“Bridgerton” star Nicola Coughlan is stepping into the lead role for the hit Netflix series’ third season, but she refuses to let her star turn get in the way of her advocacy work when it comes to supporting Palestine and calling for a ceasefire in Gaza.
In a new interview with Teen Vogue, Coughlan spoke about using her social media platforms to draw attention to the humanitarian crisis in Gaza despite being warned that such advocacy could cost her jobs in the film and television industry. She has already raised thousands of pounds for Gaza relief efforts through Instagram fundraisers.
“I think it’s important to me because firstly, I’m a very privileged person,” Coughlan said. “I’m so lucky I’ve gotten to this point in my career, and I’m privileged as a white woman, first off. Then the fact that I get to do the job...

According a federal judge, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) has frequently spread false information about doctors “mutilating” transgender children.
Judge Robert Hinkle stated that DeSantis made false claims in a push for a ban against transgender health care to children regardless of the fact that there have been no documented cases of procedures.
DeSantis signed a bill into law in late May that would make it unlawful for health care professionals to offer gender-affirming medical care to minors. This medical care included puberty blockers, hormone replacement therapy and surgeries.
Hinkle has blocked the law’s enforcement pending the trial’s outcome.
Three families from Florida who have transgender children sued the state.
The DeSantis administration argued that the law would inflict harm onto their children.
Opponents argued that the law would interfere with parents rights to make medical decisions for their children.

Once upon a time, Dance Moms was one of the biggest hits on cable TV.
Now, Lifetime is attempting to capitalize on its success with a reunion special set to air in 2014.
Airing from 2011-2019, the hit series focused on Abby Lee Miller as she ran her Abby Lee Dance Company.
That entailed her coaching a team as they learned their dances and competed in tournaments.
The series' success probably stemmed from the drama between Miller and the contestants' parents.
If you watch Dance Moms online, you know what we mean: Abby had countless spats with the parents throughout the show's eight-season run.
Much of the arguments ranged from Abby's treatment of the children to parents being displeased about creative choices from Abby.
It was a lot, and now, it's time for some of the show's most famous faces to return and unpack all of that drama.

If you look at Nahnatchka Khan's filmography, you won't see many titles suggesting she'd be a good fit for a bloody slasher movie. However, you will see plenty of titles that suggest she'd be ideal for a time traveling comedy about mothers and daughters, and how culture has shifted over the past 30 years. The fact that she can deliver a nasty slasher sequence in the new horror comedy "Totally Killer" will leave fans of her past work a little dizzy.
"Totally Killer" is built around one heck of a high concept pitch: What if a modern teen (Kieran Shipka), grieving the death of her murdered mother, goes back in time to the '80s to stop the killer's initial reign of terror, lower the body count, and ensure her mom's survival in the present? It's "Back to the Future" with a body count, leaning on '80s tropes without ever getting too nostalgic.

During this week’s episode of WrapWomen’s “UnWrapped” Podcast, “Yellowjackets” star Christina Ricci opened up about the “abuse” and “childhood trauma” she faced growing up and how she continues to navigate her mental health as an adult.
The actress, who got her big break playing Wednesday Addams in the 1991 film “The Addams Family” said that mental health wasn’t a big topic back then. Ricci has said she suffered from anorexia as a teenager and was sexually assaulted as a child. “There was no discussion at that time about trauma, and about recovering from those things, about Ptsd,” she said. As a result, she ended up “acting out and coping in ways that weren’t good.”
Nowadays, the mother of two still finds it hard to find time to focus on her mental health. “I have a baby and an 8-year-old. So my days are really busy,” Ricci said.

London, March 27 (Ians) Women are more likely to experience long-term anxiety after cardiac arrest than men, finds a study.
The study, presented at Esc Acute CardioVascular Care 2023, a scientific congress of the European Society of Cardiology (Esc), revealed that more than 40 per cent of women report anxiety four months after a cardiac arrest compared with 23 per cent of men.
Cardiac arrest causes one in five deaths in industrialised countries. The heart unexpectedly stops pumping blood around the body and if flow is not restored quickly, the individual passes out and dies within 10 to 20 minutes.
Less than 10 per cent of people who have a cardiac arrest survive to hospital discharge.
Anxiety and depression are frequent after critical illness and are strongly associated with reduced quality of life in patients and relatives.
“Cardiac arrest occurs with little or no warning and it’s common to feel anxious and low afterwards,” said Dr.

The national board of SAG-AFTRA approved a new agreement with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP) on Saturday, which will limit exclusivity in television actors’ contracts. The vote was almost unanimous, with 95.5 in favor of the measure.
The new deal will markedly cut down the time that contracts can hold series regulars back from working on other projects simultaneously and will apply to all work under contracts entered into on or after Jan. 1, 2023.

Among the key improvements to exclusivity rules for all series regulars:
Creation of a “conflict-free window” of at least three months during each season in which performers may accept a permitted appearance on another show or network without first confirming availability and potential scheduling. This “conflict-free window” is not mandatory where the filming schedule between seasons is less than 4 months.

