During the final battle at the climax of Avengers: Endgame, there’s a moment where Cap solely stares down Thanos’ astonishing army, which is made up of numerous forces from earlier McU movies. There’s the Chitauri, Sakaarans, Outriders, and Black Order all ready to rip the First Avenger to shreds. It’s truly an incredible sight, but believe it or not, even more villains were supposed to be included at one point. Specifically, the Frost Giants.
Yes, the antagonists from 2011’s Thor almost made a return in Endgame. And while they were ultimately cut, including them would’ve been a nice touch that would’ve added another callback to Phase One of the McU. Especially since we haven’t really heard much from them since their debut in the franchise.

The years between Laika releases–in which our eyes are exposed to hours of unimaginative, cookie-cutter Hollywood animation–always seems to be just enough time to desperately crave a new visually inventive world from the studio. Missing Link, the fifth feature film from the company, is another wondrously detailed animation feat and certainly their most epic outing with its globe-trotting story of mythic proportions–even as the script leaves something to be desired.
Written and directed by Chris Butler (ParaNorman), the journey of an unlikely duo linked together by a shared loneliness is a well-worn tale–one that can seem even more difficult in both keeping the attention of a younger demographic and retaining a level of originality–but where Missing Link lacks narrative flair, it makes up for it in spades with its ravishing world-building.
Set in the Victorian era, the movie follows Sir Lionel Frost (Hugh Jackman), an...

Michael Sheen (Underworld, Good Omens, Frost/Nixon) is set to star in a new series pilot for Fox called Prodigal Son. He will be playing a serial killer in the show, which seems like a great role for him to take on! Sheen is a great actor that will easily be able to pull off a sadistic serial killer.
The one-hour series will center on Malcolm Bright, “an acclaimed criminal psychologist. He knows how killers think, how their minds work. Why? His father (Sheen) was one of the worst — a notorious serial killer called ‘The Surgeon.’ He will use his twisted genius to help the NYPD solve crimes and stop killers, all while dealing with a manipulative mother, annoyingly normal sister, a homicidal father still looking to bond with his prodigal son, and his own constantly evolving neuroses.”

Last year, Sam Rockwell delivered an emotional and moving speech while accepting his best supporting actor Golden Globe award for his role in Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri - he's nominated this year again for best supporting actor for his role in Vice - but before he took the stage, he got a sweet smooch from his date and long-term girlfriend, Leslie Bibb, that left him covered in lipstick.
But exactly who is Leslie Bibb? She's an accomplished actor in her own right and has been performing for decades!
Born in Bismarck, Nd, and raised in Nelson County, Va, the 43-year-old model-turned-actress got her start in 1990 when, at just 16, she won a nationwide model search on The Oprah Winfrey Show. After scoring small parts in films like The Skulls and shows like Home Improvement and Just Shoot Me!, Bibb landed a starring role as preppy Brooke McQueen on the short-lived WB show Popular,...

During an interview in 2010, Queen guitarist Brian May announced that a film about the legendary British rock band was in the works. Sacha Baron Cohen was set to play Freddie Mercury, with Peter Morgan (The Queen and Frost/Nixon), writing the screenplay. In 2013, however, Cohen left the project due to creative differences. Shortly thereafter, it was announced that director Dexter Fletcher (Eddie the Eagle) would helm the biopic with Ben Wishaw as Mercury. That fell apart, too. Then in 2015, writer Anthony McCarten signed on to the seemingly doomed project. The film was soon fast-tracked by 20th Century Fox, with director Bryan Singer and actor Rami Malek set to play Freddie. And now Bohemian Rhapsody, a paint-by-numbers biopic that feels less like a definitive telling of Queen's rise to fame and more like Oscar Bait Mamma Mia!™. Book-ended by the band's iconic performance at 1985's Live Aid, the film begins in...

Gay fests are currently showing a restoration of the late Arthur J. Bressan Jr.’s “Buddies,” a microbudgeted drama that arrived in 1985 as the first-ever narrative feature about the AIDS crisis, one resolutely from the viewpoint of the already hard-hit gay community. A few months later network TV waded in with the acclaimed “An Early Frost,” which like most early mainstream treatments of the subject took a perspective designed to soften up AIDS-phobic Middle America — that of “respectable” parents coming to terms with their sons’ homosexuality as well as probably terminal illnesses.
Bridging the two 30-odd years later is Yen Tan’s fine “1985,” which expands on ideas first explored in his short of the same name two years ago. This excellent drama presents an ’80s flashback perhaps even more uncomfortably familiar to many gay men who survived that era than the stricken Manhattan of “Buddies” or the upscale suburbia of “Frost.

