Spider-Man 3 won’t be part of the McU. Following the shock cliffhanger ending of Spider-Man: Far From Home, the franchise is about to pivot away from its Marvel-focused storyline over to Sony’s Spider-verse instead. There’s been a lot of confusion about exactly what was happening with Spider-Man since news of the split reached us but just yesterday, we were assured that Tom Holland was remaining on board as the hero and now, the actor’s given us an update on the status of his third solo Spidey movie.
According to Decider’s Alex Zalben, Holland told the audience at Keystone Con that it’s come as “a bit of shock” that the wall-crawler is no longer part of the McU, but he’s already sat down with Sony executives to plan out Spider-Man 3. Furthermore, he assured us that we haven’t seen the last of him as Spider-Man,...

Well, folks, the unthinkable has happened. After the latest Spider-Man flick went on to gross well over $1 billion at the box office, it looks like everyone’s favorite friendly neighborhood hero is out of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. As reported by Deadline, Disney and Sony Pictures were unable to hammer out a new deal with respect to financing future films, and as a result, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige won’t be working on any more Spidey movies going forward.
As Deadline writer Mike Fleming Jr. details, the House of Mouse wanted to change up the arrangement between the two studios and move toward a 50/50 split of financing. Sony, on the other hand, wanted to stick to something akin to the current setup, which gives Disney a 5 percent cut of first-dollar gross. For the record, Marvel Studios already has control of the merchandising on Spider-Man, so one could argue that...

As comics are a visual media I am going to talk about collecting original artwork these week. When I first came up with this subject my initial idea was just the eBay hunting side of things. But collecting original comic artwork goes much further, covering a variety of ways to acquire such items. What I want to do is highlight each of these ways and weigh up the pros and cons of each. This week I don’t really want to get into prices too much. Firstly it is a subject I am not overly familiar with and secondly the valuations aren’t readily available online like they are with comics. I want to start by saying that I believe if you are going to collect original artwork you should do so only for the enjoyment of collecting pieces and admiring the work that went into them. There are of...

Spider-Man: Far From Home may mark the eleventh time that the iconic comic book character has appeared on the big screen, but it was Sam Raimi’s groundbreaking original trilogy that rescued the wall-crawler from decades stuck in development hell back in the early 2000’s. Despite bearing all of the fingerprints of heavy-handed studio interference, Spider-Man 3 isn’t quite the cinematic abomination that some corners of the internet claim, and (for now) it remains the highest-grossing Spider-Man solo movie to date.
Raimi had spent years developing a fourth installment in the franchise, with the script going through multiple drafts by numerous writers before the project was officially canceled by Sony in January 2010 after Raimi dropped out, refusing to compromise the creative process in order to meet the studio-mandated May 2011 release date.

When Sony Pictures started planning out there own Marvel Cinematic Universe with Spider-Man characters, they were originally going to make a Black Cat and Silver Sable team-up movie. They later scrapped that idea and instead wanted to develop two separate films, one for each character.
It’s been awhile since there’s been an update on what’s going on with these movies, but it sounds like the studio is still working on them. Producer Amy Pascal was recently asked in an interview with ScreenRant what villain she thinks deserves to be brought to the big screen, and she responded with the following:
"I like Black Cat a lot, I think she is a really great character. We had her a little bit in the Amazing [Spider-Man] movie, but she's kind of that character that we didn't really turn into the Black Cat yet. I think that's a really great character.

With Marvel Studios and Sony set to release their second film as partners, “Spider-Man: Far From Home,” it’s obvious that folks are going to ask the producers and people behind the scenes about the status of the rest of the ‘Spider-Man’ film universe. Specifically, people want to know what Sony is doing with the million or so spin-off films that are in and out of development. And perhaps the biggest non-‘Venom’ spin-off that fans seem to be psyched about is none other than “Black Cat.”
Speaking to ScreenRant, ‘Spider-Man’ producer Amy Pascal was asked about the “Black Cat” film, and even though the film has seemingly been stopped and started a number of times, Sony is still hoping to bring the female anti-hero to the big screen.

