Cybill (1995–1998)
Comic at its best - and beautiful at that!
28 May 1999
Not since Murphy Brown with the absolutely fabulous Candice Bergen have I enjoyed a sitcom so much - even if in Germany it is dubbed in......(you guessed it)...German.

The two main caracters show immense wit and insight into life´s little problems - and it seems that they enjoyed themselves thoroughly during the shooting of the series.

Cybill is no doubt one of the world´s most beautiful women!

Murphy Brown (1988–2018)
The Best!!!
28 May 1999
In my opinion the best sitcom ever! Candice Bergen, surrounded by a brilliant cast, shows wit and intelligence - and not to mention she is (still in my opinion) probably the world´s most beautiful woman.

As, alas, it is dubbed in German in Germany I would give a lot to be able to watch it in original language.

Nice period piece - weak plot
27 February 1999
The story being a wee bit weak is more than carried by the class actors. Greta Scacchi is just magnificent and you can literally FEEL the tension when she lusts for McGregor in the greenhouse-scene. Not at all as bad as some would make it out to be. Nice period piece shot in beautiful surroundings.

Excellent - and it keeps getting better! I MUST watch it again....and again.....
24 February 1999
Just watched the film for the 3rd time and enjoyed Lindsay Crouse and the rest of the cast just as much as before. It just keeps getting better and better. You simply have to marvel at the carefully measured way of speech, the slow deliberate action, everything being exactly in place.

Truly one of the great ones and definitely my all-time favourite!!!

Truly frightening, not for timid souls!
13 February 1999
The film depicts the hunt for and final capture of John Wayne Gacy and Dennehy, in my opinion one of Americas great actors, is truly, truly FRIGHTENING in the main part. Your blood almost freezes and you grab someone´s arm, when he succeeds in luring yet another bait. Also Kidder does a memorable performance as the clairvoyant and never goes over the top.

Definitely worth watching - but don´t watch it alone......

somewhat long, but worth every minute!
13 February 1999
If somewhat long, this epic "western" tells the story of Custer´s last defeat and tries to show what kind of man he was. Cole gives a stunning performance and the film is made interesting when seen thru "2 pairs of eyes", the wife of Custer seeing it from a white point of view and the Indian girl telling the truth about a black chapter of America´s history

Definitely worth watching!

Best thriller - EVER!
17 January 1999
This film has you glued to your comfy chair! You bite your nails and hope this terror is soon to end! But it goes on and on and you are glad it does because it is sooo brilliant!

Don´t miss it!

Elizabeth (1998)
Magnificent!
18 November 1998
What a truly magnificent film! Cate Blanchett is absolutely mesmerising as the Virgin Queen who to the (alas - a slip I am sure) opening af Mozart´s Requiem, written a few hundred years AFTER Elizabeth lived - I am pretty sure it WAS Mozart´s Requiem - marries England.......

However, the still very beautiful and sensual Fanny Ardant almost steals the show as Marie de Guise.

Delightful look into the problems of a cross-dresser
14 November 1998
Somewhat too long and going over the top towards the end, this comedy is an utterly delightful, never condescending or ridiculing look into the problems of a "power man", who likes to wear women´s clothes at nite.

Julie Walters is lovely as always, but Adrian Pasdar is utterly credible and steals the film. He (she)is absolutely gorgeous in high heels and silk stockings.

Medea (1988 TV Movie)

Stunning - a schocking masterpiece, burns itself into your mind!
14 November 1998
Lars von Trier´s adaptation of the ancient Greek play (HIS tribute to Carl Th. Dreyer, who originally wrote the manuscript but never got around to filming it) is absolutely stunning.

The actors´ performances (above all Kirsten Olesen, incidentally one of Denmark´s top actresses makes you gasp), the wide landscapes and carefully selected sparse dialogue, but especially Lars von Trier´s direction makes this film a shocking look into the disturbed mind of a woman who has been scorned and left. Medea´s revenge is horrible but never unbelievable. She does what every sane person would do, when deprived of all that she loves. The film burns itself into your mind and leaves you with a lasting impression of what human misery can be like.

A veritable piece of art, belonging up there with most of von Trier´s works - and above all up there with ALL of Dreyer´s works!

Vampyr (1932)

Ultimate masterpiece in terms of suggested horror!
14 November 1998
This film is probably the ultimate masterpiece in terms of vampires and SUGGESTED horror. Dreyer´s perfect use of light and shadow suggests a lot more to the mind than is actually seen on screen.

Only "Nosferatu" the German film by Murnau from 1922 (and thus 10 years this films predecessor) comes near it.

The film to end all films - the film to end all wars!
11 October 1998
This film is an attack on your senses. The first half hour should be shown to all the world, that all wars may end. This film has you glued to the seat and everyone in the movie theatre is dead quiet. The sheer magnitude of the event(s) depicted in this film are beyond all imagination and can only leave you feeling awed. Hanks is just outstanding.

Not since "Shindler´s List", I think has there been a war movie so powerful and......ANTI-WAR!

Don´t miss it

Delightful for both children and grown-ups
10 October 1998
A time-less masterpiece based on Beatrix Potter´s children´s stories. Beautifully acted (danced) and delightful in every way. Watch out for Joan Benham in the small silent role of Beatrix´ childhood nurse

Another masterpiece from Hannah Gordon
30 September 1998
Just another marvel, featuring brilliant Hannah Gordon (see Day After The Fair) and the towering English actress, Dame Wendy Hiller, on an excursion in Versailles...and in time.

Ultimate masterpiece
30 September 1998
Just the ultimate masterpiece in my opinion. Every line, every phrase, every picture is exactly in place and Lindsay Crouse and Joe Mantegna are just THE cool shrink and the sleazy con-man, so well cast. 10 out of 10!

excellent - passion in Victorian surroundings
30 September 1998
Just brilliant! Hannah Gordon, that very under-rated BRILLIANT English actress gives the performance of her life, when the love story, of which she is really the creator, gets out of hand.

There is just so much fire and passion behind that cool superficial facade......

Everyone else around her, not least Anna Massey and Sammi Davis are just fantastic too.....
