Bounty Killer (2013)
Queen Beeyotch
This could have a been a good movie, but the Mary Death character was extraordinarily bitchy! Not to mention that she was a textbook example of the action-chick cliché. I was actually cheering for the bad guys to smack her around.
But, the animated graphics were done pretty well, and overall the movie was competently made -- it was reminiscent of the Mad Max series, with copious amounts of blood, gore, and gun-play.
The character of the gun caddy was a hoot, though, and he actually served a useful function (it's the sort of character many an action hero could use). However, I can't recommend it because of the aforementioned Mary Death bitchiness.
Timequest (2000)
A time-travel cliche!
A few good ideas can't save this uneven TV-quality movie about preventing the assassination of JFK. It skipped around in time (hah!) too much, the tone varied from sentimental to unintentionally funny, and the nudity & swearing felt shoehorned in for no good reason.
I think there was a half-hour episode of the 80's "Twilight Zone" that dealt with this exact idea, but the best take that I've seen was the "Red Dwarf" episode 'Tikka To Ride', in which the crew accidentally saves JFK and botches things up in trying to ensure that the assassination occurs. It was a lot more entertaining (and an hour shorter) than this cheesy movie!
eXistenZ (1999)
If VR is identical to reality, how do you tell the difference?
The movie progressed rather slowly for my tastes, but the ending does provide some interesting twists. And though it lacks the action and flash of "The Matrix", if you prefer story over special effects you'll probably enjoy it.
It's Like, You Know... (1999)
Surprisingly funny!
One of the few new sitcoms this year that I may actually watch regularly. Sure, it seems like "Seinfeld" in L.A., but so what? If it remains funny, I'll continue to tune in.
