In the war of words between Kendrick Lamar and Drake, creators are the true winners. Commentators and streamers who have reacted to the feud have raked in revenue thanks to the rappers’ decision to release copyright claims on their respective diss tracks.
What began as a clash between rap heavyweights Lamar, Drake, and J. Cole has evolved into an intense beef co-starring the favorite sons of Compton and Toronto. Lamar and Drake have exchanged several rounds of highly personal diss tracks, all of which have racked up millions of plays on platforms like YouTube and Spotify. Lamar’s “Euphoria” has become a particularly big hit, collecting more than nine million Spotify streams in a single day.

Sydney Sweeney has been cast as boxer Christy Martin in a new biopic. The 26-year-old 'Euphoria' actress - who has recently appeared in the likes of 'Anyone But You' and 'Immaculate' - is once again switching directions as she takes on the role of a boxing trailblazer described by producers as the "female Rocky".Sweeney told Deadline: "Christy Martin not only legitimized female boxing, she overcame gender stereotypes, and fought through emotional, physical, and financial abuse."I’m passionate about the fighting world, Christy’s story shines a light on her incredible rise to the top while showing the struggles of fame behind the curtains."I feel compelled to tell a story about a woman who faced so much adversity and didn’t allow it to defeat her. It’s powerful, and emotional.”The 'White Lotus' star is no stranger to boxing and Mma,...

Sydney Sweeney is getting in the ring.
The breakout from, well, basically everything she’s done lately is set to play boxer Christy Martin in an upcoming biopic directed by David Michôd (“Animal Kingdom”). Insert your own joke here about being a knockout. The script for the untitled project was written by Mirrah Foulkes and Michôd.
Martin was the most successful female boxer of the 1990s. She signed with Don King and is the only female boxer to appear on the cover of Sports Illustrated. Martin became welterweight champion — but that was about the end of the good things in her life. Christy was physically abused by husband Jim Martin, who was eventually convicted of attempted second-degree murder with a firearm and sentenced to 25 years in prison. Christy Martin’s life is documented in “Untold,” the excellent series of documentaries by Chaplain and Maclain Way. Her episode is subtitled “Deal with the Devil,...

Exclusive: The in-demand Sydney Sweeney, coming off hit rom-com Anyone But You and horror pic Immaculate, is shifting gears again as she is set to portray trailblazing boxer Christy Martin in a new biopic which could be a knockout for buyers at the Cannes market where Black Bear will be launching.
Under the direction of Oz filmmaker David Michôd, known for visceral movies such as Animal Kingdom and The King, the currently untitled project will chart the true story of Martin’s rise to become America’s most well known female boxer in the 1990s — the “female Rocky” in the words of the film’s producers. A naturally gifted fighter, her life transformed in 1989 when she met her manager, and later husband, Jim Martin. Breaking boundaries, she became the first woman to sign with iconic promoter Don King, and the only female boxer to appear on the cover of Sports Illustrated.

It’s hardly unusual for TV journalists to spend time at the movies, but never has a weekend of festival programming seemed so tailor-made for us. The Chicago Critics Film Festival kicked off its 11th edition with a lineup that was fairly bursting with small-screen talent and resonance.
Opening night on May 3 saw the Chicago premiere of Sing Sing, which stars Colman Domingo, who had already reinvigorated The Walking Dead franchise before winning an Emmy for his role in Euphoria. Elsewhere, his co-star Hunter Schafer, one of Euphoria’s many breakouts, gave a gorgeously wounded performance in Cuckoo, a new horror-thriller from Tilman Singer.

Anya Taylor-Joy makes a very brief appearance in Dune: Part Two, but if and when Denis Villeneuve returns to helm his adaptation of Dune: Messiah, the Furiosa star will have a much more substantial role.
If you haven't seen the movie yet, spoilers follow.
In Part One, we learn that Paul Atreides' mother, the Bene Gesserit Lady Jessica, is pregnant with the late Duke Leto's child. When the Fremen take in the survivors of the Harkonnen massacre, Jessica agrees to become the tribe's new Reverend Mother (she isn't really given a choice) and is "persuaded" to drink the Water of Life (a blue substance that's been extracted from a juvenile sandworm).
This gives Jessica incredible foresight and knowledge of previous generations, while also awakening similar abilities in her unborn daughter, who begins to communicate with and seemingly influence her mother's actions.

