Jack Paglen (Transcendence) is in talks to write a new Maze Runner film for 20th Century Studios, Deadline can confirm.
While details as to the plot of the film are under wraps for the moment, it’s described as a continuation of the story of the last three films, released between 2014 and 2018, rather than a direct sequel.
Based on the dystopian YA book series by James Dashner, The Maze Runner takes place in a post-apocalyptic world, where a group of young survivors must navigate deadly mazes, treacherous landscapes, and sinister organizations as they uncover the truth about their past and fight for their freedom. Wes Ball directed the original 2014 film, as well as sequels Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials (2015) and Maze Runner: The Death Cure (2018), all ahead of Disney’s acquisition of Fox. Dylan O’Brien and Kaya Scodelario starred in the films, which grossed over $948 million worldwide in total.

The prequel to Paramount’s 2019 horror film “Pet Sematary” has added “Jackie Brown” star Pam Grier to its call sheet.
Grier joins a cast that includes Jackson White (“Mrs. Fletcher”), Forrest Goodluck (” The Revenant”), Jack Mulhern (“Mare of Easttown”), Natalie Alyn Lind (” The Goldbergs”) and Isabella Star LeBlanc. The upcoming “Pet Sematary” will serve as an origin story to the Stephen King novel about a family that discovers a rather disturbing graveyard in the woods behind their home.
The movie, which still doesn’t have a title, begins shooting in August and will debut exclusively on Paramount Plus, the recently rebranded streaming service from ViacomCBS, on an undetermined date. It is set up at Paramount Players, a division of Paramount that specializes in genre fare.

Exclusive: Netflix is turning Mark Millar’s Jupiter’s Legacy series into a universe spanning an anthology franchise. The streamer has set a live-action adaptation of Supercrooks, which delves into the story of Millarworld’s super-villains, as the next installment of the Jupiter’s Legacy saga.
Meanwhile, Jupiter’s Legacy will not continue as an ongoing series. With Netflix and Millar going in a different creative direction with the IP and the talent options soon expiring, the streamer has opted to let the high-profile cast — led by Josh Duhamel, Leslie Bibb and Ben Daniels — out of their commitments to the show.
“We’re confident we’ll return to it later,” Millar said of Jupiter’s Legacy, which could come back in a different iteration, sources said.
Netflix has an anime series adaptation of Supercrooks, the superpowered heist comic about eight supervillains written by Millar and drawn by Leinil Francis Yu, which will be released later this year.

The series adaptation of Mark Millar’s “The Magic Order” is back in development at Netflix, with Millar also announcing a new slate of projects at the streamer.

Back in 2017, Netflix acquired the rights to Scottish comic writer Mark Millar’s Millarworld imprint. Since then, Netflix and Millarworld have teamed up on the comic series The Magic Order but have not brought any of Millar’s other comic creations to the live-action television realm.
Well, that will all change soon! Netflix has finally unveiled the first fruit of their Millarworld collaboration in the form of a release date and teaser for Jupiter’s Legacy. Jupiter’s Legacy is a Millar superhero comic from 2013. This adaptation will arrive on Netflix on May 7, 2021. Check out the first teaser below.
While there isn’t much substance in that teaser, that’s Ok. The people don’t need substance out of 30-second superhero show teasers, they need style…they need atmosphere. And that clip is nothing if not atmospheric.

While James Wan has stayed busy as a producer in the horror genre over the past several years, it looks like he will be returning to the director's chair for a new horror film at New Line Cinema.
According to Variety, James Wan is lined up to helm "an untitled secret horror project for New Line Cinema." In addition to directing, Wan is writing the screenplay with Ingrid Bisu (who appeared in The Nun as Sister Oana) and will produce via his Atomic Monster label alongside Michael Clear.

Here is the logline from Netflix: Five families of magicians sworn to protect our world must battle an enemy who’s picking them off one by one. By day they live among us as our neighbors, friends and co-workers, but by night they are the sorcerers, magicians and wizards that protect us from the forces of darkness — unless the darkness gets them first.
The “Aquaman” director will also helm the first episode, which will be written by Lindsay Beer, who will also serve as showrunner.
The series is based on Millar’s comic book series of the same name, which joins five other projects from Millar under his Millarworld banner, which Netflix acquired in 2017.

Netflix purchased comic book writer Mark Millar‘s Millarworld company last year, and they’ve already teamed up to release the streaming service’s first comic book, The Magic Order. But Netflix didn’t buy Millar’s company solely to make comic books: they’re in it for that sweet, sweet intellectual property. The first batch of Millarworld movies and TV shows […]

Netflix has set its first slate of films based on the stories of Mark Millar, and enlisted a number of A-list talent to develop the movies along the way.
The first three comics to get the film adaptation treatment are “Empress,” “Huck,” and “Sharkey the Bounty Hunter.”
“Empress” follows Queen Emporia, who is married to the worst dictator in the galaxy, King Morax. After escaping his palace with her children, Emporia and her family must hide from Morax and his army at all costs — even if it takes teleporting from planet to planet to avoid them. “Kingkiller Chronicle” writer Lindsey Beer is adapting the comic book into a feature film, with Joe Roth and Jeff Kirschenbaum set to produce.
Neal H. Moritz and Toby Jaffe are producing “Huck,” with “Hidden Figures” director Ted Melfi penning the script. The story is set in a quiet seaside town, where the main character...

Netflix has put multiple projects based on properties from Mark Millar’s Millarworld into development as original series, Variety has learned.
One of those projects is “American Jesus,” based on the Millarworld comic of the same name. The series follows a twelve-year-old boy who suddenly discovers he’s returned as Jesus Christ. He can turn water into wine, make the crippled walk, and, perhaps, even raise the dead.
The series would be multi-lingual, featuring both English and Spanish. Everardo Gout and Leopoldo Gout will serve as co-showrunners and executive producers, with Everardo also directing. Everardo previously directed for the Marvel-Netflix series “Luke Cage” and has directed multiple episodes of the upcoming Facebook Watch series “Sacred Lies.” Leopolodo has produced projects like the film “Molly’s Game” and the series “Zoo” and “Instinct” for CBS. Leopoldo Gout and Everardo Gout are repped by CAA.

Exclusive: Just under a year after Netflix inked a deal to purchase Kick-Ass, Jupiter’s Legacy and Kingsman creator Mark Miller’s comic booking publishing company, the team have their inaugural series The Magic Order coming out next week – and its poised to be a total sell-out.
Based on pre-order indications, the start of the series of a multi-generation family of magicians under attack from the one-time Avengers author Millarworld and Marvel’s superstar artist Olivier Coipel that goes on sale on June 13 is the most successful debut in almost 20 years. It is also causing the Man of Steel to break a sweat. See an unlettered preview of the first issue of Magic Order above and the cover of Issue #4 here:
