Why not
treborybrad18 July 2020
After seeing so many scathing reviews I decided to watch it anyway. In covid times this movie provides light relief and a chuckle here and there. I do forgive the short comings of the film. Paul Hogan portrays a sense of sadness which revolves around the aging process and that gives the film some merit and a few bitter sweet humorous moments. Like the weaker of the Marx Brothers movies the world is a better place that they exist rather than not.

Hoges is great and Hollywood gets a jab but the co-stars flatten it.
Davey1918 July 2020
Being a long time Paul Hogan fan it was great to see him back in top form. The pokes and jabs at the Hollywood system are fun and playful when watching someone in his 80s roll his eyes at a community that is self obsessed, materialistic and clutching to keep itself alive and relevent. However for all the moments where Hoges shines, it's the woeful co-stars, particularly that of his manager, that make it so cringe worthy. Some terrible acting, terrible green screen work and strange editing make this go from a possible 8 to a so-so six.

Thank you Hoges - this one isnt your fault.

Some good ones.

The film has a slow and odd vibe, but amongst it all are a lot of outstanding laugh out loud gags and scenarios. Well worth a watch if you're a comedy fan.

Really not much there
latinfineart27 August 2020
This could have been a halfway decent movie, it could have been slightly funny, it could have been well written, it could have been well directed, it could have been entertaining. Frankly, I'm not sure what the purpose of the film was, it wasn't funny, it wasn't entertaining, it was a slightly sympathetic portrait of Hogan but what was the point really?

I can't say I recommend it, there's really not much to recommend. It was what I would call an empty suit of a film, save your time.

Embarrassing
gmickelson-9421819 July 2020
Paul Hogan is an Aussie icon and I have loved him since The Paul Hogan Show! This, however is absolute rubbish and I feel embarrassed for Paul. I can't understand why he, and the other well known Aussie actors would lower their standards by participating in this poorly thought out train wreck. I turned it off half way through not wanting to taint my opinion of such an Aussie legend. Retire gracefully Paul, you don't need to do crap like this! Disappointed

A tidal wave of mediocrity
brentqueanbeyan18 July 2020
Paul Hogan stars in this slapdash comedy where the beloved Australian icon is being awarded a knighthood for services to comedy, nominations must have closed prior to the release date. The standout performance in this 90 minute 'masterpiece' is definitely the jar of Vegemite, it's smooth ability and onscreen presence is unrivalled by it's costars. Hoges was of course in fine form and is still the loveable larrikin we know him to be.

It's actually not bad.
wmboos2 January 2021
I think more than anything else, it was a well deserved stab at the media. Both regular and social. About how something so simple, a simple mistake can be taken well out of context for a headline and engaging in schadenfreude with the outcome.

That said, it was fun. I enjoyed it. It was pretty funny at times, a bit corny at times, all too real at times. There are many more higher budgeted movies that aren't half as good. The movie is a pleasant way to spend an hour and a half with the family of an evening.

I give it 7 stars because it's not awards material. It's just good family fun.

What a sad, cringe-worthy way for Paul Hogan to go out.
Bob_Harris_UK25 July 2020
I used to admire Paul Hogan, with his TV shows, and then the Crocodile Dundee movies. I found him mostly funny and highly entertaining. But this???

This movie is filled with non-funny slapstick humour, that would barely raise a laugh with young children, let alone adults. It's cringe-worthy from the very beginning to the very end. The script is appalling, and the various scenarios enacted are worse than anything you would see in the old Black & White slapstick comedies of old.

Don't waste your time with this movie. You'll regret it.

Better Than Expected

Lots of humor at Paul's expense, cool cameos and many of the jokes are well-written and effective. I liked it. John Cleese is especially hilarious.

Typical Aussies Self Depreciating Humour
scott-6746524 July 2020
I don't know why the ratings on IMDM are so low. I though it was a great movie. Typical self depreciating humour. We don't take ourselves too seriously and we like to take the piss out of ourselves and everyone else and this was evident in this movie with some great cameo's. I really enjoyed it. Anyone GenX or older I think will have a few good laughs. I know I did . Loved it! On ya Hoges

Pretty funny movie
mnorthco-119 July 2020
Okay, Hoges is 80 now so those expecting him to be as funny in his heyday is expecting too much. That being said, this movie is still very funny because he plays the situations he's placed in well and, frankly, he's still got it in my opinion. Whoever wrote and directed this deserve praise too. Some probably don't like that the current politics is played for laughs but its hardly something that hasn't been done before, the random person the goofball stuffing up and being falsely accused, and becoming a social pariah. I laughed a lot so that's the main thing.

The very monotone Mr dundee
lisamareenewman17 July 2020
At the end of this film I was left with the feeling that there was no apparent story or plot to drive this film along. There was some funny bits and pieces from other actors. Sadly it was a drudge to watch, perhaps Paul needs to cheer up a bit and join in.

Why Bother...
tortuevelo18 July 2020
I have been a long time Hoges fan, but this movie is mediocre at best. Depressing, the only good bits are in the last 5 minutes. Definitely no Crocodile Dundee!