When Drake and Kendrick Lamar decided to go at each other, we knew that there was a chance for low blows; we just didn’t know we’d end up subterranean. The four tracks they exchanged on May 3 and 4 — Kendrick’s “Meet the Grahams” and “Not Like Us,” as well as Drake’s “Family Matters” and “The Heart Pt. 6” — have taken their rift into a dark place. Drake is calling Kendrick a domestic abuser, and Kendrick is calling Drake a pedophile. Now, we’re wondering how a war that was...

Following constant subtle shots, the feud reignited with Lamar’s aggressive verses on his various tracks, including Like That and Euphoria, prompting a back-and-forth rap battle between the two.

Both on the awards circuit and in the public consciousness, HBO is widely regarded as among the first Hollywood heavyweights to recognize that television, as a medium, had the power to deliver sprawling, large scale stories on a smaller screen. From HBO’s ascent in the late 1990s through its dragon-aided roar across the 2010s, the network’s original series tackled universal stories, stretching across continents and decades.

From nuns and handmaids to webslingers and oversexualized teens, Sydney Sweeney has done a fantastic job in her decade and a half of acting.
While she has been dubbed a sex symbol, that title doesn't even begin to define the actress's range of skill when it comes to dramatic roles.
Having amassed 22 awards nominations and securing three wins, primarily for her breakout role in Euphoria, the actress has become a mainstay in the entertainment industry.
Though she's been acting since 2009, it wasn't until recently that she started blowing up the news circuits with her career-defining performances.
One thing that can be said about the actress is that she takes every opportunity to elevate her characters as far as possible.
Here, we've assembled a set of Sweeney's most notable television and film roles. From comedy to horror to gritty drama, the actress is not limiting her role choices.

We know Kendrick Lamar and Drake will throw more shots, levy more seedy allegations, and might even drop more all-out diss songs from here. But the bulk of the war has been fought, and the crown goes to Compton. In hindsight, the way Drake poked the bear with Instagram Stories provocations and his “Taylor Made” freestyle seems masochistic. Over the past week, Lamar hit Drake with a relentless volley of diss songs that comprehensively dismantled his opponent’s character and, with “Not Like Us,” may make him the punchline of the summer.

What is the world of rap without feuds? Well, the music world is on fire as of late, as Drake and Kendrick Lamar have spent the better part of the last month and a half throwing diss tracks at one another in a constant stream. That’s right, we now have a Pulitzer Prize winner in a rap war…Damn.
Drake and Kendrick Lamar have been going at it for over a decade at this point. Looks like meat's back on the menu, boys. Unfortunately, that comes at the expense of the main group of kidnappers/mercenaries who have absolutely no idea what they just got themselves into. The directing duo of Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett (also known as Radio Silence) unleashed a hellish feast for the senses earlier this year thanks to their horror flick with a twist, "Abigail." Because of the wonders of marketing, of course, we found out long before our doomed lead characters that the innocent-looking child they've chosen to hold for ransom is actually a bloodthirsty vampire (Alisha Weir). And in no time at all, the full weight of their predicament dawns on them as they realize that the hunters have now become the hunted in a horrific cat-and-mouse game set at a decrepit old mansion over the course of one endless day.

As Drake and Kendrick Lamar continue to exchange diss tracks at an impressive rate, you might be wondering what exactly started this heated feud.
On Saturday (May 4), Kendrick took the beef to another level with his song “Not Like Us.” On it, he referred to his opponent as a “certified pedophile,” after proclaiming that Drake “like[s] ‘em young.”
“Not Like Us” follows a string of diss tracks that the rappers have been dropping in the last few weeks.
What’s going on? We did some digging to see what is at the root of their bad blood.
Keep reading to find out more…
Fans of Drake and Kendrick likely recall that they appeared to have at least a good working relationship in the earlier days of their career. The duo collaborated a few times starting in 2011.
In fact, Kendrick even toured with Drake.

