Anna and the King (1999)
The King & I without songs
The film is, as expected, 'The King & I' without songs. Chow Yun Fat is very endearing as the King of Siam, in his best US role to date, following from the John Woo clones he's been starring in recently. Jodie Foster's accent, is very hard to accept, and constantly distracts from the story. Many familiar elements from the famous musical are in this movie, which will make the film seem unecessary to many viewers. But I was in a good mood when I saw it, and against all better judgement - I quite enjoyed it!
The World Is Not Enough (1999)
Decent Bond Movie
This is pretty good! Far more character motivated than the previous movie, at the expense of plot. Not that much action, except for the pre-credits sequence which was great, as it just kept on building, and you forgot that you haven't even seen the opening credits yet!
Brosnan is effortless as bond in this movie - the role is now his. Robert Carlyse is a bit of a dissappointment as Renard, but Sophie as Elktra King was good. But Denise Richards as a nuclear Scientist - luckily she's not in it that much.
Entrapment (1999)
Soooo bad
I can't think of anything good to say about this movie. Catherine Zeta Jones puts in a very dull performance, that will cast a shadow on the good work she did on The Mask of Zorro. Connery is just Connery. No better, no worse. But he is old enough to be her GRANDFATHER! The attempt at creating some sexual tension between them was very odd. The setpeices are also disappointing, as they are tensionless and lacking in inventiveness. Don't pay money.
Heart (1999)
Disappointing
I was really looking forward to this movie. I'm a great fan of Jimmy McGovern's work. But this film just failed to engage me at any point. It felt like an episode of Cracker, but without the Cracker side of the plot. In fact, the whole thing felt like a lame TV drama, despite the widescreen format. Unltimately, a disappointment.
