Scream 3 (2000)

Entertaining...and that's what counts!!!
4 February 2000
Let me start by saying I really enjoyed this movie. NO...it was not the same as Scream 1...but it is NOT supposed to be. It was fun, entertaining, cheezy, funny...and some chills too. Now I must digress for a second and say, this movie belongs to Parker Posey. Her hilarious, over the top performance as a spoiled new age Hollywood star...as Gale Weathers....provides many of the best moments in the film. I have been a big fan of hers and I think this movie finally brings her immense comedic talents to a more main stream crowd. So...this may be brainless and cliche ridden...but you can not deny the entertaining fun of it.

It's My Party (1996)

Blown away by the sentiment...
8 March 1999
I watched this movie alone one morning on video, expecting it to be a cool ensemble cast movie. It ended up pulling me in so completely that I ignored the phone and never once touched the pause button. It is another of those Hollywood films that may be technically or structurally lacking in the minds of critics...but in my heart and mind it was powerful and effective. By casting known names in many of the subliminal roles...we had a built-in sympathy for them in this situation. The comedy, although sometimes very macabre was believable. I also found the situation believable based on the type of character played by Eric Roberts...the farewell party seemed to fit his personality. I recommend this film to people willing to open their hearts and who don't mind a good cry...

A feel good film, which I couldn't help but enjoy...
21 February 1999
I just saw an advance preview screening of this film and must say I really enjoyed it. It is one of those films that critics will say is too much like a tv movie or sitcom material...but you can't help but fall in love with the characters and care about the situations they are put in. The performances are all around sincere and thoughtful. Regardless of what the critics might say...I felt that this movie truly took me into the lives of these people and made me feel for them, and that is what I go to the movies for...

If you aren't laffing out loud...check your pulse, you might in a coma!!
16 February 1999
This was without a doubt one of the best movies I had seen when I saw it at the theatre...and I continue to laugh everytime I rent it. Anyone like myself who has done community theatre will appreciate some of the humour even more than others...but it is not necessary. Every performer fills their role so completely you can never imagine anyone else playing their role. This movie is not for all tastes...It is a mock-documentary style which annoyed some of my friends (but I still let them be my friends...kidding) and there is little action or big special effects...there is A UFO and a musical number for those who demand such things...but better yet...sit back, relax and enjoying meeting the characters as that is what this film is all about.

Affirmed my love of film...
13 February 1999
This movie helped me to once again remember why I love movies. It combined humour, drama, romance and character development in all the right doses. I must admit also, I am an Actor wannabe and could relate to many of the references to the desire to be on stage. It may sound corny to say...but I felt that the actors on screen were enjoying themselves, proud to be there and believed in what they were doing. That is not something you experience much anymore and it made the film that much more enjoyable. I have my fingers crossed for it come Oscar time.

Psycho (1998)
What could of been...
13 December 1998
I went to see the new Psycho with high expectations. I saw the original in a film studies course years ago. I must say that I was disappointed by the new film. Technically it is bothersome. I noticed a number of scenes that seemed to start in broad daylight and end looking like the middle of the night. Maybe Hitchcock did that too but we couldn't tell cause of the black and white. Then there were the addition of subliminal scenes at certain points...why? And I realize they were trying to update it...but Julianne Moore seemed to have an unnatural attachment to her Walkman which was highly intrusive. I felt that by staying so close to the original this remake suffered. it added nothing new and yet seemed to be trying to be different. I can not put my finger on exactly what was the biggest problem except to say it did not come together very well at all.

A moving portrayal of family dynamics.
5 December 1998
I hate to say I enjoyed this movie as the subject matter does not lend itself to enjoyment. However, I was moved by the way the family relationships were portrayed and the sincerity of the performances. It was the kind of film I told all my friends and family to experience as a reminder of how important we all are to each other.
