Fox this season picked up six drama pilots and six new drama series. One of the new series was ordered straight-to-series and one of the pilots did not go forward but still, the network ended up with a very high pilots-to-series ratio on the drama side. In comedy, one of the three pilots, Outmatched, was picked up. Of the other two, the multi-camera’s Patty’s Auto, set at an auto repair shop with all-female mechanics, was in serious contention. While I hear Fox brass were split over execution, they liked the idea and the auspices involved, including writer/exec producer Darlene Hunt and exec producer Elizabeth Banks.I hear there may be a discussion after the upfront whether to repilot the the project.

Fox today made the bulk of its new series pickups, ordering four dramas — Prodigal Son, starring Tom Payne and Michael Sheen; neXt, starring John Slattery police drama Deputy, headlined by Stephen Dorff; the Annie Weisman/Jason Katims sister drama; based on an Australian format — and comedy Outmatched (fka Geniuses).
That leaves two more drama pilots and three comedy ones. While I hear Fox is yet to give official passes, most of the remaining pilots are not going forward at the network.
In best shape is soapy family drama Filthy Rich, headlined by Kim Cattrall, which is considered a lock as a possible companion to Empire, with details currently being worked out. I hear they have to do with writer/director/exec producer’s Tate Taylor availability as his film schedule may not allow for the series to be ready for fall. Along with the four drama pilots that did get a series order today,...

Kyla Pratt has signed on to the multi-camera comedy pilot “Patty’s Auto” at Fox, Variety has learned exclusively.
Inspired by Patrice Banks’ Girls Auto Clinic–an auto repair shop with all female mechanics–the project is described as an ensemble comedy centering on Patty (Carra Patterson) and the eclectic women who work for her.
Pratt joins previously announced cast members Patterson, Joanna P. Adler, Sarah Levy, and Paola Lázaro. Pratt will play Tiny, Patty’s younger sister by a different father. The opposite of Patty, Tiny wears her heart on her sleeve. She gives manicures at the nail station inside the shop, and she gets frustrated with Patty for treating her like a kid, even when she acts like one.
Pratt made her onscreen debut at age seven, and is well-known for her starring role in the series “One on One” and for lending her voice to the lead...