Looking to ramp up collaborations between countries in an oft-overlooked corner of Southeastern Europe, the Transilvania Pitch Stop has selected 10 projects that will be pitched to industry professionals on June 1-2 as part of its growing co-production platform.
Hailing from Georgia, Russia, Turkey, Serbia and Hungary, as well as the host country, Romania, the selection offers a cross-section of filmmaking from what Dorina Oarga, industry manager of the Transilvania Intl. Film Festival, describes as an “underrepresented” region around Romania and the Black Sea. “We’re trying to…build [capacity] where it’s necessary,” she says.
Conceived four years ago as a five-day workshop for first- and second-time directors from Romania and Moldova, the Pitch Stop expanded its focus in 2017 to include a co-production platform with projects from neighboring countries.

Lithuanian filmmaker Sarunas Bartas’ Frost – a road movie into the heart of the ongoing conflict in Ukraine – has an opening act that could well send you to sleep, with extensive character building, slow-burning and pensive in its execution. But the patient (still awake) viewers will be rewarded with a compelling final act that makes up for what preceded it.
Rokas (Mantas Janciauskas) bravely, if somewhat mysteriously, agrees to volunteer as a driver, and head all the way to war-torn Ukraine to provide humanitarian aid. Convincing his girlfriend Inga (Lyja Maknaviciute) to join him for this lengthy, precarious endeavour, they set off to lend a hand. Stopping off several times along the way to their destination, one night in Poland stands out, with Inga sleeping with Andrei (Andrzej Chyra) and Rokas indulging in a profound conversation with a French journalist (played by Vanessa Paradis) about love, and the sadness that comes with it.

A young Lithuanian couple’s idea of a road trip is to drive from the Baltics to the war-torn Donbass region, in eastern Ukraine, in Frost, the latest feature from Lithuanian auteur Sharunas Bartas (Few of Us, Seven Invisible Men). Shot on the road and on location over a period of three months, this dire drama gets full marks for authenticity, with a scene in which two (actual) Ukrainian soldiers explain to the protagonists why they are fighting the war they are waging a certain highlight. But beyond this sequence, there really isn’t all that much to recommend, with the lead...

Following the main line-up at this year’s Cannes Film Festival, the first sidebar has been unveiled. Directors’ Fortnight has revealed their enticing slate, including the opening film, Claire Denis‘ Juliette Binoche-led Un Beau Soleil Interieur (formerly Dark Glasses).
Also in the line-up is Abel Ferrara‘s Alive in France, Sean Baker‘s Tangerine follow-up The Florida Project, Philippe Garrel‘s L’Amant D’Un Jour, Bruno Dumont‘s Jeannette, L’Enfance De Jeanne D’Arc, and Jonas Carpignano‘s A Ciambra. Peculiarly, there’s also two previous festival films we were quite mixed/negative on, Patti Cake$ and Bushwick. Check out the full line-up below.

The 49th annual edition of the Cannes Film Festival’s lauded Directors’ Fortnight section announced its picks this morning. The section is a non-competitive sidebar, but members of the Société des Réalisateurs Français, which organizes the event, do dole out honors.
Directors’ Fortnight artistic director Edouard Waintrop announced the titles in a roughly 40 minute presentation Thursday. The section opens with the latest film from Claire Denis, “Un Beau Soleil Interieur,” an adaptation of Roland Barthes’ “A Lover’s Discourse: Fragments,” which stars Juliette Binoche and Gerard Depardieu. Major auteurs in the lineup include Bruno Dumont, with his musical “Jeannette: The Childhood of Joan of Arc,” and Bael Ferrara, who will return to Cannes after several years with “Alive In France,” a documentary that follows Ferrara and his band as they tour France.
Other notable titles include “The Florida Project,” Sean Baker’s follow-up to “Tangerine,” and “A Ciambra,” from “Mediterranea” director Jonas Carpignano.

Screen’s network of correspondents and contributors around the world have been putting out feelers to get a sense of what might or might not make it to the Palais du Cinéma or one of the parallel sections.
Just like the Oscars, this year’s festival is likely to unfold amid a politically-charged atmosphere. Beyond Trump and the rise of populism across the globe, France will be digesting the result of its own presidential election on May 7.
