Both the comics and the original series establish that Scrooge made his fortune in the Klondike as a prospector. This series, set thirty years after the original, also use this backstory even though it would make Scrooge (and Goldie, of course) well over a hundred years old. The comments about a "time vortex" and "fountain of youth" were written in to explain this anomaly.
The plot of Goldie and Scrooge's past with the fountain of youth references the film The Fountain (2006), which also involves a couple and a fountain. Their history also references the Carl Barks comic "Back to the Klondike", as well as the episode of the original series with the same name, which includes plot elements of a White Agony Plains gold mine and encountering a non-anthropomorphic bear in Klondike.
Goldie says the fountain of youth she found was in "Ronguay" (pronounced "wrong way") a city which played a major role in an episode of the original series.
This is the first episode where one or more main characters don't have a single line of dialogue. In this case it's Launchpad McQuack and Webby Vanderquack.
Marks the second time that Goldie uses a weapon against Scrooge. Her first time was in the episode "Till Nephews do us Apart" of the Original DuckTales (1987) after Scrooge tried to marry another woman against her wishes.
