9 April 2007
I've seen this movie and Mamet hasn't disappointed me. The story is full of twists and surprises like life itself. Once you seem to recognize who the bad guys are, be assured there is still more behind this complex but not unfolowable plot. The characters are completely believable: their motivations, their becoming... Very surprised was I about Val Kilmer: he is the multi-talent fighter from which this film carries the name. He becomes this Hellenic warrior (the best warriors of all times). Hard and ruthless once he has taken a mission to accomplish. Very emotionally in between. What else to say. I enjoyed it and I think it deserves a much better vote than the average posted.
