Liar Liar (1997)
Compare to ALL OF ME (1984)
SPOILERS FOR -LIAR, LIAR- AND -ALL OF ME- (1984).
While I have tremendous admiration for Carrey's work in LIAR, LIAR, the courtroom scenes have more than slight similarities to Steve Martin's ALL OF ME (1984): both feature lawyers who "must" tell the
truth (Martin because half of his body has been taken over by Lily Tomlin's disembodied spirit and she is a habitual truth-teller) in a divorce case that could make or break their careers.
Martin's work in ALL OF ME won, I believe, the New York Film Critics' award for Best Actor but of course the AMPAS totally ignored him when Oscar time came.
The Big Heist (2001)
Poor Man's "GoodFellas"
This movie takes the Lufthansa heist, which was a part of "Goodfellas", and expands it into a whole movie. While this is not a criticism in itself (and it's interesting to see how different screenwriters, actors, and directors handle the same factual material), "The Big Heist" can't hold a stylistic candle to G-F although it does contain much more detailed information; G-Fs, as far as I can remember, never mentioned the existence of Jimmy's (DeNiro's) children, one of whom plays a major role in "Heist".
