Here we have the music video for the song "Feels like Summer" by Donald Glovers alter ego Childish Gambino. It is a pretty recent release from 2018 and this was not a big success charts-wise unlike Gambino's "This Is America" for example. But it is a slightly better artistic achievement in my opinion than the very overrated and for-the-sake-of-it latter song I just mentioned. This one here runs for under 5 minutes and is entirely animated from start to finish with Gambino's animated self walking down the street listening to music and at the same time paying a tribute to the most influential African American music artists from the last decade(s). I will spare you the names here, you can find these on enough other places really. As for this one here, I don't think it is bad, but as a whole it is also not good enough for a positive recommendation. The song is mellow at times and sounds catchy, but it feels pretty empty lyrics-wise and there also is not much of a connection to the music video. Still I think it is better to watch the video than only listen to the song. Glover is also one of the directors here and he gor help from a fairly experienced animation filmmaker, who has worked mostly on the small screen now. Characters don't look bad honestly and I am sure everybody included in here is somewhat honored. There is some style to this short no denying. But there just isn't enough substance or story or depth. Not recommended.
