The "Black Sox Scandal" refers to the 1919 World Series between Chicago White Sox and Cincinnati Reds. Eight White Sox players, including Shoeless Joe Jackson (1887-1951), were accused of taking bribes to throw the series. A 1921 jury found all players were not guilty, but they each received a lifetime ban from Major League Baseball; Joe Jackson spent the rest of his life protesting his innocence.
