On making a satire about the biggest mass murderers in history
SimonJack11 February 2019
This is a short special documentary that accompanies the DVD release of the movie, "The Death of Stalin." It has the usual interviews with clips from the movie.

Those interviewed were some of the actors, writers and the director. Armando Iannucci directed the film and also was one of the co-writers of the screenplay. Co-writer David Schneider said that they didn't want to write it as a comedy because these men had murdered millions of people. So, they didn't want to trivialize that.

The actors interviewed said that Iannucci was a superb director. He told the cast to play it straight. They weren't to try to be funny or play for comedy. In playing it straight, the satire will come out. So, that's what they did. Among those interviewed are Simon Russell Beale who plays Lavrenti Beria. Michael Palin also was interviewed. He played Vyacheslav Molotov.

This is an interesting documentary. Those who like history or the making of films and casting, should enjoy "Dictators, Murderers and Comrades... Oh My!"