Kendrick Lamar has been busy putting up an attack plan against Drake, and he just dropped another diss track titled Not Like Us. However, Lamar’s earlier track Meet the Grahams addressed each member of Drake’s family. The Poetic Justice singer struck a chord when he addressed a “baby girl,” suggesting that Drizzy has a secret daughter that he had been hiding from the public. Now, Drake reportedly swears on his career that Lamar’s allegations are false.
Take Care singer Drake responds to Kendrick Lamar’s allegations in new diss track
The feud between the singers kicked off when Lamar dissed J. Cole and Drake in an uncredited verse in Like That after Cole mentioned them as the “big three” in First Person Shooter. Drake responded with Push Ups, and then Lamar came up with Euphoria and 6:16 in LA. The God’s Plan singer dropped Family Matters on Friday,...

Dua Lipa is schooling Saturday Night Live on the bad blood between Kendrick Lamar and Drake.
During a local news segment sketch, the “Dance The Night Away” singer appeared as a culture critic Wanda Weems to catch audiences up to speed on all the jabs the two rappers have taken at each other in diss tracks over the past few days.
But, as it turns out, Good Morning Greenville‘s culture reporter isn’t quite so tapped in.
“One clue on the song ‘Euphoria,’ when Kendrick describes Drake as Canadian, that’s because Drake is from Toronto,” she says, stating an obvious fact about the “Hotline Bling” rapper.
She continues, “And he calls Drake ‘Crodie,’ which is a term used by the Crips, which according to Wikipedia is an alliance of street gangs based in Southern California.”
While none of her insight is much more helpful than that, things take...

The Drake-Kendrick Lamar feud has escalated this year as the two rappers went back and forth replying and one-upping each other’s diss tracks. Things have never been the same since the duo collaborated on Drake’s 2011 album Take Care, and ever since Lamar threw shade at Drake in Big Sean’s Control, the two have been feuding over the years.
Before their feud, Kendrick Lamar was a part of Drake’s 2011 album Take Care
Things intensified this year as both have now committed to destroying each other’s reputations and careers with the release of their diss tracks simultaneously. With Lamar’s Euphoria and 6:16 in LA going on a full rant mode on Drake’s activities and career, the Toronto rapper has hit back with a more personal attack in his new diss track, questioning the parentage of Lamar’s children.

Kendrick Lamar and Drake traded diss tracks Friday night in the latest salvos in the rapper’s weeks-long lyrical feud.
Following a week that saw Lamar drop both the scathing “Euphoria” and “6:16 in LA,” Drake finally responded Friday with “Family Matters,” which alleges infidelity in Lamar’s relationship. On the seven-minute track, Drake also hits back at some of the other rappers — Metro Boomin, Rick Ross, Future, A$AP Rocky, the Weeknd and more — that have provoked him lately:

Drake has released another diss track, Family Matters, in response to Kendrick Lamar’s 6:16 in LA. The Canadian rapper brutally attacks Lamar on a personal level, dragging his relationship with Whitney Alford and his fatherhood. However, it is not just Lamar who’s on the firing line this time. Drake has also dissed his other rivals in the music industry, including A$AP Rocky, The Weeknd, Metro Boomin, Future, and Rick Ross.

Drake and Kendrick Lamar have been embroiled in a bitter rivalry in the music industry for many years, during which both musicians have been critical of each other. The latter, 36, recently released a new track called Euphoria, in which he once again targeted Drake. Three days after releasing this diss track, he intensified his feud with Drake on Friday morning by releasing a second one, 6:16 in LA.
This is the latest in their long-running beef, which has gotten bigger and more intense over the past few weeks, involving other rappers.

Not one to back down, Drake is said to quickly hit back with a diss track of his own. However, that is not all—he recently shared a scene from Antoine Fuqua’s The Equalizer 2 on his social media, showcasing his lyrical skills and channeling his inner Denzel Washington in the process.

Winona Oak provides an unflinching look at the grief that she’s experienced since the death of her mother on her new EP Void.
Out Friday (May 3), the project is the latest from the Swedish songstress, who fans will recognize from her duet “Hope” with The Chainsmokers.
On it, her wistful voice and evocative lyrics are at their most heart-wrenching as she processes the loss of one of the closest people in her life to cancer.
For instance, focus track “Who Would I Be” is a soaring anthem that finds her dreaming of a chance to leave her nightmares behind in favor of a happier story. Poignant and relatable, it’s quality music with the most heart.

