Like a compelling home movie.
1 September 1999
This hard-to-find gem is more than a slice of Texas, it's a slice of America. It's the final night of the local loser hangout, shot as if you just walked in the place and hung out for an hour and a half. I really wonder how much of the film's dialogue was actually scripted and how much was adlibbed. There are some truly funny one-liners early on (Mostly by "Claude"). The non-stop profanity does get a little unrealistic and the ending was sort of unsatisfactory, however, what we have is a film containing most of the elements of a truly classic independent film. Sort of a po' man's "Last Picture Show". Seek it out.

The final days of film-noir...
1 September 1999
Robert Mitchum is crazy cool as always, but the film suffers from screaming predictability. From 1950, this movie was released in the last days of classic film noir. From reel one it's all there...You've got the chump, the average joe, the femme fatale...There's not a single surprise in this movie and you've seen it all before (and better).

Big hype...No payoff!
14 August 1999
Yes, I know the popular thing to say is "it leaves so much to the imagination". The problem is it leaves EVERYTHING to the imagination. So much so that you could stay at home, the $7 and imagine the whole movie...you would be just as well off. Big, big hype....No payoff. Curiously non-atmospheric, the movie just sort of sits there. I can understand why it has made so much money, but why it is in the top 250 on imdb.com?

Hollywood self-parody that forgot the humor!
3 March 1999
I knew all about "Allan Smithee" before I saw this movie and I got most of the in-jokes. They just weren't very humorous. If you're into Hollywood "stars" breaking the "third person" rule, you might like it. You might.

Bad acting and dialogue makes you think you're watching a high school play!
3 March 1999
I can't believe this is David Mamet. I can't believe William H Macy is in this. Watching this is like watching a bad high school play. The acting is not up to par, the dialogue is laughable. I didn't believe the characters for a minute! Too bad...the premise seemed interesting.

Unfunny, monotonous, and a general waste of time.
3 March 1999
Why turn an unfunny series of prank phone calls into a movie? Whose idea was this? Why does this movie have Alan Arkin in it? Watching this movie will not answer any of these questions, it will only make you inquire "Why am I watching this movie?"

Horrible special effects....Alan Thicke uses profanity!
8 December 1998
This movie which rehashes the tired plot of terrorists taking over a high school, has some of the worst special effects I've seen outside an Ed Wood feature. Alan Thicke ("Growing Pains" Dad) uses profanity, so that's kind of funny. Wait! This isn't a comedy...never mind.

Fun
8 December 1998
Hey! Someone remembered action movies were supposed to be fun. Turn off your brain and enjoy! Patrick Swayze rules as the king of the bouncers. The plot is paper thin...Some of the lines are ridiculous...This is one of the only movies I can think of from the late '80's/early '90's that would register as camp.

How silly.
4 December 1998
What a silly movie. If you can't figure who the masked guy is after the first five minutes of seeing him, then you need to get a new hobby.
