Better story, better dialogue, better episode
bosporan7 April 2022
A much stronger episode, the plot is now developing in interesting and entertaining ways. The dialogue is significantly superior to episode 2 (albeit from a low base), especially the fragrant Natascha McElhone who was sub-par last time. Charlie Murphy is fabulous as Makee and is given something to get her teeth into which is salient in moving the plot forward. Excellent to see more of the everyday life Master Chief does not have, framing his origins and relationship to the artefact.

On the downside, a full third of the episode is burnt on brain-swap mumbo jumbo, though it is hilarious to make an imaginary/AI woman and it can talk the back legs off a donkey!

Overall, the most absorbing and enjoyable episode to-date.

Shows gotten a whole lot more interesting
serriafudinfinity7 April 2022
Not quite sure what all the hate about the show is, but honestly I quite like the direction the shows heading at the moment and how this episode dives deeper into John's character, his inner conflicts and showing more of a "personality" to him.

A notable step up from the previous episode
psychoticblobfish7 April 2022
I enjoyed this episode a lot actually. I'm still not a huge fan of Chief being out of his armor so often and I'm not sold on Makee yet either, but I really liked Chief and Cortana's relationship and I'm much more interested in where the story is going.

Hopefully the rest of the show can maintain this level of quality.

Off with the helmet, on with the emotions and breakdowns.
ZEROspawn7 April 2022
Not only does this not feel like Halo, but they actively go in and make it worse it seems. As not only is MC a emotional wreak, but we keep seeing them make dumb moves and add stuff that makes no sense. Why can the human control worms and does Airlocks not work on human ships, and no one seems to target the little girl clearly in control of the worms... Why ?

It's like it goes from meh, to why the hell did they do that all the time. As if they don't know how to write sci-fy, but that they also want to make it clear they don't want to use anything actual made for Halo. The only things we can point to being the same is the odd name here and there, but the characters seems nothing like what we knew and loved. They are either changed physically or emotionally into something twisted and cursed.

It's clear this would have been done better if they hadn't linked it to Halo, as they then wouldn't have to be compared to better things, and would by simply virtue of being something else be judge better. But that isn't what they did so we have to compare them, and they fall short by a mile to live up to what we are use to in this universe.

Even people that know nothing about Halo actually finds this forgettable and kind meh, but even hat would be better praises than what it gets now by linked up to the Halo universe.

This isn't the Silver Timeline, it's the Lead Timeline. Slow and heavy to move on and harmful to harmful to digest because it damages your brain.

Better Than The First Two Episodes
JohnnySlayer7 April 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I think the show is finally getting it's groove, but it's slow to say the least. The changes to the lore is rather annoying. The fact that there going to do this Robocop storyline with Master Chief is just cliche at best. It's been done so many times. Ghost In The Shell tried to do the very same thing and it flopped. I was surprised on the change to Cortana's look. They must have made a VFX change to the look. She is more blue than in the trailer. Still not perfect, but I can definitely get used to it. Now getting back story on The Covenant human girl, I can say that I'm starting to feel where her character is headed and I think it was a nice edition to include the hunter worms. The scene with them was quite good, but the Kwan Ha storyline is where I'm not feeling it. To be fair she did get very little screentime this episode and I fear we are going to get a lot of her next episode instead of Master Chief. Although I can sit through all the negatives, my biggest gripe with episode and the show overall is still making Master Chief not wear his helmet. Even this episode her barely had his armor on until the end of the episode. The Mandolorian did the helmet thing far better and we rarely saw him without it. Hopefully Paramount and the writers hear the feedback and make Pablo Schreiber wear the Armor and The Helmet more during next season. Overall this episode was solid with few issues and hopefully this is a sign that the rest of the episodes are as good as this one.

The best episode of the first three by far
jjpscott018 April 2022
By far the best episode yet. I'm really starting to get into this series. It seems much more layered than I initially thought it might be. The set up from the first two episodes is starting to gel and I like where this is going.

now we are talking!

Warning: Spoilers
Finally, a great show with lots of potential.

Of course, the girl with the monsters is his sister.. that we already know.. and of course, cortana will in the end be a friend to john due to the doctor treating the AI as simply a tool..

im not sure but i also think the sister will after some seasons go to his side and fight the monsters with him..

i still do not know what the purpose of the female survivor is.. but the thing is.. the show has lots of potential!

I'm on board !
dcote-042947 April 2022
This third episode sealed the deal for me; I'm in for the this full first season of Halo!