Beginning with Venom last October, Sony launched their own Marvel universe starring Spider-Man’s rogues gallery. Morbius is the next one set to arrive, but at one stage it was going to be Silver and Black, starring anti-heroines Black Cat and Silver Sable teaming up. For a while there, Gina Prince-Bythewood was attached to direct but ultimately the project fell apart. Last thing we heard, the idea was to make separate movies for the characters instead.
But is this still the plan? Sony producer Amy Pascal was asked about the potential for Felicia Hardy/Black Cat on the big screen in an interview with ScreenRant and emphasized how much she likes the character, reminding us that Felicia has already made her movie debut.
“That’s a good question. I like Black Cat a lot, I think she is a really great character. We had her a little bit in the Amazing [Spider-Man] movie,...

If you’re an avid reader of comic books, then there’s a good chance you’ve read a media tie-in at some point – and no, I’m not talking about adaptations for existing movies. In recent years, we’ve seen TV shows like Smallville, Buffy the Vampire Slayer and The X-Files continue their sagas in the medium we love.
On a similar note, we’ve seen the surface scratched when it comes to films that never were. Though Frank Miller was credited as a writer on RoboCop 2, his original screenplay didn’t exactly find itself adapted. Luckily, it was produced as a comic down the line. Conversely, Freddy vs. Jason vs. Ash brought us a crossover sequel of epic proportions.
The reason I’m bringing this up is because Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man 4 has once again become a topic for discussion. In case you hadn’t heard,...

Spider-Man is on the verge of becoming a prominent part of your television viewing habits, thanks to a deal that will see Sony tap the Oscar-winning Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse writer duo of Phil Lord and Chris Miller.
In a development that seems as surreal as the multiple Wall-Crawler teamup in Lord and Miller’s massive animated hit, Sony Pictures Television – having won a competitive bidding situation – has closed a five-year deal with the duo that purportedly resides in the nine-figure range, via THR.
The deal – which procures Lord and Miller as their current overall deal with 20th Century Fox TV expires – gives the duo dominion over a number of shows for what Sony intends to become a Spider-Man television universe, amongst an array of...

In Edgar Allan Poe’s short story “The Black Cat” (1843) a large feline named Pluto follows the narrator “with a pertinacity which it would be difficult to make the reader comprehend.” Poe’s narrator struggles to put into words how, exactly, this pursuit fills him with terror. Cinema has provided a solution to capturing the elusive, uncanny cat: its quiet steps, eerily graceful jumps, gleaming eyes, and mythologized ability to dodge death nine-fold. Unlike dogs, cats are more independent and can’t be relied on to come when they’re called. Cats are expert at hiding, fitting into unbelievably tiny spaces, and their claws are extremely sharp. Hovering in the liminal field between wilderness and domestication, the house cat is often used in horror to parallel the genre’s interest in showing the disintegration of the home or domestic life into chaos. Poe’s story has been loosely adapted as a horror film several times,...

And just as the McU has repeatedly built up to various Avengers movies, and the Dceu reached a point of culmination with 2017’s Justice League, it sounds like Sony’s Universe of Marvel Characters is progressing with its own, ahem, endgame in mind.

Who is Shang-Chi?
Created by Steve Englehart (creator of Star-Lord) and Jim Starlin (creator of Thanos), Shang-Chi is the Master of Kung Fu. That means he’s Really good at martial arts. Indeed, the character actually began life as a thinly-disguised attempt to capitalise on the martial arts exploitation boom of the 1970s. Put it this way: it's no surprise his name rhymes with Bruce Lee.

Before superhero movies completely took over Hollywood, Sam Raimi helped usher it in and prime audiences for what was to come with his Spider-Man films. He ended up making two incredibly fantastic Spider-Man films and a third one that a lot of people didn’t care for. While I enjoyed Spider-Man 3 more than most people, the movie certainly does have some big issues.
Raimi was supposed to make a fourth film and was deep into the development of it when Sony Pictures cancelled the project and opted to reboot the franchise with The Amazing Spider-Man. After that Marvel Studios got involved and have given fans an awesome Spider-Man franchise that fans love.
As a fan of Raimi’s original Spider-Man films, I would have loved see him get to make his fourth film. Well, now there’s an effort by a fan of Raimi’s films to try and make that happen.
