The first Brazilian drama featuring creatures of the Brazilian mythology not directed to children or having family appeal. The myths are famously part of the Pirlimpimpim (2001) franchise, and also inspired characters in The Mutants: Ways of the Heart (2008).
The mythological Curupira is typically represented by a boy with the hair on fire and backward feet, making him walk backwards. In the series he quit living in the jungle and lives homeless in the streets of the city as the character Iberê, always drunk and in a wheelchair. The wheelchair was a smart choice that solves the problem of how no one realizes he walks differently.
Alessandra Negrini plays the character of Cuca, a Brazilian mythical witch also described as having a monstrous alligator appearance. The version made famous by the Pirlimpimpim (2001) franchise (based on the works of author Monteiro Lobato) became worldwide famous on the Internet as the "Alligator Lady".
Jessica Córes learned to swim to portray the mythical mermaid Iara, stating she "could not lose the character". She chose the stage name of Córes after a Spanish river that disappeared.
Isac, the character that represents the mythological Saci-Pererê, is a version of the name Isaac, changed to be an anagram of Saci. Coincidentaly, the version made famous by the Pirlimpimpim (2001) series was portrayed by actor Izak Dahora.
