Sex & Nudity

  • Some kissing throughout, a couple instances somewhat prolonged.
  • A couple have sex midway through the season, very tastefully done with lighting and camera angles obscuring any explicit nudity. Gentle thrusting, kissing, and moaning is seen and heard during the act, all in a far more romantic context than anything else.
  • A male watches a female undress to her panties & bra while the camera slowly pans up her bare legs & stops at her buttocks for a lingering shot.
  • A shirtless man is seen.

Violence & Gore

  • Many Walker deaths, as would be expected in The Walking Dead. Lots of blood and gore.
  • At the start of episode one, Rick stands at the border wall killing multiple walkers with increasing ferocity. Lots of stabbings in the head, which results in Rick being covered in blood.

Profanity

  • Around half a dozen uses of f*ck, and many instances of shit, goddamn, hell, and other mild profanities throughout.

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • Several characters are seen drinking whiskey and beer a few times throughout the season, nothing too major considering they're in an apocalypse.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

Spoilers

The Parents Guide items below may give away important plot points.

Sex & Nudity

  • The same couple has sex again at the start of the finale, again tastefully done in a romantic context with subtle thrusting and hidden nudity. The man places a ring on the woman's finger mid-act to symbolise their undying love and complete faith in each other, and they kiss deeply but tenderly.

Violence & Gore

  • Rick purposely cuts himself.
  • At the end of episode one, Rick is flying in a helicopter with several other soldiers, when they come under fire. Several of the soldiers are shot, one soldier's upper-half explodes, and there is blood splatter around the helicopter, and all over Rick. Very graphic.
  • Rick cuts his hand off in the beginning scene.
  • A group is mercilessly bombed with chlorine gas, resulting in many disturbing and emotional deaths of innocent characters. They are seen with burns on the faces and hands, coughing violently and breathlessly, and are later seen oozing bloody drool and vomit after they've become walkers. The only two survivors barely survive, and spend a year on oxygen tanks recovering from their afflictions.
  • A walker forces its way through a jammed revolving door, quite literally splitting itself into three sections. Skin is seen graphically ripping apart, with it's gore soaked body shown falling away as it cuts itself trying to reach a character on the other side.
  • A fairly major character is impaled with a small axe, crashes their car in a chase, and is later bitten by walkers, resulting in their eventual death via gunshot to the head. The character gets progressively weaker with each injury, and is seen pale and blood-soaked with a pretty graphic bite mark on their neck by the end of the episode.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • Rick brutally cutting his hand off to escape the CRM and subsequently cauterizing the bleeding stump in the burning body of a walker makes for a very intense scene, more so considering it's in the first few minutes of the first episode. The fact he fails to escape makes the scene all the more depressing and painful to watch.
  • Rick breaks down to Michonne over the loss of his eldest son Carl who died in the mothership show, and the fact he can't see him or Michonne herself in his dreams anymore. Very emotional scene that makes way for a gratifying and hopeful ending to the episode.
  • At the start of the season, Rick considers killing himself with a shard of glass at his throat. He decides not to go through with it (leaving a small bloody cut), but seeing a beloved character act this low and without hope may be upsetting for some.
  • The CRM bombing Michonne, Nat, and the rest of the travelling group with chlorine gas is extremely intense and hard to watch, resulting in the violent and painful deaths of almost everyone involved, including Bailey and a pregnant Aiden, two very likable characters. Michonne and Nat spend the next year recovering from their affliction. Possibly the most depressing part of the show.
  • Once Michonne reunites with Rick after she and Nat blow his helicopter out of the sky, Nat is shockingly shot in the back mid-sentence by an injured CRM soldier. Very unexpected and very emotional seeing Michonne's tearful reaction to his death.
  • In the finale, Rick is swarmed by walkers and is forced to detonate a grenade to kill them. The episode would have you think he seemingly died in the explosion, with Michonne freezing in shock and horror thinking that too. Fortunately he survives, with the walkers taking the brunt of the blast, but considering how much they've both been through, and with it being the finale, it's a tense (albeit brief) moment of potentially losing a beloved character.
