- TriviaKevin Neece's friends weren't so much angry about him venting into a cartoon. They were angry because he originally used the girl's name at the end of it and took it to the local news, dragging them all into it. Some people just don't want to be outed or forced to deal with this issue, and simply need the private help and support of their friends in their own way. Kevin tried to give the cartoon short to the manager of the comedy club without telling her what was on the dvd to see for himself how they reacted. Without even knowing what the dvd was, the manager was scared out of her mind, telling Kevin that it was her last night as she was resigning. Kevin never heard back about a resolution of this issue, but if the girl in question should ever find herself reading this, he hopes that she's okay and found the help that she needed.
- Quotes
Keiichi Morisato: Doctor What... what are you doing here today?
Doctor What: Well, that's what I'd like to talk about. You see, today is a special episode of Bad Goddess. It's one of those episodes that happens to be based on real life.
Skuld: Oh, wow, those are the best ones.
Doctor What: Well, as everyone on this show used to say, Doctor What doesn't fight the Daleks. Doctor What fights real life, and believe me, that fucking sucks.
Keiichi Morisato: Okay Doctor What, so what is today's life lesson about?
Doctor What: Well, today's moral story is about a subject that's "near and dear" to everyone's hearts. Today's Moral Story is about SEXUAL ASSAULT.
Skuld: Wait, what? But- but- you couldn't seriously be thinking about making fun of sexual assault on a children's cartoon!
Doctor What: Oh believe me Skuld, it's no laughing matter. This story of sexual assault isn't a comedy skit. This is a story that actually happened. Now, don't freak out people, we're not naming names. We don't have the full details to name names to begin with.
Keiichi Morisato: Well, what happened?
Doctor What: Kevin from the Other Dimension was shocked last night to see one of his new actresses reaching out to everyone on the internet about an incident that happened to her a few months ago. Apparently, one of her improv comedian friends at a local comedy club sexually assaulted her and when she took it to the management, all they did was "give him a good talking to", and then they let him continue to work at the club. And the worst part of all, is it now appears that she wasn't the only victim. There were others that were silenced from speaking out.
Keiichi Morisato: Uh, you mean "allegedly" sexually assaulted, right?
Doctor What: No, Keiichi, that's what the police and the local news stations say to protect them from lawsuits. If you ever use the word "allegedly" on this show again in that manner, I'll shank you in the face with a fucking screwdriver.
Skuld: But how do you know she's telling the truth?
Doctor What: That's a good question. Notice how you immediately jumped to that conclusion without hearing any of the facts. Has anybody ever stopped to think about that? Every sexual assault victim that's ever lived has heard that thrown into her face when she's tried to go to the police, and they demand terrible details. It happens so often, it's like it's automatic in our subconsciousness.
Skuld: But what can we do about this? What can we do to make her feel better?
Doctor What: There's nothing that you can do. Nothing can ever undo a sexual assault.
Keiichi Morisato: I know what we could do. Since she can't fix her situation with the police... we could send her well wishes and wishful thinking. That always works.
Doctor What: No, that's what all of her friends are doing right now. None of them relate to her problem, and all of them think that it's up to somebody else to make things happen. They've all given up before they've even started.
Skuld: I've got it! We could take it to the Local News!
Doctor What: You need a police report to take a story like this to the local news, and it sounds like she doesn't have one. By trying to settle the matter with her superiors first, they tricked her into holding off to protect their scumbag rapist friend, so now it's her word against his.
Skuld: But there has to be something that we can do. I know, we could try to confront them at one of their comedy events and record it all on an iphone.
Doctor What: Nope. That's inadmissable as evidence.
Keiichi Morisato: We could self sacrifice ourselves and burn the building down to get ourselves arrested and draw attention to the issue on the news. They love disaster stories.
Doctor What: No, Keiichi. Violence is not the way. VIOLENCE IS NEVER THE WAY.
Skuld: But, then her situation is hopeless. If your story is correct, then this was not some untouchable politician, or a-list hollywood actor that committed the crime. This was a scumbag, lowlife, worthless, dickless, improv comedian. If we can't get his sorry ass thrown in jail, then what is the point of rape laws at all? It's as if they're completely worthless and just appear in the books for show.
Doctor What: Yeah, that's the entertainment industry for you. You see that peccadillo that's been going on in the news about all of the producers being called out for sexual indecency? None of those Hollywood people really give a fuck about that. They just pretend to care because it's the media fad of the week. As if we didn't really know that Harvey Weinstein was misusing his producer status to get actresses to fuck him.
Keiichi Morisato: But this is the time to strike back. Everyone in the industry is getting outed in the media... The time to strike is now.
Doctor What: But Keiichi, don't you see, those incidents that are making the news only pertain to famous people that gather everyone's interest. It is literally the fad of the week. But this isn't just a problem that exists to just the top hollywood actresses. This problem exists for everyone at the bottom of the industry, too. Even actresses making iphone documentaries for youtube, or comedians performing in nothing comedy clubs. You all pretend to care because it's in the media, but if it happens to a friend of yours in your own backyard, suddenly you feel somewhat compelled to stay out of it.
Skuld: Yeah, but why would Kevin from the Other Dimension be so concerned about it?
Doctor What: BECAUSE IT HAPPENED TO AN ACTRESS THAT WAS IN ONE OF HIS MOVIES! IF HE SITS BACK AND DOES NOTHING LIKE EVERYONE ELSE, THAT MAKES HIM JUST AS GUILTY OF IGNORING HER CRIES FOR HELP AS THE OTHERS! HAVE YOU WATCHED MERRY KILLMAS 2? THAT GIRL WAS HIGHLY TALENTED AT IMPROV! SHE WAS A NATURAL! HOW SCARED DO YOU THINK THAT MAKES HER TO TRUST HER CO-WORKERS AGAIN?
Keiichi Morisato: So, he goes out and exploits her cause for a fucking cartoon show? That's pretty heartless...
Doctor What: No, you idiot, he did what everyone else should have done from the beginning. He tried to contact the police and the local news to see if he could give her a push in the right direction.
Keiichi Morisato: Yeah, but did it work?
Doctor What: No, when he told her what he had done, she flipped out and blocked his ass. One minute, she was crying for help and complaining that nobody was really listening, and nothing was really getting results. But when he tried to legitimately do something about it, she panicked. And why wouldn't she? Nobody wants to be exploited for the worst moment of their life on the news.
Skuld: So, why make a cartoon? Isn't that just as exploitive?
Doctor What: Because nothing else works, that's why. If he makes the fucking cartoon, there's a slight chance he can get youtube to advertise it and get people to watch it. Provided it doesn't get rejected for adult themes. Hearsay and wishful condolences are momentary. BUT SATIRE IS FOREVER.
Keiichi Morisato: I don't know, that sounds like it could backfire on him.
Doctor What: Keiichi... that's the very point I'm trying to make. Who cares if it backfires on him. What is he trying to hold onto so badly? He has no career, he can't get a job, most of his friends already hate him. If everyone is afraid to speak the truth, then let him be the one to say it. He can handle the backlash. If you sit back in silence while someone else is being harmed, out of fear for your own personal safety, then you don't deserve that safety.
Skuld: Before we go... I just want to know one last thing. If you don't have the name of the rapist, then who are you trying to hold at fault? Who is the real perpetrator?
Doctor What: Oh, that's easy... IT'S THIS MOTHERFUCKER!
