Bless This Mess star Dax Shepard, Ballers’ Rob Corddry and and motoring journalist Jethro Bovingdon have signed on to host the U.S. reboot of Top Gear for Discovery’s MotorTrend.
The series will launch on the subscription streaming service in spring 2020 after Discovery struck a deal with BBC Studios earlier this year.

The international TV business convened in Cannes this week for Mipcom, the biggest television market of the year and a firm date on the calendar for distributors and acquisitions execs. Although no one title emerged as this year’s standout, there were deals aplenty on the ground.
Here are some of the most eye-catching:
– Pathé has teamed with Vendôme Group to co-produce a miniseries retelling the story of last April’s devastating fire at the Notre-Dame cathedral in Paris. The companies are co-developing the project with U.K.-based Moonriver TV.
– British entertainment channel E4 acquired three U.S. scripted series: NBC’s upcoming musical dramedy “Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist” from Lionsgate, and CBS shows “Man With a Plan” and “Star Trek: Discovery.”
– PBS Masterpiece has boarded the remake of classic European detective series “Van der Valk”, which is being produced by Company Pictures and Nl Film & TV. All...

Endeavor Content has closed a co-production deal for Glassman Media’s hit gameshow “Spin the Wheel” with France’s leading commercial network, TF1.
The deal marks the first major international primetime commission for the show. Production is set to start in early 2020 and TF1 will air it on primetime. Glassman Media will be building an international hub with local producers in key territories throughout Europe.
Hosted by Dax Shepard, “Spin the Wheel” aired on Fox earlier this year and became the network’s number one new non-scripted summer series, according to Endeavour Content which reps international sales and negotiated the deal with TF1.
“Spin The Wheel” is executive produced by Justin Timberlake, Rick Yorn, Johnny Wright and Glassman Media’s Jessica Otazua, Aaron Long, Quintin Strack and Andrew Glassman.
The show sees contestants compete for up to $20 million per episode by spinning a colossal 40-foot wheel while answering pop trivia questions.

Mipcom – the largest international TV market – is changing fast and buyers and sellers are figuring out how to respond to the ever-shifting global landscape.
The corporate consolidation that has been the talk of the Croisette for the last few years has started to have a real-world impact on the distribution business, while the evolution of the streaming services means there are more complex negotiations taking places than ever before. Then there is the changing face of the market itself, which is now a separate market to its April sibling Mip TV.
Comcast’s NBC Universal Global Distribution has finally subsumed Catherine The Great distributor Sky Vision, Disney has brought 20th Century Fox Television Distribution into its beachside tent, while this market is likely to be one of the last where CBS Studios International and Viacom International Media Networks have separate booths and teams.

Exclusive: Endeavor Content is making a move in the unscripted TV space with the acquisition of Andrew Glassman’s Los Angeles-based production company Glassman Media. The company behind such non-scripted series as The Wall and Spin the Wheel, will continue to operate independently, with founder and President Andrew Glassman remaining in his role overseeing the company.
No financial details are being revealed but sources are pegging the value of the deal at more than $60 million. The pact was negotiated before Endeavor Content parent Endeavor’s push for an Ipo last month, which the company ultimately shelved.
“Andrew has created hit after hit of non-scripted series that have a unique ability to connect with audiences around the world,” said Endeavor Content Co-Presidents Chris Rice and Graham Taylor. “We are excited to partner with Andrew and see what innovative concept he comes up with next.”

After exiting Fox in the wake of the Disney takeover, Prentiss Fraser is heading to Endeavor Content to be its executive vice president for international TV sales. The move sees Endeavor’s TV distribution business relocate from L.A. to London, where Fraser is based. U.S.-based Gary Marenzi is exiting the business.
Fraser will be in post in October, in time for Mipcom, the biggest international TV market of the year. She will report to company co-presidents Chris Rice and Graham Taylor.
“As a leading executive in the international television space, Prentiss brings a wealth of experience and dynamic perspective to our team,” Rice and Taylor said. “The global television business is bigger than ever before, and we are looking forward to Prentiss’ leadership as we expand our services for our partners in this area.”
Fraser headed the Fox Networks Group Content Distribution unit before leaving earlier this year.

NBC Sports Network and ESPN across Latin America are among the broadcasters to have picked up Endeavor Content’s The Story of Rugby ahead of the Rugby World Cup later this month.

Suddenly, Beverly Hills, 90210 isn’t the hottest zip code in Los Angeles. Fox’s “BH90210” has suffered the steepest “live” TV ratings drop — down 60% from series premiere to last week’s penultimate episode — of all summer shows on broadcast.
Back on Aug. 7, “BH90210” debuted to a strong 1.5 rating among adults 18-49, the most-coveted demographic among advertisers on entertainment programming. Last week, in the fifth episode of its summer run, “BH90210” fell all the way to a 0.6 rating in the main demo. Between those two episodes there was a 1.0 (adjusted up from a 0.9), 0.8 and 0.7, in order, according to Nielsen’s Live + Same Day ratings metric.
All other summer series — including returning shows — across CBS, NBC, Fox, ABC and The CW have retained at least 50% of their “live” premiere ratings to-date.

