- Mary (Adelaide Kane), in order to protect Elizabeth (Rachel Skarsten), unknowingly puts Gideon's (Ben Geurens) life in danger. To save him, Mary turns to another Englishman for help - Robert Dudley (Charlie Carrick). Meanwhile, Bash (Torrance Coombs) is determined to track down the men behind the threats to Catherine (Megan Follows). Anna Popplewell, Craig Parker, Rose Williams, Celina Sinden and Jonathan Keltz also star.
- Robert Dudley arrives in France and Mary accepts to marry him and become English heir. Gideon helps discover that Rome only plans to put Mary on the English throne shortly, then replace her with an exiled distant Catholic cousin, Joseph Tudor. Gideon kidnaps Joseph but is arrested by archbishop Ridolfi before he can expose the plot, but from his dungeon convinces Dudley to bring the proof he hid and warn Elizabeth. Robert returns to England with Joseph and is rehabilitated as a hero in privy council. Elizabeth executes Joseph and refuses any successor, Mary's engagement is canceled. Mary arranges for Gideon to return to England to save him from the Vatican's retribution as scapegoat, so the lovers must part. Bash and Christophe investigate the Red Knights, finding and capturing a member who dies under torture by sadist Christophe in front of Catherine after claiming the movement is huge, undaunted and determined to destroy the house of Valois, and were behind the attempt to frame her for poisoning Francis. Catherine reconciles with 'fellow Machiavellian patriot' Narcisse, who is appointed chancellor to help preparation to defend the monarchy. Greer is prepared to pay off a blackmailer but Leith and Claude find out Greer's sister Ellen and her husband Lord Thomas faked it to buy a Swiss castle, unwilling to raise her pirate bastard under constant meddling. Claude offers to help Leith to earn financial 'worthiness' by using her royal contacts to launch him as businessman, and he accepts while making love, now all the way.—KGF Vissers
