Anna receives a picture of herself standing in front of Compton's Cafeteria. In 1959, Compton's was a hangout for San Francisco's transgender community. Police and staff made a practice of harassing patrons. Early trans activists picketed the place in July 1966. In August there were two nights of rioting in response to arrests of trans patrons. This was the second known instance of the LGBT community fighting back against oppression in the United States.