ESPN debuted a horrible new yellow down-and-distance graphic Monday night during the first game of its “Monday Night Football” double-header, making fans think there was a penalty flag thrown on every play.
To its credit, ESPN listened to fan feedback and changed the confusing look in time for the second half of its Houston Texans vs. New Orleans Saints game.
Here is how the graphic initially appeared:
Dear ESPN, please stop using yellow in your Monday Night Football down-and-distance graphic: https://t.co/htLlQOUdvL pic.twitter.com/y2I3nc54Dv
— Deadspin (@Deadspin) September 10, 2019
That neon yellow color, which ESPN calls “venom,” along with its specific screen location and the way the graphic wipes across the right-hand box in your screen’s lower-third, played tricks on the eyes of fans.
For what it’s worth, when there was an actual penalty called on the field, the box would change to say “Flag” instead.

The New England Patriots ruined the Pittsburgh Steelers’ Sunday night — but not NBC’s. Despite a totally one-sided “Sunday Night Football” opener — Patriots 33, Steelers 3 — NBC dominated its broadcast TV competition in last night’s Nielsen ratings.
Due to the nature of live sports, the below fast-national numbers for NBC and Fox should be considered unstable and subject to significant adjustment. Any changes won’t change who won the evening, however.
According to Nielsen’s earlier-available overnight ratings, which cover a smaller smattering of markets but are adjusted for time zones, NBC’s “Sunday Night Football” opener performed 3% better than last year.

Last Monday’s “Bachelor in Paradise” has officially caught up with the following evening’s “America’s Got Talent,” thanks to delayed-viewing TV ratings. Those two unscripted broadcast competitions now boast a 1.6 rating each among adults 18-49, the most-coveted demographic for advertisers on entertainment programming, according to Nielsen’s Live + 3 Day measurement. Inclusive of the 72 hours following their respective telecasts, “Agt” nearly doubles “Bachelor in Paradise” in total viewers, with 10.5 million compared with 5.6 million. With each passing TV season, appointment viewing feels like more and more of a relic from a simpler time — one with no DVRs or streaming services. Nielsen’s Live + Same Day ratings, still reported each day by TheWrap and other publications, no longer tell the full story of an episode’s success — or its lack thereof. Welcome to the future. Update, 12:47 Pm: The NFL’s 100th season is officially underway and last night’s Green Bay Packers’ winning kickoff game against the Chicago Bears looks to have gotten things off on the right foot.
The match-up snagged an audience of 22.0 million for NBC from 8:23 – 11:30 Pm on Thursday. That’s up 15.7% over the viewership that last year’s Philadelphia Eagles’ victory over the Atlanta Falcons scored in last year’s season kickoff game.
In fact, similar to the results of the metered market numbers earlier this morning, the start of the 2019/2020 NFL season is the most watched opener since the 2016 kickoff and the most watched sporting event in America since the New England Patriots’ winning Super Bowl Liii back in February.

Due to the nature of live television, the below fast-national Nielsen numbers should be considered subject to significant adjustment when the final ratings come in later Friday.
CBS won the night in total viewers with 3.9 million, while NBC took the crown among the adults 18-49 demo (0.8 rating/4 share). CBS and Fox split for second in the demo with a 0.7/4 each. ABC tied with Telemundo for fourth in the demo and total viewers with a 0.4/2, though ABC came out on top with 2.3 million viewers, compared to the Spanish-language network’s 1.01 million.

Updated with final numbers: As expected, all of broadcasters’ primetime shows took a hit Thursday thanks to a slew of NFL preseason games in local markets. CBS’ Big Brother remained the night’s top-rated and most-watched program, but saw a downward adjustment of three tenths of a ratings point in the key adults 18-49 demo. All viewership totals were also adjusted accordingly, per Nielsen.
Among other fresh shows, ABC saw dips of six tenths for Holey Moley and Family Food Fight, and five tenths for Reef Break. Fox’s duo of MasterChef and Spin the Wheel both adjusted down five tenths, with the former winning the 8 Pm slot in the demo but falling behind a Big Bang Theory repeat in viewers in the hour, and the latter leapfrogging Hollywood Game Night repeat to finish No. 2 at 9 Pm.
CBS’ Elementary dipped two tenths but leapfrogged its 10 Pm competition to win the time slot.

