Boy has late night television gone south

The really long title "The Late Late Show Primetime Carpool Karaoke Special" basically says it all what these pretty recent 43 minutes are about. Or does it really? Yes there is some carpool stuff in here, Corden's trademark category perhaps, but there is also other stuff in here. The one thing this has in common is that it involves stars next to the host mentioned in the title. It is pretty tough to say what was the worst thing here. Was it the fact that they think recycled material is good like Bruno Mars' sequence. Or was it the incredibly desperate attempts of the crowd to make us believe this is quality television with their annoyingly loud cheering during every moment that was intended funny, but almost never was. Or is it the fact that the new generation of late night hosts is really so disappointing. Corden is just one of many who don't have it and it really makes you miss the likes of Leno, Letterman etc. The new approach is really nothing but loud and Corden's permanent routine to make fun of himself becomes repetitive and uninspired after 5 minutes already. Basically all his material is about not taking himself seriously, which may be a good thing, but it's nothing that is material itself really. So yes this was indeed majorly disappointing, but can you really blame them for keeping doing crap like that if the Emmys even honor it. Unreal stuff. Not even Katy Perry who I usually like could save this as investigative journalism here apparently refers to discussing her feud with Taylor Swift. O tempora, o mores. I initially thought looking at the rating here that there was some vote stuffing going on (and maybe there was), but honestly this was just a truly bad watch and the IMDb rating is quite accurate. Self-adulation of the worst kind you could imagine. They really seemed to be thinking they came up with something creative here. Talk about lowering the bar. The fact that it may not be worse than what Fallon, Kimmel and Colbert produce these days does not mean it's good. It's just the same level of stinker. Highly not recommended.
