Wrong is the 2nd video released from Lindsey Buckingham's 1992 album Out of the Cradle.
Wrong portrays the battle between artistry and commerce in the music business. The video opens with a boardroom surrounded by music executives who are bemoaning the lack of a hit record from Lindsey. The chief executive screams at his staff, asking "what has Buckingham done with the money?"
Lindsey is shown playing the guitar, barefoot and dressed casually in jeans and a buttoned down black shirt, happy to be playing his music. A number of alter-egos of Lindsey appear, each derivative of a popular style for musicians - a hippie look with vividly colored clothes and a headband and with his guitar on fire (a la Jimi Hendrix), wearing a gold lamé jacket with flashy gold jewelry and bouffant hair (the Las Vegas version of Elvis) and a black leather jacket clad version with chains and slicked back hair.
The executives love the alternate, more flamboyant versions of Lindsey, celebrating with cigars as they wave copies of Rolling Bone magazine, with Lindsey on the cover, lounging in bed drinking champagne with scantily clad women.
With each alternate version of himself, Lindsey outduels them with his guitar, pushing them out of the frame. The leather clad version of Lindsey is pushed from the balcony of a tall building. The real Lindsey also goes on a rampage, smashing sculptures and throwing books and CDs around the room.
After Lindsey has dispatched all of the alternate versions of himself, the real Lindsey remains, playing his music the way he wants to.
Lindsey has said that he based this song on Mick Fleetwood, who was driven by money rather than artistry as he battled financial difficulties related to his addiction to cocaine.