The movie-theater industry officially returned to normal at CinemaCon 2022, and we’re leaving Las Vegas with an Xl-sized popcorn bucket filled with all the eventizing one can stomach. Here’s what we know after the Monday-Thursday Caesars Palace celebration.
Day-and-Date Is Public Enemy Number One
Thousands of CinemaCon attendees, all with a common goal: Death to the day-and-date release. The exhibitors who packed the Colosseum auditorium have had enough of losing money to streamers. Warner Bros. was the biggest offender; on Tuesday, Warners executives made it exquisitely clear to the theater owners that the HBO Max experiment was a one-and-done to get through Covid.

Peter Dinklage may be one of the most recognizable actors working today, but that doesn’t limit his range. As a clip reel of his nearly 30-year career in film and TV proved ahead of a tribute on the first day of the Telluride Film Festival, Dinklage can play a sensitive loner (“The Station Agent”) just as well as an icy mob boss (“I Care a Lot”) and the anarchic schemer Tyrion Lannister from “Game of Thrones.” The screening of his new movie that followed a brief onstage conversation, “Cyrano,” also proved that Dinklage can sing.
Director Joe Wright’s lavish adaptation of the 2019 off-Broadway musical, written by Dinklage’s wife Erica Schmidt, finds the actor embodying Cyrano de Bergerac as a swashbuckling 17th century wordsmith who buries his attraction to childhood friend Roxanne (Haley Bennett) by helping an inarticulate guardsman (Kelvin Harrison Jr.) romance the woman by writing love letters for him.

This Fear the Walking Dead review contains spoilers.
Fear the Walking Dead Season 6 Episode 10
If there’s been one, consistent failing of Fear the Walking Dead’s sixth season, it’s that the show’s original cast of characters have been sidelined in favor of newer arrivals like Morgan, John, Al, June, et al. While these new characters have featured in some of the show’s best episodes to date, that doesn’t mean Fear stalwarts like Alicia, Strand, and Daniel have no good stories left to tell. Indeed, what works so well about this week’s “Handle with Care” is that it puts everyone’s favorite barber front and center as he tries to uncover a possible traitor within the community’s walls. Amidst the growing distrust and paranoia, “Handle with Care” reminds us that old wounds often run very, very deep. And as we know, Daniel carries scars both seen and unseen.

October doesn’t have to be the exclusive month of chilling, thrilling films, and no one recognizes that more acutely than horror streamer Shudder, which recently announced a cheeky “Halfway to Halloween Month” (read: April), dedicated to the kind of fresh genre programming usually relegated to autumn. The actress beat out Maria Bakalova (Borat Subsequent Moviefilm), Kate Hudson (Music), Michelle Pfeiffer (French Exit) and Anya Taylor-Joy (Emma).
After being announced the winner, Pike could be seen visibly excited, quick to give a nod to her film’s title, “I bet it looks like I care a lot. I do!”
In her acceptance speech, Pike thanked the HFPA for “recognizing the dark side of comedy” and Netflix for “giving us an ...

There’s a genre of smile, that wide, gleaming, shit-stirring grin that says: I hate you. And also: I’m going to kill you. Can we call it the Pike? After Rosamund, of course, who serves it better than most anyone working in movies at the moment, and who has the added asset of a voice that adds a layer of wonderful threat to that smile — a contralto purr that can make any line, no matter how nonsensical or overly explanatory, feel magnetically, appealingly dangerous. That voice and smile were...

Framing Britney Spears on FX and Hulu is an insightful look into the stories around the #FreeBritney movement, and why Britney Spears deserves better.
“The New York Times documentary Framing Britney Spears aired Friday night on FX and Hulu, delivering an insightful and reflection on the career of Britney Spears and the current legal issues surrounding her conservatorship. Among all the things the documentary touched on, the most important thing we all have to reckon with is the sexist and ableist environment that festered around her.”

Rising indie rocker Beabadoobee turned in a performance of her song “Care” on Jimmy Kimmel Live Wednesday, November 19th.
Frontwoman Bea Kristi and her band kept things to the point as they ripped through the vintage-sounding track, which is packed with plenty of big guitar crunch that Kristi offset with her sweet vocal croon: “I don’t want your sympathy,” she sings before the final blow-out chorus, “I guess I’ve had it rough/But you don’t really/Care, care, care.”

Eva Longoria, Ava DuVernay, Venus Williams and Netflix executive Bozoma Saint John are among the honorees for this year’s Care Impact Awards, celebrating the empowerment of women and girls, and the eradication of global poverty.
The Nov. 18 ceremony will be hosted by journalist Lisa Ling, and is set to feature an appearance from Hillary Clinton, who will reflect on the state of the world following the 2020 election.
“This year marks the 75th anniversary of Care and as we deal with the challenges of a global pandemic, Care is applying our 75 years of humanitarian experience to help those facing extreme poverty and hunger,” said Michelle Nunn, president and CEO of Care USA. “Despite these tremendous challenges, I remain hopeful that we will build back a stronger, more equitable future for all.”

