ridiculous Hollywood miracle ending
6 July 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Pretty good film except the twisted ending, when one of the criminals miraculously resurrects and is classified as the hero, and the good girl performs a criminal act, is reunited with her estranged lover and has so much energy left to touchingly and saintlike visit the little girl who got the wrought iron fence point through her stomach at the beginning of the movie and decides to put on her high visibility reflective WORK jacket while WALKING home.

good acting
1 January 2022
The acting is very enjoyable. The story is pretty good. Constant tension. From the beginning. Will there be a (sudden) violent moment? Who has the power? Who takes it? Some scenes are weird and hard to understand. Do they contribute to the whole?

who is ... who?
9 November 2020
Warning: Spoilers
In almost every scene , new characters are introduced. they can be either bad or good guys. they are either teaming up with another person...or not.. this makes it impossible to follow the story and also hard to root for one person. who hired the private investigator? and who's side is he on? who hired the lawyer? and who's side is he on? what does the sister do? why? who is out for revenge? what kind of revenge?

average and many questions
2 August 2020
Warning: Spoilers
I had some fun, i also had some questions. why does brock vanish from the story? brock is devious and fun. why does Binkley stop working / using her dog-cookies-with-human-meal-taste? we get involved with that suspenseful storyline and it switches to a different, pale storyline. why do Talia and Bob not speak for the large part of the movie? why did Talia and Bob walk around as cat and dog the evening Horatio burgled their caravan?

The Double (I) (2011)

double 3
3 March 2015
Warning: Spoilers
one illogical twist after another. especially the end : Ben Geary (Topher Grace) has been waiting for 10 years to kill Cassius, so why doesn't he kill him when he's right in front of him and has a gun in his hand to do it? And does he think the Russians will allow him (sleeper / Russian agent) to remain with his American family? no way! And why doesn't he tell Tom Highland (Martin Sheen) the truth? That Gere = Cassius and Bozlovski = also an assassin, just a different one. And that Bozlovski (Tamer Hassan) killed Gere's wife and son in 1988. Apparently, it is easy to lie to the head of CIA as well as FBI. You even get a job proposal! By the way, why would a CIA agent have more field-work than an FBI agent? Usually, it is the other way around. Another illogicality. And another thing : why would an assassin (Richard Gere) live out the rest of his life in the same town/vicinity, where the most CIA and FBI agents are around (headquarters)? Maybe I see more crazy issues than there are, blurred by seeing so many crazy issues.

Quiz (2012)

comedy or thriller?
2 February 2013
Warning: Spoilers
I agree somewhat with the other reviewers : this movie's genre is a strange mix of thriller and comedy. The comedy is good ; the thriller is insufficient. And indeed, it is too bad, that the smaller roles are played by amateurs. Also, the final scene is unnecessary. If the movie would have ended with the ambulance speeding off, the story would have been more exciting. The best aspect of the movie is, that, until the end, you're not sure if the man has actually kidnapped the game show host's wife & child. Strange that Kim van Kooten plays such a small role. I did enjoy viewing the movie. I even laughed once or twice. And that makes it worth it!

Black Out (I) (2012)

relatively good movie
2 February 2012
this is a relatively good movie, since it was made in Holland, with a limited selection of actors to choose from, a small budget and a few days of shooting. The movie contains a satisfying amount of jokes, action, babes, fairly original characters and thrillers. Too bad some of the scenes are almost exactly the same as Hollywood movies: the 'godfather' of the crime gang is in a wheelchair and uses oxygen. This reeks of Things to do in Denver when you're dead. Also, the scene in which the babes are chatting in their car, just before doing a job on Willy, is similar to the conversations John Travolta and Samuel L. Jackson have in Pulp Fiction.

two funny jokes, that's it
13 September 2001
irritating, illogical flow of events. pretty much every joke is so simple that it can hardly be regarded as one. no wonder the cinema was empty and people actually walked away, yes away. I stayed, since I was enjoying a wonderful ice-cream with nuts during the whole movie.

questionable scenario
26 May 2001
I would like to overshadow my comment with some questions on the plot: - Jezzie Flannigan fools all professionals; she must be cunning, ruthless and intelligent. Why can't she persuade an untrained kid then? Are Megan and Dimitri secret agents in the making or some such thing? - Soneji has not only prepared for years, he's on top of Cross' progress using various media. How come he has no knowledge of the ransom request? He disapproves of Cross' attempts of trickery, but why does he use deceit himself during the conversation about the 12 million? - Jonathan manufactors and sticks a beard to his face every day, for 2 years, in order to look like Soneji. Why this disguise, since he was to come face to face with Cross anyway? Why not GROW a beard? ha? - Cross omits to investigate on how Dimitri was lured to the phonebooth. - Penelope is 37 and quite good-looking. Why has she been transformed into a near dead tart?

Babs (2000)

not grand yet acing at its goal
5 January 2001
the story is simple. the locations are limited. the actors are not numerous. the jokes, though, are original and humorous. feelings of sadness just as well as happiness are portrayed frequently and honestly. we are also presented with a couple of songs. They all seem to be sung by the actors themselves, even the cute little girl. That's almost overdoing it, but acceptable. All in all enjoyment. p.s. B.K. actually plays a double role: Babs and Carla (bitch)

lots of solid
24 August 2000
lots of things go by in this movie. Being in love, family bonds, originality in religions, friendships, slapstick, faith in several subjects of life. All actors are good, genuine and beautiful if and where they should be. Not exceptional, though. Each one's job and other activities are portrayed exactly right. Alas, never and nowhere superbly or exemplary. A seven & a tear.

nothing new under the hood
18 August 2000
This movie shows us nothing original. Every idea or (action) scene can be found in many previously released movies. Fabulous Nick is completely plain here. Even Will Patton is calm and evil nor good. Mr. Duvall is ok, but has a very small part. So does Angelina, so how can we determine her newly acclaimed stardom? Overall, there are too many characters, so that nobody and nothing is especially detailed. This makes the movie easy to forget. Too bad, don't you think?

a revelation to the watchers and the actors
30 July 2000
we encounter: loyalty (wife, sons, bandits), heroism, intelligence (biblical conversations, technological inventions), corruption (us), obsessiveness, humor (twins), love (girl), hate (rev.), idealism, dogmas, adventure, scenery, worldly questionings (narrator), unexplained events (ice to savages), incoherent statements (civilization!), materialism, madness and much more. All together one of the most interesting, intriguing and reviewable movies of all times.

28 Days (2000)
unpretentious
30 June 2000
this movie in not great. it's also not bad. it's somewhere in between. there are no boring or misplaced scenes. there are no bombastic situations. Still some very sad and stressfull pictures are drawn. At just the right moment and just the right intensity you feel angry, sad or happy with the characters. Especially Gerhardt!

Even Perkins the sister is calmly angry. Too bad her nametag says Lily C., while all the fuss is about her recent marriage. Do you suppose she kept her maiden name? That's modern!

a goof in the film
25 June 2000
The bottle of mouthwater in the hotel disappears in a shot following the one in which it's used by the dentist.... Otherwise the movie is quite simple and not very original, but entertaining, rather funny and with some appealing shots.