The writing is pretty solid and the sets are very nice and the CGI top notch which kinda worries me where they'll find the money to finish this season on par visually or even think of a second season.....

Thanks Paramount and keep it coming !

Put on your helmet
hedjratkhan7 April 2022
Very good episode but I won't rate 10 stars until he finally has his helmet on.

Otherwise, the episode was very good. I like the direction the script is going. The story keeps getting more interesting and mysterious.

Ok, maybe this can be saved.

Warning: Spoilers
It started with a huge showdown, then a slow episode about stuff no one cares about, but maybe, just maybe, cortana/masterchief dynamic is what they need to make this show stand out. Still dont care about the girl, what's her name and why she wanna fight? Don't really care, i'm here for covenant-killing action and cortana being the smart, funny and lovable A. I we know and love. At least wee got a mention of the brutes, so maybe they show up in a later episode.

Emergence
bobcobb30121 April 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Well, there was certainly a funny attack scene here, but the show is just too slow-moving. I don't expect a big battle every week, but we do need something more action-packed than this.

Keep going better
kodak2557 April 2022
I really liked how they made the transition compared to the game. Something new and very welcomed for real fans. And episode 3 was really good and i didn't feel the generic vibe like prev episodes. Maybe they will nail it.

Good but
Kutalpm11 April 2022
First of all it's a good show.

I'm not am expert but something is missing to make this show great. My hypothesis is that writers are from the movie industry and not from the tv show. They don't know how get people hooked in a single episode and keep them hooked so people are interested in the next episode. Even if the show is great as a whole if you loose viewers in between it will be canceled.

Another method would be to release all episodes at once. That's why I'm not optimistic about this show.

THIS SERIES WOULD BE SO MUCH BETTER WITHOU KWAN HA
gtenalokes9 April 2022
She bores me to death.

Her story thread is moronic, pointless and she behaves like a suicidal idiot who doesn't know war, I don't know what kind of value she thinks she can add to the ''resistance".

It's getting interesting
georgvelis9 April 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Honestly i liked episode 1 but i was a bit worried after a mediocre episode 2. But this episode is stronger and you start to see the direction they are going with the story. Unfortunately John doesn't wear his helmet for the entire episode, which is fine because the actor is doing a really good job but it worries me if they intend to continue this trend for the rest of the show. That would be a waste because they have done an excellent job with the Spartan costumes.

Overall, it still has issues and room for improvement but it has potential and if it continues on this quality it will be a solid, or even really good show.

Good direction
rasmioche7 April 2022
Nicely executed episode, after episode 2's filler that was understandably necessary to introduce some storylines and characters.

I'll be brief, this is looking very good.

Is it the games story ? No And that's what i like about it.

It has the same core lore, some obvious changes for adaptation but the different timeline actually makes it interesting to see what will happen and where the story will go.

I grew up with the games, so i'd rather have games/novels/live actions and previous movies be something, and this be it's own thing that quite honestly looks like it will tur out to be a very nice series.

If only people could stop moaning and give it a chance...

The only thing i'd change in future is the no helmet/no armor thing but it's quite logical that even spartans take the gear off when they are back to base, so ... yeah maybe what is depicted is the actual normal.

Slow, slower, slowest
laubepiotr7 April 2022
I am getting bit bored with building the story and introduction of characters. I think after 3 episodes we are done here - with cortina taking over. I hope that next part will be action packed again like the 1st episode. I got tempted few times to use the remote and fast forward a bit...

Story getting more and more interesting
aniketspartan7 April 2022
Warning: Spoilers
The third episode was much more interesting than the 2nd, we got to see Makee's history and the introduction of the lekgolo was terrifying, while a bit low on the action, it was reinforced by Cortana's introduction, who looks much better in comparison to that 2 second shot we all raged at.

It's getting better and I like the direction we are going.
qjaquudw12 April 2022
If they start to follow the main events of the games / books, this could turn out to be a fantastic show, and it looks like they are going in that direction, but with their own foundation.

Cortana was the highlight of the episode
dregen-380927 April 2022
The interactions between her and Chief are fun to watch, and I'm looking forward to how their relationship develops in this timeline.

It's still a bit jarring seeing Chief without his helmet, but hearing Cortana's voice helps with that somewhat. And I'm starting to become cool with Pablo as the Chief.

The plot is starting to shape together and form something tangible. The only thing that's missing now is some real action, and I really hope we can finally see Chief back in the fight again in episode 4.

Overall much improved from episode 2 and hoping the momentum continues into next week.

