Dune (2000)
It's better than the movie, but doesn't touch the book
Having only seen the first part of the mini series I'm drawn back from taking a side of: it's good or it's bad. However, there are some points that I would like to bring out.
What I do like: The special effects. The sandworms put the Dune movie to shame. I absolutely loved to watch the scenes with them. The ships no longer look like boxes.
What I dont like: The changes. "Tell me of the waters on your home world, Usul." That is the line. That is what the line should be. I don't like the change in calling him Usul. I'm certian in a 6 hour mini series they could explain the Fremen naming more. I don't like that Paul met Stilgar before the dessert exile. I also find it unfitting and out of place for him to meet Irulan prematurely. He never cared about her at all, she was just a vessel for him later. The scene with the hunter seeker lost it's meaning to me with it's additions. The lack of inner voice gives characters less convictions.
Most of all - they didn't wear their face masks on their still suits. And they left the doors open. Both of which are a no-no on Arrakis.
X-Men (2000)
My only complaint...
My only complaint is that they gave Rogue a name. Besides that, I thought this was THE best movie I've seen this year and THE best super hero film.
The acting was excellent, especially Hugh Jackman. He portrayed Wolverine very accurate. I think most of the characters were accurately portrayed (except Mystique of course)... I also have never realized how boring Cyclopse is.
I recommend going to see this once or twice or three times. I know I am.
Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace (1999)
worth the wait...
I know a lot of people have had mixed feelings about this movie but I've seen it twice so far and I want to see it more. The story is a great beginning (or continuation) and the people who play the characters are amazing. There was not one instance in the course of the movie that I wanted it to get on with it or get over with.
The Jedi fights were much better and amazing. The music was compelling, the effects were astonishing.
I am eagerly awaiting Episodes II and III now ;-)
Voltron: The Third Dimension (1998)
Great computer animation!
Even though it's on at 6:30 am here, I had to watch it! It is a continuation of the original from what I gather and it is some great computer animation. Their uniforms are really good especially the Princess. I'm highly impressed and not disappointed! A must see for everybody, not just the original viewers.
