Family Reunion

Warning: Spoilers
In episode 2, the plot thickens with the mysterious appearance of "Valerie," who claims to be Em's birth mother. Em takes the woman to her apartment, where she shows signs of paranoia, believing that she is being followed. Or, is she telling the truth?

Special Agent Julianne Gunnarsen firmly believes that the gas attack was committed by a lone wolf, as opposed to groups. But she is in effect overruled by the other FBI agents, who waste time in arresting a suspect that Gunnarsen also believes is not the perp. One clue left behind at the crime scene was a unique bit socket that Nick is tracing and narrowing down hardware stores in New England.

The best scene in this episode was the nicely scored sequence where Em visits Mercy hospital to track down the records that may authenticate Valerie's story about being given bad drugs at the hospital. The camera angles are interesting as Em winds her way through the hospital halls. But the file she discovers appears to be a routine treatment for diabetes.

When Em returns home, she discovers that young Flynn blundered in on Val and a tussle ensued. Em decides to kick Val out of her flat. But upon visiting her dad, Em discovers that Val was indeed her birth mother. The father loses his temper because Em will not renounce the wacky Val. But the episode closes when Val is attacked in a public restroom, suggesting that she was telling the truth about her stalker.

Not enjoying this season as much

Warning: Spoilers
This episode contains potentially fatal misinformation. I can't believe they let this be aired. A type 1 diabetic showing the symptoms in this show is suffering from low blood sugar, not high. Novolog Mix 70/30 is an insulin, which would lower blood sugar even further. Any 911 operator that gave that advice would be responsible for the patient's death. Emily didn't even measure the dose, just filled the injector, probably 60 units of insulin from what it looked like. The patient would have instantly bottomed out, and would need a TON of injectable glucose administered constantly for the next 12 hours or they'd be in a coma, or more likely dead.

Warning: Spoilers
Insulin dependent diabetics, type 1, don't pass out from high blood sugar levels. They pass out from lows. So giving her that insulin would have just killed her mom.

The whole insulin/diabetic piece of the puzzle is flawed in many ways.