And round and round we go. Drake has fired back at Kendrick Lamar with a new diss track called “Family Matters.”
Over the course of the seven-minute track, Drake makes several unsubstantiated claims about Lamar, including that he physically assaulted his longtime partner, Whitney Alford. Drake also suggests that one of Lamar’s children was actually fathered by longtime producer Dave Free, and that Lamar encouraged Tupac’s estate to file a cease and desist against Drake over the diss track “Taylor Made Freestyle.”
“Family Matters” also sees Drake go after some of his other hip-hop foes, including Rick Ross, The Weeknd, A$AP Rocky, Future, and Metro Boomin.
For those keeping score, “Family Matters” marks Drake’s third diss track aimed at Lamar, following “Taylor Made Freestyle” and “Push Ups (Drop & Give Me 50).” Meanwhile, Lamar has dropped two diss tracks of his own: “euphoria” and “6:16 in LA.”

A hater’s well never runs dry, and Kendrick Lamar’s is overflowing. The rapper started this week off by letting Drake know just how much he hates him on the single “Euphoria,” released without warning on Tuesday morning. Drake knew the response was coming — in fact, he released two back-to-back singles urging Lamar to get in the booth. “Euphoria,” as it turns out, was only the beginning. On Friday morning, the rapper came back for more with another surprise release, “6:16 in LA.”

Kendrick Lamar’s Euphoria took the feud between Lamar and Drake to the next level. The six-minute diss track launches an attack on Drake’s music career, personal life, and biracial identity. It was in response to the American rapper’s earlier released song Push Ups, in which the One Dance singer mocks Lamar’s physical appearance and the quality of his songs. Interestingly, years before the current feud, Lamar and Drake had a friendly working relationship.

Luca Guadagnino believes filmgoers will endorse his Zendaya movie Challengers because it delivers “a canon of Hollywood golden age comedy – seductive fun with queerness.” The movie’s “big sell” is a shot of Zendaya, Mike Faist and Josh O’Connor kissing one another in various configurations.
Challengers is establishing itself as a Gen Z “date movie,” with a 75% female audience, mostly under the age of 24. Its high-powered social media campaign triggered a $25 million opening weekend globally, defying the pre-summer box office torpor.
The movie has also been well received by Gen Z reviewers who are faithful to their lexicon of film criticism – male characters are approvingly deemed “heteroflexible,” females “polyamorous,” etc.
It was a surprise to his fans that Guadagnino, an Italian filmmaker, set out to make an American-set sports movie (he is not a sports fan) about a tennis world to which he was alien. As with his other films,...

There are a few lines of thought surrounding the ongoing Drake v. the World rap feud that have become accepted as all but sacred facts. For one, all of this is supposedly fun. Spotify, the multi-billion-dollar business that reported a quarterly profit last week — in part, thanks to laying off 17 percent of its staff ahead of the holidays last year— rented out billboards in Times Square declaring that rap is a “competitive sport.” This was presumably their comment on the months-long saga that began with the release of Future and...

Deadline’s Most Valuable Blockbuster tournament is back. While studios during Covid wildly embraced the theatrical day-and-date model when cinemas were closed, they soon realized there’s nothing more profitable than a theatrical release and the downstreams that come with it. If anything, theatrical is the advertisement for a movie’s longevity in subsequent home entertainment windows. Entering the conversation in 2023 were the streamers, such as Apple, who have also realized the necessity of theatrical to eventize their movies. The financial data pulled together here for Deadline’s Most Valuable Blockbuster Tournament is culled by seasoned and trusted sources.

A year ago, Legendary Entertainment’s remake of the infamous 1978 box office hit Faces of Death (get it Here) went into production in Louisiana, with Barbie Ferreira of the HBO series Euphoria, Dacre Montgomery of Netflix’s Stranger Things, Josie Totah of the recent Saved by the Bell revival, Jermaine Fowler of The Blackening, and singer Charli Xcx making up the cast. We haven’t heard a release date for this one yet, but it did just take a major step forward: it has gotten its rating from the Motion Picture Association ratings board. They have announced that the Faces of Death remake has received an R rating for strong bloody violence and gore, sexual content, nudity, language and drug use.
