The Doom Generation (1995)
Sex + Mayhem = Excellent Film
Gregg Araki chose to make a road film to add to his list of indie films. This road movie however isn't some expectable, stupid film, this road movie takes a dark look at today's youth. Hell Yeah! It's about time. Rose McGowan shines in her first starring role as the bold Amy Blue. The Doom Generation is so out there, dark, disturbing, funny that it makes Natural Born Killers look like a Disney film. Doom Generation is one film that should not be missed. *Warning: Do not watch if you have heart condition, squeamish, pregnant, or offended by harsh or profane language!*
Twilight (1998)
A cool, seductive film
Twilight didn't do big a the box office but should have. The story of a Hollywood couple, an old friend, and a horrible past. Paul Newman gives a performance that's believable and fun. Resse Witherspoon, although it wasn't a big part, is the Hollywood couple's sex-craved, smart mouth daughter who comes around at the end. The other cast member give true-to-life performances. Rent this movie.
Urban Legend (1998)
One of the best
I just saw Urban Legend and it is one of the best in years. All the way through the movie, the old, tired, stupid legends get fresh updated features that make your skin crawl in fright. The writing is kind of campy but the action makes up for it. Plus, an extra bonus. The ending! You think you figured out who is the killer(s) and the usual sweet ending, but the BAM! it changes and you want to stand up and cheer. This movie belongs up at the top with Scream.
Wild Things (1998)
Fast, fun, and sexy
How does Neve Campbell follow Scream? With one of the most exciting, fun, creative movies of all time. Great story, acting, characters. Everyone gave a knock-out performance that leaves with a great feeling inside.
Phantoms (1998)
Highly entertaining
Yes, the book Phantoms is better then the movie, but when isn't it. This movie did not try to cash in on Scream because it's a thriller with no connection to a human serial killer. The movie, with the screenplay written by the author Dean Koontz, is fantastic. Combining fact with fiction, it keeps you wondering what will happen next. There are major differences between the book and movie but none that will make you dislike it. Books and movies should never be compared. Rose McGowan, Ben Affleck, Liev Schreiber, Joanna Going, and Peter O'Toole give performances that make you think, scare you, and make you laugh. So many people put this movie down and some had preconceived notions about it they didn't see it, but if you 're at a video store, RENT IT!!!!!!! Phantoms is one of those movies that stay in the back of your mind forever.
Disturbing Behavior (1998)
Hell Yeah! I loved this film!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I thought this film was great. It was very entertaining, funny, and the truth that there probably are people like this walking around our high schools made it great. People had high hopes and THEY were crushed but I LOVED IT. C'mon, it's a horror movie. It's not like it's gonna win an Oscar. Very cool and creepy.
Lewis & Clark & George (1997)
A breath of fresh air for the genre
Road movie aren't found often today. Or maybe I should say, good road movies aren't found often today. This movie, with a short of cheesy plot, is fun to watch, especially if you enjoy Rose McGowan. It gives a whole new meaning to quality. Plus, you'd never guess the ending.
SubUrbia (1996)
Excellent movie
SubUrbia is one of those movies that stay in your mind forever. With gripping dialog, funny characters, and the strange reality that makes you believe this movie is happening while you're watching it. Dina Spybey gave a great performance even though the movie didn't include her as much as I hoped it would. Everyone else give incredible performances. Plus, it 's a Parker Posey movie, what else could you ask for.
