I enjoyed Nadiya on the British Baking Show and am so happy she's found her voice and a flourishing career afterwards. I love seeing someone who looks like me on tv! But what bothers me about the show is that each episode is clearly an ad for something.
One episode she used Marmite in a recipe and then visited a production plant. That's fine. But what was really disingenuous was when she used Scottish Farmed salmon in a recipe then visited the farms exploiting salmon and their natural habitat to mass produce. The way she was giggling while throwing food into the pens for the salmon made of corn and wheat?!! How on earth is that normal For a fish to eat? And Nadiya giggling about how nutritious the feed is and how wonderful the set up is for the fish with 100k of them crammed in a small space. They failed to mention the fake food coloring and god knows what else they feed these poor exploited animals.
Look, the whole food industry is effed up. But please stop pretending it's a cute all natural farm that isn't hurting the environment. Or that marmite is somehow nutritious and not producing tons of plastic waste. At least be honest about it.
This is about as far from cooking local, fresh food as possible. She told a woman to put spaghetti hoops out of a can onto fish and bake it. What!! Sorry Nadiya, this is a thinly veiled effort at Monetizing off a broken system and not the sincere effort to put forth good food and sustainable practices you're pretending it is.