Good SciFi bad Halo
jacobfuller-0363114 April 2022
The Cortana creation scene was extremely good dark SciFi. There's great elements here however not enough core Halo or action. Tired of seeing Chiefs face take a page from Mandalorian.

Excellent
rhomulas9 April 2022
Once again we see negative reviews coming from the nufftys who quite simply do not understand halo, anyone who has looked passed the games and have invested interest into books etc will understand this show is depicting the halo universe the way games don't, they have deliberately done this to make the games more action based.

This series is made for people who know nothing of halo, Don't listen to the soy boys and their uneducated reviews, watch a great show.

Put The Helmet On
brendonstrevig11 January 2024
Warning: Spoilers
It's at this point it really feels like it's not a Halo show. It's got the characters but it's ignoring a ton. They just liked the idea and wanted to make a drama. It's more Euphoria than Halo. Please put the helmet back on.

A lot of fans hate Cortana, but at least you got the voice of her. I still think you should have kept Chief's helmet on and gotten Steve Downes (the voice actor of Master Chief from the games) to voice Chief. Would have won more fans over.

This Kwan plot sucks and it's annoying. Helmet never stays on. So much drama. Race change for Miranda Keyes and Jacob Keyes. Not a big issue, but why? The Spartan silver team is cool though.

IT IS NOT THE HALO WE DESERVE, but it's the only Halo we got.
luis_rosales19842 May 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Anyone ever watch Red vs Blue?

In the last episode and this one we had to deal with the whiny rebel girl Kwan Ha, a useless and pointless character whom in the first episode said she wanted to get off her planet because there was nothing there, now she's trying to get back to it to rebuild her father's rebellion. Completely forgetting about the fact that there is a group of hostile aliens wanting to wipe out mankind. We have to deal with her excessive brat like behavior and mentality. Though she has had first-hand experience that there is an existence of an alien race out there that wants nothing more than to annihilate mankind she still cares more about the political goings-on of her planet. Her story is completely pointless and useless to the series. Completely forget about the fact that she's not canon but just from a story standpoint it is unnecessary and a waste of time. I feel like anytime we cut to her, she is just time filler. Like they ran out of ideas to fill the time in the episode.

The second story now deals with some unknown woman Who was "rescued" by the covenant as a child. For some weird reason the organization of religiously fanatical aliens who despise humanity call this one human girl "holy one?!" ...WHAT?! Well seeing the Prophet Mercy and Regret in live action is pretty cool it kind of ends there. Although this is the SECOND time we get to see the Hunters in Live-Action, Halo: Nightfall. While we don't get to see the hunters in their armor, shields, and cannons we do see them as we did in halo nightfall. But still No character in this show, not a single group acts as they do from the original source material. Except one... one saving grace from this twisted version of Halo. One blue shimmering light of hope for this series. Cortana.

While the main story follows John and the UNSC trying to unlock the secrets of the forerunners by examining "artifacts" and figuring out how to use it against the Covenant. We are introduced to the only other character as important as the Master Chief himself, the AI Cortana!

While Cortana's origins do somewhat match the source material, Halsey did use a perfect clone copy of Her Own brain to create Cortana. Her being installed permanently in the Chief is different. Cortana is meant to be able to go in and out of hardware with ease, she should be able to enter the master chief suit but not his actual body. Giving her the ability to redirect energy shields or focus shield strength on specific area of the armor as well as giving them tactical read outs and logistics during combat. Well she may not be able to go in and out of hardware like she used to it is nice to see that she still has the same "plucky" personality. And just liking the Halo game Cortana does look like Dr. Halsey.

Jen Taylor reprises her role as the sometimes sassy Artificial Intelligence Cortana. Having played the character for over a decade I am glad to see that they decided not to go with someone else as her voice. It's so nice to hear that familiar attitude and demeanor again. She is, as far, the ONLY character to act and stay true to the game. Even though the situation in the show is different from the game she still acts exactly as Cortana would. While her costume may not look exactly like the first Halo game, it can easily played off as her default look till she ages and upgrades to look more like the Cortana we know and love.

And the enjoyment of the show stops there. While it was great to see someone acting as they should be we are stuck watching master chief completely out of character again! A completely absurd and uncharacteristic Master Chief trying to recover what seem like bad childhood memories.

It's a Microsoft commercial
rgallucci9 April 2022
Still a good series but the obsequious Cortana is a dark foreshadow of Microsoft's vision of a future world. It will be interesting to see if she becomes a hero or a villain.
