“It is all things political in 2024,” said Leona Connell, Chief Commercial Officer at Newen Connect, the sales arm of TF1 Group’ owned French sales house’s Newen Studios that will representing two of the highest profile political titles at Series Mania, In the Shadows and 8 Months.
In the Shadows (Dans L’Ombre) comes from Versailles and Rembrandt director Pierre Schoeller, who adapted a novel from former French Prime Minister Edouard Philippe and Gilles Boyer, a political insider who served as Philippe’s advisor.

Amazon has decided not to move forward with the series “The Banker’s Wife,” Variety has confirmed.
According to sources close to the internationally-set show, it proved too difficult to shoot due to Covid-19 production delays and budget limitations. “The Banker’s Wife” was nearing the final stages of pre-production when the Covid-19 pandemic hit in March 2020, and since then, has been stalled. However, there is hope among producers of setting the show up somewhere else down the road.
“The Banker’s Wife” joins a number of shows that have seen their orders scrapped due to Covid-19 production concerns, including HBO’s “Americanah” and Showtime’s “The President Is Missing.”
The series, from “Homeland” producers Meredith Stiehm and Lesli Linka Glatter, is set in the world of international finance, with locations ranging all over Europe. Based on the best-selling novel of the same name by Cristina Alger, it was handed...

‘The President Is Missing’ Showtime Drama Pilot Won’t Be Produced Due To Covid-Related Circumstances
Showtime no longer will be making its drama pilot The President Is Missing, an adaptation of the novel by President Bill Clinton and James Patterson, from Christopher McQuarrie and Anthony Peckham.

The ViacomCBS premium network also recently decided not to proceed with the previously ordered second season of On Becoming a God In Central Florida, citing the impact of the pandemic-related production delays.

“Selma” star David Oyelowo said that Ava DuVernay’s film suffered at the Oscars because the cast of the film wore “I Can’t Breathe” T-shirts to the film’s premiere in protest of the death of Eric Garner.
Oyelowo, who played Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. in DuVernay’s 2014 fact-based film “Selma,” said that the movie’s release coincided with the death of Garner and that Academy voters were offended by the cast’s political protests.
“I remember at the premiere of ‘Selma’ us wearing ‘I Can’t Breathe’ T-shirts in protest,” Oyelowo said in a Screen Talks panel discussion with Screen Daily. “Members of the Academy called in to the studio and our producers saying, ‘How dare they do that? Why are they stirring S-h-i-t?’ and ‘We are not going to vote for that film because we do not think it is their place to be doing that.

James Patterson’s Alex Cross could soon be coming to the small screen.
Variety has learned exclusively that Amazon is currently developing an Alex Cross TV series, based on the novels starring the character written by Patterson. Throughout the book series, Cross works as a detective, FBI agent, and psychologist in Washington D.C. There is no word yet on which specific novel or novels the show would focus on, but there are currently 29 books total from which to choose.
Patterson and Bill Robinson of James Patterson Entertainment will executive produce along with David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, and Marcy Ross for Skydance Television. The series hails from Amazon Studios, Paramount Television Studios, and Skydance.
Should the project go forward, it would not be the first time Cross has appeared onscreen. Morgan Freeman played the character in two films — “Kiss the Girls” in 1997 and “Along Came a Spider” in 2001. Tyler Perry...
