Revisiting The Driller Killer

Laine and Abel: An Interview with the Driller Killer (2016)

*** 1/2 (out of 4)

Highly entertaining interview with director Abel Ferrara who discusses his film THE DRILLER KILLER and various other topics. The director starts off talking about how he stayed in school to stay out of Vietnam and then he gets into his first film, a hardcore one, and then we move onto THE DRILLER KILLER. In the typical, wild Ferrara fashion, he then goes through various stories about the production including why he doesn't like following screenplays and he talks about what he was trying to do with the film. This is certainly a highly informative interview with the director who talks all over the place but fans of his know how he is and they'll love the piece even more. There are some great topics discussed including some dealing with the influences on the picture as well as him seeing THE Texas CHAIN SAW MASSACRE and thinking he could do something like that.
