The bizarre world within a video game that a designer and her team created soon becomes the reality in which they live. Trapped in a toxic building, the team must escape what is now a battleground and the sick frazzled minds within it.
Everyone begins to test the boundaries of their psychoses, while the building around them possesses a malevolent force of its own. The team's quest brings them face to face with former friends, now enemies, as death draws perilously close.
Eddie and Denny engineer another classic game-play staple: A race-against time to save a life hanging in the balance. Jaz determines they will pass that test, win that race, save that life. An unlikely source thinks otherwise.
Eddie snatches the most vulnerable player from the group. All but Jaz believes he is dead. It is worse. Our heroes' frantic search leads them to the building's other levels where they find people with new theories as to the Pulses' origin.
Jaz manages to hone her evolving skills of perception to locate the missing player. The team then descends into the lowest levels of the building where they discover their greatest threat yet, compelling former adversaries to join forces.
Jaz slips into a personal state of hell, one mirrored by the vile energy of the building. Eddie seizes the opportunity to finish his tutorial. Soon, the true villain is exposed. With the exit finally in sight, the game is far from over.