This past midseason, Fox launched two high-profile new reality competition series, The Masked Singer and Mental Samurai. While the former became a breakout hit and a pop culture phenom, earning a quick renewal and a spot on the network’s fall schedule, the future of Mental Samurai, hosted by Rob Lowe, is still Tbd.
“We looking at it now,” Fox Alternative President Rob Wade told Deadline at TCA. “It is a show I am proud of, Rob Lowe was great. We are considering what to do with it now.”
The fact that Fox brass waited to make a renewal decision on the game show might have helped its chances.
“When the show launched, we looked at the ratings and they were Ok; it didn’t overperform, but we were proud of what we didm: he said. “As summer came and we saw how shows performed on all networks, it was...

The NFL returned to primetime Thursday with the league’s annual preseason Hall of Fame Game on NBC, which drew a leading 1.4 rating in the adults 18-49 demographic and 4.99 million viewers. It scored an easy win overall for the network on a night the CW aired its second series finale this week in iZombie and CBS its reality juggernaut Big Brother.

Everything is awesome over at Fox: The network has handed a series order to Lego Masters, a Lego-building competition that counts Brad Pitt among its producers, TVLine has learned.
Based on the UK format of the same name, Lego Masters pits 12 pairs against each other in a series of block-building challenges. In each episode, one pair will advance to the next round, before the top three teams meet in the finale and compete for the ultimate Lego trophy. The series hails from Endemol Shine North America (which produces Fox’s The Masked Singer and MasterChef franchise) and Pitt’s Plan B.

We’ve got questions, and you’ve (maybe) got answers! With another week of TV gone by, we’re lobbing queries left and right about shows including Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Euphoria, BH90210 and Younger!
1 | Gee, could Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. have shown us any less of Tahiti? (The camera stayed so tight, all we would get was the hint of palm branches in the background!) Or did they simply not want to splurge on green-screen?
2 | Which other Beverly Hills, 90210 vet(s) would you like to see in the “revival”? (We know it’s never gonna happen,...

ABC rolled out its Thursday summer competition lineup last night, with the mini-golf hybrid Holey Moley scoring primetime’s top rating in its debut. That result edged out Fox’s premiere of Spin the Wheel at 9 Pm, though that bow teamed with MasterChef gave the network the nightly win in the demo.
CBS, which after repeats of The Big Bang Theory and Young Sheldon aired back-to-back new episodes of Life in Pieces and Elementary, won the night overall in total viewers.
Young Sheldon sneaked past Holey Moley for the night’s most watched show. Still, the ABC offering scored the network’s best summertime number at 8 Pm with regular programming in four years, and its best summer series debut overall since...

Stephen Curry may have lost this year’s NBA Finals, but the Golden State Warriors star did find a consolation victory in last night’s ratings.
“Holey Moley,” the mini golf competition series featuring and executive produced by Curry, premiered to a solid 1.0 rating in the key 18-49 demographic, coming out on top of an otherwise quiet Thursday night.
The new ABC series beat out “Masterchef” (0.7) on Fox and re-runs of “The Wall” (0.5) and “Big Bang Theory” (0.7) on NBC and CBS in the 8 p.m. timeslot. However, “Holey Moley” did narrowly lose out to the “Big Bang Theory” in terms of total viewership, with the former bringing in 4.82 million viewers to the latter’s 4.84.
ABC came second to Fox in the overall ratings for the night, as the Curry-centric evening fell off a little when “Family Food Fight,” starring Ayesha Curry, premiered to a 0.6 rating and only 2.9 million total viewers at 9 p.

Holy Moly: ABC’s “Holey Moley” series premiere was Thursday’s No. 1 show on broadcast. Fox’s start for the Dax Shepherd-hosted “Spin the Wheel” was No. 2.
Unfortunately for ABC, debuts for “Family Food Fight” and “Reef Break” dragged down the network’s primetime averages. Fox, which doesn’t air national programming in the 10 o’clock hour, was actually the top-rated net among adults 18-49 last night.
CBS finished first in total viewers on Thursday.

Fox was first in ratings with a 0.8 rating/4 share in the advertiser-coveted 18-49 demographic and third in total viewers with an average of 3.1 million, according to preliminary numbers. “MasterChef” at 8 p.m. had a 0.7/4 and 2.8 million viewers. At 9, “Spin the Wheel” started to a 0.8/4 and 3.4 million viewers.
ABC was second in ratings with a 0.7/4 and second in viewers with 3.5 million.

Stephen Curry didn't win a fourth NBA title with the Golden State Warriors, but as a consolation prize, the ABC show he executive produces got off to a solid start Thursday.
Holey Moley, Curry's extreme miniature golf competition, delivered a 1.0 rating in adults 18-49 — the best of the night on the broadcast networks — and 4.82 million viewers (virtually tied with a Big Bang Theory rerun at 4.84 million for No. 1). That's was the best performance for a regular ABC summer program in the time period since 2015, the network says.
