The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring (2001)
Good ... but not the best
A good fantasy film .... but not the best film ever. So much has had to be cut from the orgianal book to get it on to the screen that the character's lose the depth and orginailty they had in the book.
However I don't think it is possible to do a better job than Peter Jackson did in getting this onto the big screen.
Lucky Break (2001)
Not Funny
Calling this a comedy is like calling a pile of compost a flower garden (I was going to write something else but didn't think it would be published).
Its just isn't funny
- its unbelievable, - "Hello I'm a very attractive, professional woman, I'll just wander off alone with an armed robber for a romantic meal !!!",
- makes no sense "Hello I'm depressed prisoner(Timothy Spall) - the guards hate me, my wife is seeing another man, I was framed ... oops now I have cancer,,"
- and is very, very bad.
I wasted nearly 2 hours of my life on this film ... I wish I could have had a 'Lucky Break' and missed it altogether
Planet of the Apes (2001)
Tim How Did it All go Wrong - Stick to Gothic 'Horror'
Oh dear, I had such high hopes for this film.
At first I was worried when I heard that 'Planet of the Apes' was to be re-made. It all seemed like a rather cheap (well not if the budget is $100m) attempt at a 'sure-fire' summer blockbuster - but on hearing that Tim Burton was to directed I began to look forward to seeing the finished product. After all wasn't this the man who had brought us Edward Scissorhands, Sleep Hollow and BeetleJuice.
But after seeing the film all I can say is stick to gothic horror Tim. It doesn't engage at any a level, its not exciting, not at all interesting, predictable and worst of all the shock ending makes no real sense. It does look 'authentic' and the make-up was first class with Tim Roth and Helen Bonham Carter doing their best to kick some life in a hack script. But with little success - a dead dog (or ape in this case) is still a dead dog. One of the worst of the Summer 2001 blockbusters.
