The Wrong Guy (1997)
This is not brain candy...more like brain poison.
How can someone who produces this drivel be called a writer. I hate writing and I am very bad at it but I bet I could do better. It hurt my soul watching this crap. How can talented people produce this garbage. If you are the type that thinks water spraying in someone's face when the pretend they don't know how to move their head to make it stop...then maybe this is for you. Maybe you think badly thought out site gags are great comedy. Maybe you like reused jokes like making up fake names by looking around the room for words...that sure is funny. The fact that this film is rated almost the same as Brain Candy is a crime. Blame the director...David Steinberg never was funny. I turned it off 1 hour in to end the torture. Maybe the end is better.
Sleeping Giant (2015)
Authentic and captivating but an empty ending
I had very little trouble getting caught up in what I was watching, which can be a problem for me sometimes. The dialogue was not riveting but it also wasn't phony. This is a problem with many films about youth. They are written with adult dialogue. I was also very impressed with the way the characters were conceptualized and portrayed. They was nothing cliché about who these 3 boys were.
The acting was just okay...it was easy to see that the cast was inexperienced but it didn't really bother me.
I didn't like was the lighting or the shaky camera work...a clear sign of a low budget.
I thought the ending was weird and weak. Both the scenes that involved the fish market woman were terrible and should have just been cut from the film. Especially the unexpected scene at the end. It was hard to believe that this would ever happen or play out the way it did.
Over all it was a good flick and worth my time.
Treed Murray (2001)
Bad title great flick!
I didn't expect to even watch this film but I basically forgot to change the channel and was fixed to the T.V. from start to finish. Great story line, great twists, fairly well acted but it would have been nice to throw a few more buckaroos at a script like this. Not a masterpiece but I was definitely captivated from start to finish.
Good Will Hunting (1997)
A good editor away from being a masterpiece!
I like the way I felt after I finished watching this film. Not in a happy Hollywood ending kind of way, more of a contented put my feet up thing. These days it seems that a film is either transparently contrived as a money making vehicle, pretentiously aimed at being an art piece or just plain bad! It was nice to see an excellent story done in an above average way! My only regret is that a few scenes were not left on the editing room floor. For example why was the "don't masturbate in my moms room scene there". Not because of the subject matter but because A: it wasn't interesting or well done and B: It had no connection with anything else that happened. It could have replaced with another interaction scene between Damon and Driver so that when all the, "I love you's" started flying around I wasn't left scratching my head and thinking, already! You may think I didn't like this flick. Wrong, it was excellent and I give it a nine!