In 2019, a new singer-guitarist from London with the intriguing name Beabadoobee released “I Wish I Was Stephen Malkmus,” an immediately addictive swirl of buzzing guitars and lyrics about her blue hair and mutable moods and sitting at home crying to Pavement while loving every minute of her journey from whatever’s now to whatever’s next. Bea Kristi, the singer-guitarist who records as Beabadoobee, was born in 2000, a year after Malkmus’ iconic band broke up, but she clearly had an impeccable gift for putting her own spin on Nineties indie-rock.

A reunion between director Thomas Vinterberg and his star of the 2012 drama The Hunt is a flippant and very, very drunken story of an unusual experiment
The Danish title is “Druk”, a term which is maybe best translated by adding the letter N before the one at the end. Here it is the rather more quaint Another Round. Thomas Vinterberg’s film, reuniting him with actor Mads Mikkelsen (who starred in his drama The Hunt in 2012) is a slightly flippant tragicomedy of booze and midlife defiance, based on a pseudoscientific theory which put me in mind of Humphrey Bogart’s bleary dictum about the rest of the world being three drinks behind. People spend a lot of time in this film getting very, very drunk and maybe in the wacky traditions of Denmark’s Zentropa Studios, the actors were indeed required to get genuinely hammered before the cry of “Action!

‘I Care a Lot’ Review: Rosamund Pike Returns to Her Hilariously Icy Amy Dunne Best in Pulpy Thriller
Filmmaker J Blakeson makes one fatal flaw in his darkly funny thriller “I Care a Lot,” an understandable misstep because it seems like such a fundamental addition to any film: he tries to humanize his characters. While the film’s first half leans into the icy, often hilarious villainy of such very bad people as a ponytailed crime boss played by Peter Dinklage, a smarmy lawyer (Chris Messina) who dresses as if Colonel Sanders was a stand-up comedian, and star Rosamund Pike, returning to her frosty “Gone Girl” best, its messy final act attempts a brief foray into making some of these outsize monsters more civilized. What a mistake, because “I Care a Lot,” .
“There’s no such thing as good people,” Marla Grayson (Pike) sneers during the film’s opening credits, as she introduces the closest thing she has to a personal ethos. Most of what we learn about...

Faced with the most adversity since this exact day 19 years ago when the 2001 Toronto Film Festival was upended by the tragic terrorist attack on 9/11 that left nearly 3,000 dead, organizers and buyers and sellers of films head into the weekend with uncertainty over a mostly virtual TIFF 2020 that is severely hobbled by a coronavirus pandemic that has left nearly 200,000 dead just in the U.S.
How will this year’s market play out? Who knows? Toronto doesn’t automatically guarantee a windfall of sales of finished films anyway. Last year, only one major deal closed before the buying crowd left Toronto, when HBO paid near $20 million for the Hugh Jackman-Allison Janney black comedy Bad Education.
The festival is just getting underway and already Netflix has clocked an eight-figure deal for the Halle Berry-directed Mma film Bruised. That deal is in the same price range of Bad Education, so...

To mark what would have been Michael Jackson’s 62nd birthday, director Spike Lee has released a 2020 version of his music video for the singer’s “They Don’t Care About Us.”
The new visual for “They Don’t Care About Us (2020)” incorporates scenes and outtakes from Lee’s original two videos for the HIStory: Past, Present and Future, Book I single — both the Brazil version and the prison-set one that examined police brutality — with footage from George Floyd protests from around the world.

The local WWII Documentary Path Of The Past will screen at Big Daddy’s Bar & Grill in St. Louis (1000 Sidney St.) on Thursday January 16th at 7pm. There will be a Q&a with filmmaker Lou Baczewski after the film. Admission is $10. A portion of proceeds from Path of the Past benefit families dealing with deployment via the non-profit H.E.R.O.E.S. Care.
Path of the Past tells the story of Sgt. Louis “Louch” Baczewski, who was part of a tank crew in the 3rd Armored Division (Ad) that fought in all five major European campaigns, including the infamous Battle of the Bulge. The film focuses less on the American victory and more on the costs and European destruction of the war and is based on Lou Baczewski’s book Louch. “If you want to know what war is really like, Louch is a must read,” states retired 3 Star Lt.

Superstore will ring in the new year with a long-awaited (and potentially dangerous) family reunion, when Dean Norris enters Cloud 9 as Dina’s deadbeat dad.
As previously reported, the Breaking Bad vet will assume the role of Howard Fox, a “rugged and eccentric” individual who comes back into Dina’s life, ready to make amends for leaving her when she was just a child. (The character was most recently referenced in the Oct. 24 episode “Self-Care,” when Glenn served as a temporary stand-in for Dina’s father.) Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-ma), who is seen as a top 2020 Democratic candidate, unveiled an ambitious proposal Tuesday that would offer low- or no-cost child care to all American families, regardless of income. “How much you make at your job should not determine the quality care your child gets,” Warren said, debuting the plan on Twitter. “Child care should be a fundamental right, period.”
Another big, structural change we need: #UniversalChildCare. I’m proposing a bold new plan that guarantees high-quality child care and early education for every child in America.
