Marc Maron’s recent HBO standup special “From Bleak to Dark,” yes, touches on subjects that might be considered bleak and dark. But of course, it’s much more than that. Sure, Maron opens the special by pointing out that society seems to be on a collision course with disaster, and there’s little that can be done about it. But, as the comedian, actor and podcaster tells Variety‘s Awards Circuit Podcast, he’s just being a realist.
“There’s a truth to it,” he says. “And I think that the first 15 or 20 minutes of that special addresses a lot of things in in a fairly broad way, because I wanted it to have some longevity. The negative things I talk about aren’t going anywhere. But also framing the special like that, like ‘I don’t want to be negative, I don’t think anything’s ever gonna get better ever again,...

"I fell completely in love with the role, and somewhere in the back of my mind, I knew it had the potential to change my life. Of course, I had no idea that people would probably know me as ‘Hathoda Tyagi’. I have to constantly try and do something which is as exciting as Hathoda, which is going to be very difficult," actor Abhishek Banerjee tells Ians.
The actor will soon be seen in the Short ‘Sex, Likes and Stories’, directed by Keith Gomes on an iPhone, where he plays the character of ‘Chokra Boy’, hailing from a simple social and economic background who uses the social media to pretend to be someone else and tries to live a completely different life. Banerjee smiles that the character is completely opposite to who he is. "I am who I am. Believe me, I cannot even pretend in an interview with a media person.

Most survival horror games, Resident Evil included, reward players who stick around for more than one playthrough. The strongest weapons and upgrades usually hide behind stringent completion requirements, and the Resident Evil 4 Remake is no different.
Resident Evil 4 Remake updates the classic RE4 experience while also keeping much of what made it beloved, including the ability to unlock unlimited ammo. Well, that’s only a half-truth since the term “unlimited ammo” implies you can turn any gun in the RE4 Remake into a Ganados-gutting machine with bottomless clips. In truth, only three weapons in the game have infinite ammo: the Infinite Rocket Launcher, Infinite Handcannon, and Infinite Chicago Typewriter. Here’s how you can acquire them.
Resident Evil 4 Remake: How to Unlock the Unlimited Ammo Rocket Launcher

As much as we adore and revere the theatrical experience, as theater chains prep to reopen amidst a virus that is spreading rapidly in certain areas of the country, one is far better off staying at home and enjoying films from around the world. There’s no better place to do that than The Criterion Channel, and now they’ve unveiled their July lineup.
Coming to the channel next month are retrospectives dedicated to the stellar early films of Atom Egoyan, works by Miranda July, films featuring Ryuichi Sakamoto scores, Olympic films (including their recent release Tokyo Olympiad), plus Kelly Reichardt’s masterful Certain Women, Med Hondo’s Soleil Ô (coming soon to disc with Scorsese’s next World Cinema Project release), Lizzie Borden’s Born in Flames, Asghar Farhadi’s A Separation, and much more.
See the lineup below and explore more on their platform. One can also see our weekly streaming picks here.

Louie Rankin, a Jamaican part-time actor who appeared in films including Belly and Shottas and had a dancehall with “Typewriter,” died Monday in a car crash in Eastern Canada, local police said. He was in his mid-50s.
Ontario Provincial Police said the car Rankin was driving collided with a transport truck near the town of Shelburne.
Born Leonard Ford, the Saint Thomas Parish native played Jamaican drug kingpin Lennox, aka Ox, in 1998’s Belly, opposite rapper-stars Nas and Dmx. He also was known as the Original Don Dada and as Teddy Bruckshut — after the character he played in 2002’s Shottas. He also co-starred in We Run These Streets (2014). On Monday, Rankin posted on Instagram that he was in Toronto to film a movie:

Respected programming executive Simran S. Sethi, most recently Netflix’s director of International Originals, India and the Middle East, has joined ABC Entertainment in the newly created position of Evp, Development and Content Strategy. Reporting to Karey Burke, president of ABC Entertainment, Sethi will oversee comedy, drama and longform series development for the broadcast network.
Sethi began conversations with ABC immediately after she left Netflix in May. While she was reportedly courted by multiple outlets, ABC was considered a likely destination as it reunites Sethi with her former boss at Disney’s Freeform, Burke. It also marks Sethi’s return to broadcast five years after she left NBC.
“Simran is a creative force with deep relationships across the industry and a proven track record of finding and championing impactful series that resonate with viewers,” said Burke. “I’m so happy to welcome her back to the Disney team. Her fierce...

Netflix The four children, who are the prime protagonists, unravel the mystery and prove to be the biggest strength of the series.Geetika MantriAn almost forgotten childhood trauma. An old family home. A new family moving into it, setting off spooky, inexplicable incidents. A string of deaths. Sound familiar? It would be, if you have watched enough horror films. The story arc, no doubt, isn’t new. But if you are a fan of the genre, you’d know that more often than not, it’s the treatment of the combination of the same elements that can make all the difference between a nail-biting watch and a dud. However, Netflix’s newest Indian horror offering, Typewriter, doesn’t fall neatly into either category. Directed by Sujoy Ghosh of Kahaani fame, the series maintains the suspense for the most part, but fails to leave you with scares that you haven’t experienced before.

Mumbai, July 12 (Ians) National award-winning filmmaker Sujoy Ghosh, after making his mark with "Kahaani" and "Badla", is stepping into the world of web series with his upcoming show, Typewriter.
The process of writing stories for a long-format medium as a web series, he concedes, is quite tough, and "Typewriter" was a learning process.
"It is really tough," Sujoy told Ians. "I literally had to unlearn so much from my habit of writing the script of a film, which has a duration of just three hours. I have also written a short film, and this (web series) is such a long format of storytelling. I had a hard time in the beginning. The good thing is now that I am done with my first web series, I can write and direct another one with the ease I do a film. Creatively, I know the path," he added.

Mumbai, July 12 (Ians) Be it Onir films such as "My Brother Nikhil", "Bas Ek Pal", and "I Am", or Sujoy Ghosh's upcoming web series "Typewriter", it is interesting to note how actor Purab Kohli has delivered some of his finest performances in collaboration with Bengali filmmakers. The actor says, without being biased, he believes that Bengalis have always been among the finest storytellers.
"There is no denial of the fact that although there are so many great filmmakers and writers in the country, Bengalis are known for their art, culture and storytelling. Although I have not watched a lot of Bengali films, I have many Bengali friends. All of them are very artistic. Their storytelling really fascinates me," Purab told Ians.
"I have always enjoyed Onir's writing, and Sujoy's work has always fascinated me. So whenever I collaborate with them, magic happens," added the actor.