I Tapped out after 30 minutes
timsaunders2317 July 2020
I didn't have high hopes for this and at the time, there were no ratings or reviews on IMDB, so I though I'd check it out.

Paul Hogan plays Paul Hogan trying to resurrect his acting career. I love Hoges, but nothing even remotely amusing had happened a third of the way through this 90 minute film. Don't let the impressive cameos fool you. This is atrocious. I can't even see who this is aimed at. Kids? Adults looking for a dose of 80s nostalgia?

Please don't even bother with this.

My knife is bigger

Warning: Spoilers
Paul Hogan lives in California and gets into trouble with the media through circumstances and being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Underlying story is he must behave to not ruin being knighted, something he wants to do for his granddaughter.

The plot line was pretty sad. What made the film worthwhile was all the cameos by stars playing themselves. Just have to love John Cleese.

Guide: No swearing, sex, or nudity.

quarantine fun
calveloalbert21 July 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Well if you have nothing to do in your quarantine this movie is quite fun. the least known hemsworth made me google who he is. the "voice" of brad pitt run over was funny. running over weinstein was funnier. there were a lot of cameos - john cleese, chevy chase, botox-ed olivia newton-john, the policeman from die hard, the guy from seinfeld & jurassic park, and a lot more. the look-alike of the more popular but just the same "i don't know his name" comedian-friend of adam sandler made search for celebrity look-alikes. pretty good writing. i just wish they were more particular in the editing of the stunt doubles. the stunt doubles for the octogenarians were pretty obvious-the driving cleese and the hogan by the pool- but very understandable since they are indeed octogenarians and no tom cruise's. but...! stunt double for a car???!#^^&** the chrysler 300c became a dodge charger! anyway it was a pretty good movie although i honestly thought this was the one with chris hemsworth and margot robbie (only to find out later that it was just a marketing campaign of australian tourism).

loved the movie
twodiamonds26 July 2020
This is not academy award material, but it was a lot of laughs. mr dundee was like a deer in the headlights kind of role. bad things kept happening to him despite the fact he kept trying to do the right thing. meanwhile the reporters kept coming down on him hard in one wild scene after another. watch it for the laughs and don't get to serious.

I enjoyed it.
samspiltmilk-0871426 October 2022
This is a lot funnier than the negative review Wonkypedia gives it. Maybe septic tanks don't get the Aussie in-jokes or can't understand a movie that doesn't follow the Hollywood formula. Hogan's self-deprecating humour is great - I hope the Australian Taxation Office gets the irony! From when I first saw Hoges on Kevin Dennis New Faces not only playing the garbophone but also sending up the judges with a sarcastic critique of their lousy acumen, through to his TV show with Strop and Delvene, and then his Dundee movies, what's there not to like?

Particularly poignant is the storyline of how he is more concerned about his effect on his granddaughter than any of the superficiality of the showbiz world. It's pretty obvious that he enjoyed making this film for the opportunity to take a shot at red carpet bulldust. Sure, it's not a "fantastic blockbuster", but the extremely negative reviews given by Rotten Tomatoes, Metacritic and Wikipedia show just how out of touch they can be,.. that they're not capable of understanding ocker humour or anything non-USA.

Hogan actually looks as reluctant as the persona he plays on screen to want to appear in this movie
Colbridge3 September 2021
Being a fan of the Crocodile Dundee movies and actor Paul Hogan this film was a guilty pleasure, although apart from him referencing his most famous character creation this has little to do with those films because here Paul Hogan is playing himself to a degree, as a faded Hollywood star who just wants to retire but instead gets persuaded to step into the limelight one last time to secure a knighthood, please his granddaughter and restore his legacy but of course things all go pear shaped which is where most of the fun is to be had.

It's a paper thin plot device and Hogan actually looks as reluctant as the persona he plays on screen to want to appear in the movie at times but he is 80 years old now in real life and is light years away from the charismatic Crocodile Dundee, however this self referential, tongue in cheek swipe at Hollywood, his career and the politically correctness of modern times is an amusing diversion if instantly forgettable.

Chevy Chase, John Cleese and Olivia Newton-John are unnecessarily shoe horned into proceedings and I was half expecting Linda Kozlowski to pop up at some point but she doesn't. It's light hearted, good natured and well intentioned but you are left asking yourself why did they feel the need to make this and parade Paul Hogan as a shadow of his former self. Fans will enjoy it but newcomers to the actor won't until you've watched the original Crocodile Dundee (1986).

Worst Paul Hogan movie ever!
psxexperten23 July 2020
Honestly don't understand what's up with all the great reviews. Are they paid? The film starts of bad and only gets worse. Who made this garbage? This is the worst movie of all time ! Acting terrible. Story terrible. Amusement factor Zero. It has one solitary redeeming feature, it ends. Sadly it takes around 90 minutes to do that. This was just awful. The writer deserves a d...ck.of the year award for writing this POS.
