The movie was inspired by a real-life trip the SNL stars took together to celebrate a 50th birthday.
Amy Poehler's feature film directorial debut.
Poehler said on the Busy Tonight show that one of the film's funniest props-the CPAP machine her character uses to help her sleep-actually belongs to her. "You know how Bradley Cooper used his real dog in A Star Is Born?" Poehler said. "I used my real CPAP machine."
Rachel Dratch actually hired a local chef, Gerard Nebesky, to cook paella for her and her SNL buddies during their real-life wine country celebration of her 50th birthday. Her actual birthday trip took place in Sonoma County, not Napa Valley where the movie takes place.
Tina Fey is a real-life member of this SNL friend group, but because of her schedule, was not able to play a larger role in the movie. Instead, she plays the owner of the rental house. Fey's plaid-heavy look was inspired by a woman the creative team met when scouting locations for the film.
