- Holiday Road is the theme song from the 1983 movie National Lampoon's Vacation and was composed and performed by Lindsey Buckingham. The song is on the soundtrack for the movie, along with another Buckingham song written for the movie - Dancin' Across the USA. Holiday Road was also used in the subsequent films in the franchise - European Vacation, Christmas Vacation, Vegas Vacation and the 2015 reboot Vacation. The music video depicts Lindsey Buckingham in an office environment, dressed in a suit and tie. The office is a sterile place filled with identical desks arranged in rows, with a phone, a few pieces of paper and a can of Coca Cola on each desk. The grey walls are mostly blank, as the calendar on the wall with a colorful view of a couple on a beach, is torn down. High above the rows of desks is a dais, with an old man watching over the workers. Lindsey is seen singing the song as he stands behind his desk, with the other office workers singing back-up. As Lindsey looks out of the window to see trees outside, a set of bars slams down across the opening. Moments later, a workman appears, enclosing the window with cement blocks so he cannot even see outside the building. The imagery of the office as a prison continues as Lindsey is seen sitting at his desk, but as the camera pulls away, you realize that the desk is in a prison cell. Lindsey pours a glass from a water fountain, but it is a garish color of blue, obviously not pure water. He looks at it suspiciously, and drops the glass and the liquid pours over the floor. Lindsey's desire to escape his environment is highlighted as he struggles to remove his tie and free himself from this place. At the end of the song, Lindsey is seen outside among the trees, looking back to his alter-ego who is still trapped behind bars. The old man on the dais is angrily pointing, and there is a sound of dogs barking as the sterility of the office is broken by Lindsey's escape.
