A pretty good conclusion.
Sleepin_Dragon22 March 2018
The opening episode was excellent, loaded with threat and menace, hugely intriguing. The conclusion wasn't quite the standard of the first part, but still very enjoyable. The acting was superb, the production, filming etc was fantastic also, perhaps the delivery from book to screen didn't translate as well as it perhaps could have. For me the whole episode was held up and pushed by the performance of Neil Maskell, I am always blown away by the talent he possesses, not sure he's always given adequate recognition, a superb actor.

The story was interesting, the delivery perhaps a little clumsy.

Watchable. 8/10

Better than the previous episodes

Warning: Spoilers
Episode 1 keeps you intrigued and asking for more, the characters (and actors) are pretty solid as usual and the plot is interesting. Episode 2 has a cool reveal than makes this duo in my opinion a good deal better than the original episodes, which were good but fairly standard. All in all, the rating should be higher, a nice addition to the series.

Missed Opportunities

Warning: Spoilers
When I read the IMBd reviews I'm always amazed at the divergence of opinions. I have not read the books so I'm only judging the screen presentation.

One way Season 2 is distinctly different from Season 1 is: Robin has become a heck of a LOT dumber. 1) She wanders about at night with NO backup KNOWING a killer is on the loose AND right after she was nearly killed the previous day. 2) She conducts investigations without consulting with Strike. 3) She marries a dweeb, which can only produce problems in the future.

Most of the drama was unnecessary and caused by the sheer stupidity of the characters (mainly Robin).

The ending was a missed opportunity. We find out that the killer was using disguises. But there was no intense mystification regarding the overlap of suspects. Finding out the killer used a multiplicity of identities is meaningless unless we first see Strike and Robin being confounded and confused as a result of the false identities. Without that, there was no "Aha" moment, just a bland revelation of relatively meaningless facts.

This series was more interesting when Robin had brains.

Career of Evil: Part 1 & 2
Prismark105 March 2018
Someone is after Cormoran Strike on a personal level. He has been sent a severed leg in the post. He is framed for the murder of a teenage girl, Kelsey Platt. The police and press are chasing him. Strike knows he is being framed but he and Robin need to figure out who.

The shortlist maybe related to his past in the army. Strike had a run in with a major who might had been abusing his daughter, then there was a squaddie who was abusing his wife. On a personal level there is an over the hill rock star that Strike blames for the death of his mother, who used to be a rock groupie.

The reveal might had been a bit disappointing relying on some disguises and low lit photography to fool the audience. However it is clear that Strike and Robin make a good team, the stories do feel rather slow going and Robin's fiance is too much of a weed.

Good casting, bad ending....

Warning: Spoilers
As someone who read the books I looked forward to this... Until now they did fine job but this episode, especially the attack on Robin was really annoying... She is better fighter than than and she used other kind of rape alarm that sprayed him in the eyes with red dye...That part was pretty much crucial in books...

Other than that, pretty solid...

Disappointing
markfranh29 April 2018
I'd been looking forward to these 2018 episodes tremendously after enjoying the first series back in 2017. All I can say is 'disappointing'.

It seemed to lose its way entirely compared to the earlier efforts and the plot sometimes seemed a bit like a Death in Paradise formula: a murder with 3 possible suspects and we run around investigating the 3 suspects until all his revealed in the final few minutes. None of it was particularly convincing and the ending just a cliche.

A sad way to end what had previously been a great series.
