Scooby Doo, even when Scooby should Dont
donttouchmeprimate24 July 2019
Basically it's one of those "hey, let's split up and get to the bottom of this incredibly, spooky and scary mystery that we've become part of and ignore and red flags that keep getting raised" episode.

As you can imagine, this doesn't go well. But that's how idiots would fluke by in a Zombie apocalypse. Fair play to them.

RYAN?... RYAN?!
gabrielphoenix-4585615 April 2020
How the hell did she know his name was Ryan, though? The guy's mute, and I don't recall him giving her his name, correct me if I'm wrong. The show gave his name to US, not HER.

Plus, who the HELL was that guy waiting for them, in the last few seconds? And why did they react to him like he was an acquaintance, or like they knew he was going to be there??

Overall, slightly above average episode. Either way, clearly a step back from previous episodes.

Disappointing
ammodias8 June 2019
This episode is the week link so far and I hope it's not a sign of things to come, the fact the survivors still struggle with the obviousness of taking out the head kills the zombies is daft by this point and the situation at the school is very unrealistic for a series that's been very on point with the way things would probably play out.

Mixed bag

It was very suspenseful and thrilling up until the last 10 minutes or so when it just got ridiculous and completely unrealistic which was out of sync with the rest of the series.

Summer School

How did this series plummet from being interesting in the first episode to cringeworthy in the third?

The Rose character cannot make one single intelligent decision and she puts the group in danger more often times than not. Lose her.

Little Lamplight in a zombie apocalypse
fewald13921 April 2020
Warning: Spoilers
All right, I had to review this episode of Black Summer in particular after seeing all the negative reviews. After watching it, I'm not sure what everyone had a problem with. Children are not innocent. Kids are by far the cruelest, most scheming human beings in existence; perhaps most adults don't remember this from their real-life childhoods, so they can't accept it in fiction. That children are the manipulators in this episode was not only a realistic and underutilized concept, but it also reminded me fondly of the Fallout video game universe, where pockets of demented child-led cults thrived without adult supervision in an apocalyptic wasteland.

This episode had its problems: I personally would have loved to see more than a few underage casualties, and that the adult characters didn't kill their children captors irked me, particularly because this episode sees the death of more than one main character at their hands and it would have been more than justified. Spears shone as a man of reason and logic in this episode, so I look forward to seeing how he handles future hurdles (if he lives long enough to see them).

Overall, Black Summer impressed me by tackling this controversial subject; it's just a shame its characters didn't have the balls to defend themselves against so-called "innocents."

Kids with Guns
ZegMaarJus28 December 2023
Warning: Spoilers
This Episode begins with Rose, Spears, Lance and Ryan, they are entering a school together. Rose tells the group that the school is empty. Rose sees a child at the school, he is a refugee. Rose and Ryan see dead people in the shower, they got freaked out because of that. Rose got reunited with Spears. Ryan got captured by the Leader. Ryan got shot by the refugee child. Ryan turned into a zombie after his death. Rose and Spears escaped from the school. Solid Episode of Black Summer Season 1, this was just Solid. Nothing special about it to be honest. The entire storyline has still not been formed!

Thought the episode ok
Cuddles10019 May 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Not quite sure why people hate this episode quite so much! Yeh there is a fair of stupidity in the characters and the I'm not even quite sure why they were in the school! But thought it was quite entertaining all in all thought the feral children aspect was pretty creepy! Maybe im being optimistic but I'm hoping they have a plan and are going to tie these things together at some point! I mean some people liked the previous episode but not this one I thought that one was more far fetched being chased of the road for what gas? When there's hundreds of cars all over the place and by the look of the landscape more people were evacuated quickly so there must be loads about!

Ridiculously Stupid
gbkimberley12 April 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Netflix just loves throwing money away on utter garbage and this is no exception. From the main characters choosing a school music room full of drums to quietly hide out in, to the 'Lord of the Flies' feral school kids scenario, this is the dumbest thing you'll watch all year.

Such a waste...
sosevh28 August 2019
The first episode was great and realistic. Yes! Minor flaws here and there, but nonetheless a great episode. The second episode had mistakes that I wouldn't mind to pass in order to keep watching this series. But after this episode there is simply an unacceptable flow cr*p, with episodes full of very st*pid decisions and illogical scenarios that just ruins the entire season. Be warned!

Such poor writing skills
desley_devries14 April 2019
This genre has so much potential. Somehow, show writers always manage to mess it up. This episode was so poorly written. Abram Cox, the writer needs to find a new job.

Didn't Make Sense To Me
mmoon-237633 July 2019
Warning: Spoilers
This episode just really didn't make sense to me. First the premise of these kids somehow controlling an entire school building, and what looks like making traps for people and robbing them. Pretty sure I saw they had a huge stockpile built up and it looked like kids were sorting through it. I'm not sure how long this is after this zombie apocalypse started, but seems it would take a while for children to get to this point of insanity. Unless for some reason the show makers were trying to make a social comment on today's youths? I don't know.

Also, I know this has been mentioned in other reviews, but how does Spears not realize he needs a head shot to kill the zombie? Of course, maybe he is trying, I'm guessing it's hard to hit a head sized target that is moving while also running around.

But, overall this episode just made me scratch my head and wonder where it came from.

Warning: Spoilers
Reminder to myself: If you ever happen to find yourself in a a zombie apocalypse go and find yourself a stupid person who shoots worse than Clone Soldiers and depend on him/her to protect you and your group. The guy literally wasted all his ammo on a single zombie. And I'm not even talking about those kids. What a waste of good potential.

Awful episode, ruined the series for me. Warning: Spoilers
The children of the corn angle is just cliche and dumb. This episode really ruined of the series for me the whole episode is nonsensical from beginning to end.

Let's go in the school. Lets tap on the drum. Lets split up. Lets chase the kids. Lets give the kids a gun. Oh were locked in better not just go out the hundreds of windows. it's obviously a trap better stay and not just leave.

Was a fun series but damn this is a dumb episode.

Old school?
kbimadod20 June 2021
Warning: Spoilers
What the hell was this episode? The first two was okay, it showed the "fresh" chaos. It's been only a few weeks since it all happened, but those kids already the kings of the hill. How? And more importantly: why?

I don't like when a show doesn't respect their audience, steals ideas and makes up random things. Don't do this mysterious hiding kid, smart kid stuff or when youn hide something from the camera for 5 seconds and show the shocking face of the character. "Ohh what that might be" I wonder. Dead bodies... what else in a zombie show.

a merciless insult to human intellect
johnnyhhopper14 April 2021
So if you are next to a guy being obviously shocked in fear by what he saw. The first thing you do is asking him if he is already, rather then to check out whats out there scares him. In an zombie apocalypse...

10/10 I couldn't think of a better way to insult the audience.

I don't know what the producers were thinking. The blonde lady was such a dumb idiot. This entire episode was so bad that I made an account to give it one star. Spent the entire time hoping she would die.
