Comedy-drama is sixth feature from Belgian director Benoit Mariage after festival hits such as Les Convoyeurs Attendent and Cow-Boy.
Brussels-based Be for Films has taken world sales rights on Benoit Mariage’s new comedy-drama Habib about a young Belgian actor of Moroccan parentage who takes a role as Francis of Assisi in a bid to break the cycle of being typecast as an amiable Arab in mediocre films.
Getting into character is a challenge, however, when his father unexpectedly returns to Brussels from Morocco with his new wife for treatment for early-onset Alzheimer’s and Habib finds himself juggling the demands of his different milieu.

During the live-streamed case study “Seven Grams: Solution Journalism and Augmented Reality,” presented on Thursday at the NewImages Festival, director Karim Ben Khelifa explained the origins of his next VR project – once again made with the help of executive producer Chloé Jarry of Lucid Realities.
As mentioned also in the short trailer, shown to the audience gathered in the room as well as the one watching online, “Seven Grams” is a global journalistic project that tells the story of smartphones through a smartphone, using Ar. With each mobile containing roughly seven grams of precious minerals, like gold, one country in particular has an abundance of them: The Democratic Republic of Congo. “But for many, this has been a curse rather than a blessing,” it was said in the video materials, as they are often extracted in horrendous conditions, violating basic human rights.
“I had forgotten I had to do this in English!

The festival is set to go ahead, come what may, and flaunts a tantalising programme toplined by the new, Cannes 2020-approved Thomas Vinterberg title and Venice’s Golden Lion victor Nomadland. Film Fest Gent will once again be celebrating the seventh art between 13 and 24 October, with an enticing selection which comprises a number of much-anticipated works, not least the new Thomas Vinterberg opus Another Round, which has been awarded the Cannes 2020 label. Online participants - and festival organisers - will be amused to note that instead of raising a glass “in person” in honour of the Opening Ceremony, they can at least watch attending actors raise a glass, if not several. A further thirteen feature films will be battling it out in the Official Competition. Opening the line-up is the new film by Stephan Streker, The Enemy, based upon a true story which rocked host country Belgium: a...
